Chapter 1257 - 689: Wrapping Up
Chapter 1257 - 689: Wrapping Up
After purifying the lake surface, Jimmy waved at Nia and others, and only when he saw them coming did he start searching for shell casings on the ground. He used quite a few bullets this time, and the empty shells were directly dumped from the magazine onto the ground. If he didn't pick them up, people coming here later might call the police, wondering why there were dozens of shells at such a creepy place. Something serious must have happened here.
The priests also began packing up their things, including recovering or destroying traces from the makeshift altar. Supernatural events and church exorcisms are not things that can be widely publicized, as today's society wouldn't accept such situations because they might shake certain foundations.
Nia and the others came over, and Jimmy couldn't help but laugh when he saw the binoculars in Nia and Sergeant Porter's hands. Previously, because it was night and they didn't know they'd be staying behind the whole time, they were underprepared. This time, Sergeant Porter must have thought ahead and brought two binoculars, as Jimmy was sure Nia didn't leave the house with binoculars in the morning.
"How did you do it, Detective Yang?" Sergeant Porter was the first to speak. Even though he only saw part of it through the binoculars, he was amazed at Jimmy's quick shooting and reloading because he was the only one firing, yet the gunshots were continuous, even more excessive than last night.
Jimmy shrugged: "It's just reloading and shooting, not that hard. Just practice more, and you'll get it."
Sergeant Porter was speechless. Can someone really practice to that level?
He truly regretted not bringing a camera because the priest had warned him that supernatural events couldn't be made public, so he didn't think about recording it. He just wanted to witness it himself as a great story to tell later. But now, seeing Jimmy's skills, he felt he should have recorded it even if it meant getting a warning or a reprimand from his superiors. This shooting skill was beyond his imagination.
Nia knew Jimmy didn't like to be in the spotlight, so she quickly changed the topic: "Is everything taken care of? Is there any danger left?"
Jimmy: "Don't worry, it's purified. It's safe now. We'll find a chance to clean the lake bottom later. These priests will arrange it."
Nia didn't ask further but stood by watching the priests pack their things while also observing some stones on the ground. Although part of them was damaged, the smooth carvings and traces of Holy Oil and Holy Salt were still visible, which were uncommon.
They returned to the church, where Father Rodney and the others talked with the church's management, explained the follow-up, and then left Newport directly, preparing to return to New York.
The incident was perfectly resolved, which was a relief for Jimmy, and Nia and the other two barely survived, exhausted by the ordeal. After Jimmy checked with them, they decided to return to New York together. They had been out for almost a month, and their investigation into the disappearance case had just concluded.
As for Sergeant Porter, he seemed a bit off since the return journey, looking somewhat dispirited. Jimmy accompanied them to the police station, helped pack the belongings of the three students, which the police station would send via logistics to the NYPD detective department. Then, Nia and the others said goodbye, as their case investigation had ended.
Sergeant Porter escorted Jimmy and the others out of the police station, and at the door, he pleaded with Jimmy for tips on how he mastered such skills. Jimmy didn't hold back and demonstrated how he reloaded in front of him, though he ran out of bullets and could only simulate it with his hands.
Leaving the police station, Jimmy first went to a gun shop to replenish his bullets a bit, then took Nia and the others to the airport to buy tickets for their return to New York.
When Jimmy and Nia got home, even before they could rest, Kevin called to invite them to dine at his father-in-law's house, saving them the hassle of picking a restaurant.
Kevin was terribly worried. The case was initially intended to help Nia earn some achievements to strengthen her footing in the next promotion, to prevent gossip that might affect future operations. They had just finished investigating several cases when they stumbled upon this bizarre incident. All three detectives fell into a coma, and if Jimmy hadn't arrived in time and arranged for the church to help wake them up, who knows what could have happened afterward.
Jimmy had called Kevin the night he arrived in Newport to explain the situation at the time, but no matter how detailed, a phone call didn't compare to an in-person conversation. So, knowing their return schedule, Kevin didn't give Jimmy and Nia much time to rest, calling them over to understand the situation first.
Kevin was aware of supernatural cases, but he had never experienced one himself; in fact, most people haven't. As one of the highest-ranking officials in the police department, he's entitled to know about them.
The situation Nia encountered, if Kevin were to go to Newport City upon learning about it, he would likely be at a loss too, only able to rely on hospitals and doctors because he wouldn't immediately consider a supernatural aspect.
Jimmy had really dealt with such cases. Upon hearing from Sergeant Porter about their investigation at Ghost Lake and their subsequent coma, with doctors unable to find any issues, he immediately thought of a supernatural case and contacted people from the church he knew to help, which was more timely than most people would react.
