Chapter 1265 - 693: Investigation Begins

Chapter 1265 - 693: Investigation Begins

Peter didn't explain everything to Jimmy, even though they've known each other for a long time, they haven't really worked together much in recent years. He just knew Jimmy's personality well enough to understand that as long as he could give a reasonable explanation, it would be sufficient for Jimmy.

One bottle of beer was quickly finished during their chat, Jimmy had more or less understood the situation Peter was facing. Since he was already here, he might as well help Peter out, no matter how the case was handled, they couldn't afford to be embarrassed. You know, Peter was transferred from Manhattan to headquarters, and the assistant he recruited was also from the Manhattan office. If the two of them couldn't handle things, it would be a big embarrassment.

After finishing their drinks and conversation, Jimmy got up to say goodbye, and Peter escorted Jimmy to the living room when suddenly the doorbell rang. Peter opened the door and glanced, saying: "Anderson."

The person outside the door was unknown to Jimmy. The other person saw Jimmy beside Peter and asked in surprise: "Hey, Peter, are you going out?"

Peter: "No, I'm just seeing him off. Come in."

Peter invited Anderson inside, he first saw Jimmy off, then returned to the house.

Jimmy had come with Peter driving, and now he could only take a taxi back. Since Peter had guests, he didn't hold them up, called the taxi company once outside, and a cab arrived at the corner after a cigarette's time, taking him back to the hotel.

Peter returned inside, greeted Elizabeth, and took Anderson to the backyard. Coming over at this time must mean there are things to discuss, and the living room would be inconvenient.

Peter picked up a beer from the side: "Beer?"

Anderson smiled and accepted: "That person earlier was Jimmy?"

Peter opened a beer too, took a sip, and nodded: "Yes, I specifically invited him to assist in our investigation."

Anderson: "Why?"

Peter: "He's the most suitable person."

Anderson: "I mean, why not use someone from the DC office?"

Peter: "They're not capable, you must have seen Jimmy's profile, right? He's the best choice. From every angle, he's suitable."

Anderson: "But he might turn this place into a battleground, this is DC."

Peter: "We've lost two people, Anderson, this is not the time to consider this."

Anderson nodded: "As long as you understand, there might be some trouble later, you need to be prepared."

Peter: "Yeah, don't worry, I know."

The two chatted a bit more, and Peter got up to see Anderson out. The ripple effect of Jimmy's arrival had already started, Anderson was one of Peter's friends here, they spoke quite clearly to each other, and Anderson was clearly aware of some things. It seems the storm later will be quite serious.

Peter had actually considered these situations previously, Jimmy was very well-known at headquarters, especially for the embarrassment to DHS last time, senior management even teamed up with others to launch an attack on DHS due to this incident, initiated by Jimmy's brilliant performance during their joint operation which left DHS losing face.

Having someone like that drafted to headquarters, although others wouldn't say anything openly, they would definitely pay a lot of attention to this. This was one of the reasons Peter asked Jimmy to come over.

Peter wasn't a complete self-interested animal, Jimmy coming over to help with this case, aside from him gaining a lot, Jimmy would also reap significant benefits.

Jimmy's personality made him very popular with the old-fashioned folks, and though he was always in the Manhattan office previously, handling many cases and doing so brilliantly, people at headquarters, only seeing data, didn't really get a deep impression. Now, he had the chance to leave a special impression with these people, which would be very beneficial for cross-agency deployment and promotions in the future.

The key is, promotions at the FBI require adjustments across multiple departments and positions, gaining various business experiences and cross-department management skills. Jimmy being so young, with so many achievements, moving upward is inevitable.

Peter's plans, Jimmy was obviously unaware of them. He mainly came to DC due to official secondment, with headquarters contacting the Manhattan office specifically requesting him to assist, and as Peter was a familiar face, he came along. Besides, he had been idling quite seriously recently, so he came and avoided others murmuring behind his back.

Back at the hotel, he chatted on the phone with Nia, then washed up and prepared to rest. Peter had outlined the arrangements earlier, Peter himself wouldn't act together, but arranged for an agent to accompany Jimmy to help familiarize with the surroundings and tap into headquarters' resources.

It was a whole new place, especially in Washington, D.C., quite sensitive. Without someone supporting him from behind, Jimmy wouldn't dare act too excessively. If everything followed normal investigative procedures, DC office personnel wouldn't miss too many clues. It's not easy to find gaps in results from those agents' investigations.

So before sleeping that night, Jimmy had already locked onto his investigation direction, focusing on two specific groups.

The next morning, Jimmy arrived again at FBI headquarters. Peter tossed him a set of keys, told him a car's license plate number, while a nearby agent walked over to Jimmy, extending his right hand: "David Hope, Senior Agent, nice to meet you."

Jimmy also extended his hand for a handshake: "Jimmy Yang, from the Manhattan office."
