Chapter 1287 - 702: Scum

Chapter 1287 - 702: Scum

The information wasn't too much; Jimmy only took a few minutes to flip through it and almost remembered everything. He closed the folder and looked at Hope: "What did Peter say?"

Hope: "He just asked me to give you the materials, and you're responsible for the investigation process."

Jimmy nodded, "OK, then let's get started."

Jimmy hadn't thought too much about Peter wanting to handle things this way. Being seconded here to handle the case, the cases arranged by Peter naturally count as part of the work, and a normal investigation would suffice.

The DC office is probably quite upset now. What started as an interstate human trafficking and illegal confinement case—we simply arranged for two agents to investigate—resulted in both agents disappearing. Their office hadn't found any issues before headquarters took over the case directly, sending agents from the New York office to handle it. For them, that's definitely embarrassing.

But this has nothing to do with Jimmy; even if they want to cause trouble, they'd go after headquarters, not him.

Hope drove, and the two of them arrived outside Mark's home. Jimmy just glanced at the house and frowned, thinking: Are the police and agents here in Washington, D.C., just sitting around doing nothing?

Jimmy didn't get out of the car. Hope had unbuckled his seatbelt and was about to open the door, but not hearing Jimmy's car door open, he turned to look. Jimmy frowned and thought for a moment, "Hope, wait here."

Saying this, he got out of the car, walked to the roadside, lit a cigarette, and took out his phone to call Peter: "Peter, help me apply for an arrest warrant for Mark Walsh."

Peter was surprised. You just got the materials, and you're already applying for an arrest warrant? He glanced outside his office, walked to the door, and shut it: "What's the issue with him? What's the reason?"

Jimmy: "For a reason, treat it as a disappearance case. He's suspected of assisting his cousin Frank; the place where Becker and they disappeared isn't far from where he lives, so I guess that's a bit of a reason."

Peter: "That's not enough of a reason."

Jimmy: "I can't think of a reason right now. You handle it."

Peter was silent. Jimmy's move caught him off guard. For the FBI, getting an arrest warrant isn't too difficult since they're at headquarters. The key is the reason. This is Washington, D.C., where the Judicial Department is located. If we obtain an arrest warrant without sufficient reason and someone catches us on it later, it could be very troublesome.

Peter: "Is it necessary?"

Jimmy: "It's the easiest way. Arrest him, and we can search his residence."

Looks like Jimmy has some lead, just can't say for now. Peter: "I'll figure it out." Then he hung up the phone.

After putting away his phone and finishing his cigarette, Jimmy tossed the butt and got back into the car, "Hope, help me get a cup of coffee. I'll keep watch here. Head back and get an arrest warrant from Peter."

He took out his wallet and handed Hope a piece of paper money. Hope waved it off, "Alright, I'll head back first. Do you need any support?"

Jimmy thought for a moment, "Call the forensics team. After we've arrested Mark Walsh, we might need to search his property."

Hope: "Alright."

Jimmy got out of the car as Hope started the car and turned it around. Hope drove a distance to get coffee and a sandwich for Jimmy, then returned to the office.

Peter was quick. After hanging up Jimmy's call, he only thought for a moment before picking up his desk phone and making a call. Soon, he left the office, and by the time Hope returned, the arrest warrant was ready on Peter's desk.

Hope: "Jimmy needs a squad to search Mark's residence."

Peter: "Get a couple of people over there, and..." Peter paused, "Keep an eye on Jimmy."

Hope looked at Peter in surprise. He didn't understand what Peter meant by his last statement.

Peter: "Jimmy uses heavy-handed tactics. Keep an eye on him. If any action targets innocent people, stop him."

Hope nodded, took the arrest warrant from the desk, and left Peter's office.

Having an arrest warrant made things much simpler. Jimmy and Hope led the way, with the forensics team following behind. They arrived at Mark's doorstep and knocked hard, "FBI, open the door, we have an arrest warrant!"

Jimmy saw the person inside, who had been sitting on the couch, stand up and run back upon hearing FBI. "Hope, the back door, he's trying to run."

Hope immediately moved around to the side and ran towards the back of the house. Jimmy, meanwhile, took a step back and kicked the door open, "Mark Walsh, stop, or I'll shoot."

The warning was useless; Mark started running even faster. He opened the back door and dashed out with a burst of speed. Jimmy chased after him. Given Jimmy's physical fitness, there was no way Mark could escape. After running just a short distance, Jimmy tackled him from behind.

"Mark Walsh, you're under arrest; we have an arrest warrant."

Jimmy pressed Mark down, twisting his right arm behind his back. Hope, who had come around from the side, finally caught up. It wasn't that Hope was too slow, but rather that Jimmy was too fast.

Once Mark was handcuffed and checked to make sure he wasn't armed, Hope pulled him up and took him back to the car, seating him in the back.

Jimmy signaled to the forensic personnel behind them: "Inspect it."

He approached the door but didn't head to the car to conduct a preliminary interrogation of Mark because he knew that news would soon arrive.

"Oh my God, Agent Yang, come quick."

The forensics team had just taken a quick look at each room and already found something wrong. Jimmy sighed, turned around, and entered the house. Next to the kitchen, in a storage room, there was a door leading to the basement. Inside was a girl with an iron chain and collar around her neck, huddled in the corner.

Her hair was messy, and her clothes were just simply draped over her. She was on a ground mat, which clearly showed that this was her living space.

The forensics people didn't advance at the basement entrance, calling Jimmy over before they stepped back. Jimmy slowly walked over, speaking softly as he went: "Don't be nervous, we're the FBI. I'm FBI Senior Agent Jimmy Yang. Child, you're safe now."

As Jimmy approached, the girl screamed, but hearing him say he was with the FBI, she slowly stopped. Jimmy lifted the hem of his jacket, revealing the FBI badge on his belt, "Don't worry, we're here to rescue you. It's all over now, you're safe."

Slowly, Jimmy approached the girl and reached out to brush the hair away from her face, "Relax, I'll get you out of this. Hey, come over here, see how to open this lock. Also, get Hope in here."

The two forensic team members exchanged looks before one left and the other came over and knelt beside Jimmy, studying the lock fixing the chain to the iron band carefully.

"This lock shouldn't be hard to open. But since we've apprehended him, we should be able to find the key. There's no need for us to break the lock."

Jimmy nodded, "Go find the key. Child, just wait a moment longer—we'll have this lock open for you soon."

Jimmy didn't leave. The girl wasn't completely at ease; she still clung tightly to the back wall, not resisting, just watching Jimmy and them closely.

Hope soon arrived in the basement. The scene shocked him—both at the sight of a girl locked in the basement and at how Jimmy had known they had to apprehend Mark Walsh.

Hope: "Yang, what do you need me to do?"

Jimmy: "Call an ambulance; she needs a full check-up."

Hope: "Alright."

As Hope turned to leave, he glanced back once. To him, Jimmy seemed more mysterious than ever.

This time, things had blown up big-time. When Hope called in to notify him, Peter was stunned. Previously, he had been contemplating why Jimmy needed an arrest warrant—after all, getting the warrant wasn't all smooth sailing.

Now, with this happening, previous loopholes related to obtaining the warrant had lost significance. Facing someone like Mark Walsh, no one's going to nitpick anymore.
