Chapter 1249 - 685: The Operation Begins

Father Rodney's actions startled Jimmy and the others. In fact, when Jimmy picked them up and used Heart Eye Vision, he discovered unusual energy fluctuations around the two items, as if they were surrounded by a layer of energy. He didn't feel any danger, so he called Father Rodney over while holding them.

Unexpectedly, as soon as Father Rodney held them, he shouted out and placed the two small bags on the table, as if they were extremely dangerous. This was completely different from what Jimmy had thought.

Jimmy: "What's wrong? Is there a problem?"

Father Rodney stared at the necklace and ring, "These two pieces of jewelry have a problem. They possess very strong Resentful Spirit power."

Jimmy frowned, "Does it affect people? I didn't feel anything when I held them earlier." He looked at Nia: "Nia, did you feel anything when you took these pieces of jewelry?"

Nia shook her head: "No, we found them by the lake and put them into evidence bags after. No one else should have touched them."

Father Rodney: "It may not affect people immediately, but over time it's uncertain, and the energy on them seems very abundant. It's unlikely they have been separated from Resentful Spirits for long. Bennett, did you find anything else by the lake?"

Father Bennett was nearby; he spoke up: "We were attacked once by Resentful Spirits in the lake, but they retreated once without attacking again. We didn't find anything else by the lake."

Father Rodney: "Do you know what's in there?"

Father Bennett: "It's still uncertain for now. The police told us there were three deaths reported decades ago, a couple and the wife's friend."

Rodney: "Such strong energy, just these three people shouldn't be like this. There must be something we don't know. Jimmy, why are you here? Are you investigating that so-called Ghost Lake?"

Jimmy looked at Nia, and Nia said: "We are here to investigate the case of three missing university students. According to the hotel staff, they were likely investigating the legend of Ghost Lake. We also found their personal belongings and tent, so they probably disappeared by the lake."

Rodney: "That place is very dangerous. I think you might have to stop your investigation."

Nia: "We have already gathered many clues pointing there. Can't you resolve the issues there?"

Rodney shook his head and didn't speak. Jimmy reached out to interrupt Nia, then looked at Sergeant Porter standing by, and softly said to Nia: "The Resentful Spirits there seem very powerful, and being in the lake, it might be difficult to eliminate them."

Nia: "But we are already very close to confirming the deaths of the three people. At least we should get some definite information..."

Father Rodney turned and walked to the altar, tightly clasped his hands, and began to pray. Nia paused as well, reached out and held Jimmy's hand, and said, "Sorry, I got a bit emotional just now."

Jimmy patted her hand and also looked at Father Rodney. When it came to known Resentful Spirits, he didn't know whether the church would usually leave them be, eliminate, or seal them. In the past, Jimmy had seen Father Rodney and others expel or eradicate Evil Spirits, but only after combat had already begun. He didn't know much about the initial investigation and preparation, and no one could be sure what their decision would be.

Father Rodney's prayer didn't last long. After finishing, he turned to look at Jimmy and Nia, "Let's go to the scene tomorrow, but today everyone should rest a bit."

Jimmy: "Alright, thank you, Father Rodney."

It was clear that Father Rodney didn't really want to do this. His agreement to check it out tomorrow might be more for Jimmy's sake. As for Jimmy's previous assumption that the church would choose to eliminate or seal known Resentful Spirits, it appeared he overestimated. The church also prefers less entanglement if possible.

Nia and the two detectives returned to the hospital. Although they had woken up, a complete examination was still necessary to see if there were any other issues, while Jimmy found a nearby hotel and booked a room, then inquired at the hotel reception. He also visited a gun shop nearby and bought three boxes of .44 Magnum Bullets as backup.

This time, he went out to find Roland rather than handle a case, so he only carried his usual weapons and ammunition, not his bullet pouch. For convenience, he also bought four Moon Clips, and once back at the hotel, he unpacked a box of bullets, filled the Moon Clips, and replenished the spare bullet slots on his holster, finally preparing himself for battle.

Generally, Jimmy wouldn't use many bullets in one fight, but yesterday's water-ball left a lasting impression. That water-ball wasn't the core of the Resentful Spirit but one of its attack strategies. Shooting at the water-ball as before would consume a lot of his bullets.

The next morning, Jimmy, Nia, and the others returned to St. Mary's Church. Father Rodney and Father Bennett were already praying inside the church. Jimmy did not disturb them but sat on a bench waiting.

Soon their prayers finished, and Father Rodney, along with a few other priests, packed several boxes before heading out with Jimmy and the others to Ghost Lake. Naturally, Sergeant Porter and the two officers from yesterday came along as well.
