Chapter 1285 701: Case Closed? Not Necessarily

Chapter 1285 701: Case Closed? Not Necessarily

Yesterday, their operation made a big stir. For a crime-ridden city like Baltimore, it was considered a large-scale operation, naturally attracting media attention. While there wasn't much in the newspapers, the television in the coffee shop was broadcasting some confirmed information, though there hadn't been any more updates, just a brief news report.

In just the ten minutes they sat there, three police cars with sirens blaring and lights flashing had already passed by outside. Although their operation yesterday was significant, it didn't really have much impact on the people of Baltimore. After all, there are many such incidents around them daily; as long as there are no large-scale casualties, it's essentially not a big deal.

Jimmy watched the pedestrians outside, sighing with emotion. It's not as good as New York here; maybe New York has more frequent crackdowns, and more police, so support is usually at short distances, without so many police cars coming from far away, thus not disturbing as many citizens.

In the afternoon, Jimmy received a call from Morrison: "Yang, we have new information. Come back quickly. Good news."

Jimmy: "OK, give me ten minutes."

Jimmy immediately called Hope to head to the FBI office. Since Morrison said it was good news, it must be related to them. Perhaps they could trace Frank's previous activity path.

When they arrived at Morrison's office, Morrison was pleased to hand Jimmy a piece of paper, "Take a look, it's very good news."

Jimmy glanced at it; it was a fingerprint match report. After looking at the content, he looked up at Morrison, "Is Kevin still alive?"

Morrison: "He's alive, just got hit by two bullets, but he was saved. He's still in the hospital now."

Previously, Jimmy had provided a dismantled anonymous phone to the Baltimore office, which had several fingerprints detected on it. Some of them didn't have matching results before. Although it couldn't match any information, the lab recorded these fingerprints.

They captured quite a few people this time, and their identities need verification. One person's fingerprints matched those recorded in the lab, which was what Morrison considered good news. It meant that this person had previously come over with Frank from Washington, D.C.

Jimmy and Hope immediately rushed to the hospital, found this Kevin, took a photo, and sent it to Peter, asking him to check with the previously captured Bob. Peter was efficient, and within half an hour, he confirmed with Bob that this was the second person.

What a damn surprise!

Jimmy shook his head with a smile at Kevin on the hospital bed: "Kevin, oh Kevin, I really didn't expect to find you like this. So tell me, where are the two people you took from Washington, D.C.?"

Kevin's expression changed, but he still refused to talk: "I don't know what you're talking about. I won't answer any questions until my lawyer arrives."

An old hand indeed, but this time it's not going to work.

Jimmy said with a smile, "Then you'd better get ready to contact your lawyer in Washington, D.C. Hope, contact Agent Morrison. We need to take this Kevin back to FBI headquarters and arrange for transport personnel to accompany us."

Kevin asked, with a hint of panic and tension: "What are you planning to do? Why are you taking me to Washington?"

Jimmy: "You and Frank took two people from Washington, D.C., who were FBI agents. Unfortunately, we have already found your contact in Washington, D.C., with both eyewitnesses and physical evidence. Rest assured, the transport personnel will bring an arrest warrant to show your lawyer when they arrive. You... are ours now."

After speaking with a smile, Jimmy turned and left the hospital room. Hope looked back at Kevin with a shake of his head. When someone is unlucky, they are truly unlucky. A single fingerprint match turned what might have been a simple firearms case with a few years in prison into a potential life sentence for assaulting a federal law enforcement officer.

Kevin looked at Hope shaking his head and then turning to leave, finally unable to withstand it, "Wait."

Hope turned back to look at Kevin at the door, "Do you have something to say?"

Kevin hesitated, trembling with his lips, but in the end, he didn't surrender directly, "I want to see a lawyer."

Hope: "That's your right. Of course, you can see a lawyer, but..."

Hope shook his head, turned, and left, closing the hospital room door behind him. He instructed the agents guarding outside and then went aside to make a phone call.

Peter was also shocked when he received the news. The previous information had nearly led everyone to give up, preparing to wrap up the case when Jimmy and the others returned. Now, this huge surprise has reignited hope for the case to continue being pursued.

Washington, D.C. isn't far from Baltimore, but Peter still dispatched a prison van and three agents to rush over, showing how seriously they were taking Kevin.

When they reached the Baltimore office and prepared for the handover procedures, they learned that because the suspect was shot, he was still under observation in the hospital, and they had to wait until the next day for discharge procedures, necessitating one more night's stay there.

The next day, the doctor examined Kevin again, signed off for his discharge, and then Kevin seamlessly transferred from the hospital bed directly onto the prison van. Such a significant detail just to transfer Kevin, he wasn't stupid, and of course, he knew this meant the FBI was now focused on him. With Frank dead, he became their ultimate target.

Jimmy was following alongside, able to see Kevin's body trembling. It seemed he couldn't withstand much longer; probably, they could pry open his mouth soon after returning. He wouldn't have much more of a chance.

As expected, Kevin couldn't withstand the pressure. As soon as he entered the FBI building and was sent to the interrogation room, he broke down. Peter and his team personally interrogated him and quickly obtained a confession. They only offered two conditions: one was not to send Kevin to prison before his wound healed, arranging for care in a hospital to ensure his safety; the other was to provide a plea bargain before the prosecutor due to his voluntary confession.

Peter immediately organized a team to proceed to Baltimore. According to Kevin's confession, the bodies of the two agents had been sunk into the sea, though not very far from the shore. With a generally accurate location, finding them shouldn't be difficult.

They soon reconstructed the events. The D.C. office's Alex Becker and Benjamin Walker indeed had an appointment with them. According to Kevin's account, Frank Walsh already knew Alex Becker. Initially, he was just there to deliver goods to D.C. and temporarily accompanied Frank to see the two.

When they met, it's unclear what Becker and Frank discussed, but they had a dispute. When Frank drew his gun to threaten Becker, Walker, next to him, also drew his gun to aim at Frank.

Frank shot and wounded Walker, then they tied the two up, put them in a truck, and later had Bob arrange a car for them to leave.

After Bob left, they switched cars twice, killed Becker and Walker along the way, and then contacted an acquaintance's speedboat to tie their bodies to stones and toss them into the sea.

The sequence of events had been confirmed. Although it wasn't clear what relationship Alex Becker had with Frank Walsh, both were dead, making further pursuit unnecessary. Previously Peter had arranged a team to investigate Alex Becker and Benjamin Walker, but they could now call that off. The dead bear no debts. Even if they'd made mistakes before, now there's nothing left.

Jimmy and his team finally breathed a sigh of relief. After several days of intense investigation, they finally concluded the case.

However, Jimmy still had some doubts. Why did Becker and the others contact Frank while investigating that kidnapping and detention case?

Jimmy went to Peter's office, and with his permission, used his computer to check the family background and other records of people involved in the case, finally discovering a possible trace of a clue.

Frank had a cousin, Mark, a previously registered sex offender charged with engaging in sexual acts with a minor and imprisoned. He currently resided in Washington, D.C.

Jimmy tapped the table, stood up, and made way, "Peter, come take a look."

Peter reviewed the data, looking up at Jimmy, "What do you think the chances are?"

Jimmy: "When Agent Becker was handling the case, he contacted Frank directly. Considering their acquaintance, it's possible he also knew this Mark, so... I think the possibility is high."

Peter nodded, "I'll arrange for someone to investigate."
