Chapter 1247 - 684: Awakening
There was nothing to see ahead, and after waiting for a while, Sergeant Horton was the first to show signs of impatience.
Earlier, the movements of Jimmy and Bennett the Priest startled the three police officers. They thought something must be happening, so they all drew their guns. They waited tensely for a bit but saw nothing, although Jimmy still pulled out two rather peculiar-looking revolvers, so they didn't dare to speak recklessly. They waited until now to start speaking: "Detective Yang, have you found anything?"
Jimmy stared at the lake without turning his head: "I have an unsettling feeling, like someone is watching me."
Sergeant Horton: "We didn't see anything. Do we need to spread out and have a look around?"
Jimmy: "No, you stay back and don't move."
Sergeant Horton frowned at Jimmy. They were police officers, and although Jimmy was an FBI agent and not directly under their command, Jimmy's wife had fallen unconscious while working in their jurisdiction, and under such circumstances, he really didn't know what to do.
Bennett the Priest wasn't paying attention to their conversation. After standing guard for a while, he took a small bottle of Holy Water from his pocket, squatted down, and sprinkled some on the ground. To their surprise, a faint mist rose from the place where the Holy Water touched the ground.
Bennett the Priest stood up, "Jimmy, we need to retreat from here temporarily."
Jimmy: "Have you discovered anything?"
Bennett: "The ground here has been tainted, but I can't pinpoint the exact location right now."
Jimmy: "OK, you retreat first, I'll cover the rear."
Bennett stepped back two paces beside Sergeant Horton: "Let's head back first."
They had just turned and walked a few steps when "Bang, bang, bang!" three shots rang out. The group immediately turned back, guns drawn, aiming at where Jimmy had been standing, but Jimmy was no longer there. He had dodged to the side and fired another shot into the air, "Bang," only then slowly getting up.
Bennett the Priest had been on alert just now, so he saw more than Sergeant Horton and the others. When he turned around, he saw a light blue Spiritual Body lunging towards Jimmy's position, but Jimmy dodged to the side, narrowly avoiding it. That shot Jimmy fired directly dispersed the light blue Spiritual Body, which quickly vanished into the air.
Bennett rushed to Jimmy's side, asking as he ran: "Where did it come from?"
Jimmy: "From the lake, but it emerged from the right side, not directly in front of us."
Bennett: "Show me."
Jimmy walked to the right, with Bennett following. Bennett took out a small pouch from his pocket, grabbed a handful of silver powder, and stood near the spot Jimmy indicated. He gently sprinkled the silver powder into the air. Instead of falling to the ground immediately, the powder spread slowly in the air, as if a breeze were scattering it, quickly covering a small area and settling upon the lake.
Soon, the lake water began to ripple violently, and a sharp screeching sound rang out. Apart from Jimmy and Bennett, Sergeant Horton and the other two policemen clutched one ear in pain, struggling to keep their guns aimed at the lake, knowing that although they weren't sure if the guns would be effective, it was safer than covering their ears with both hands.
Bennett the Priest shouted loudly, calling for the Lord's blessing to banish the evil while holding the Bible aloft and raising the cross towards the lake, while Jimmy had already reloaded the spent casings into his cartridge on the way over and now stood with both hands aiming at the lake.
The Heart Eye Vision couldn't see below the lake's surface, but normal sight was already revealing anomalies. The once-calm lake surface now surged violently, with a small area quickly darkening significantly. Soon, a water mass began to rise from that small section and left the lake surface, rushing towards Bennett.
Without hesitation, Jimmy fired at the water mass. Although it looked solid, through Heart Eye Vision, he could see light points appearing around it. These were his targets.
Alternating shots from both revolvers, he emptied all the bullets into the water mass as quickly as possible, releasing the left hand's 1875, taking out spare six-round bullets from his pocket to reload the right hand revolver, and fired again at the now halved water mass.
This phenomenon of a rising water mass from the lake was a first for Sergeant Horton and his men. Despite the sharp screeching affecting their ears painfully, they also raised their Glocks to fire at the water mass. However, their shots were practically ineffective, and their accuracy was hindered by the interference, with few bullets hitting the target at all.
The water mass, which had been heading towards Bennett the Priest, was reduced by more than half by Jimmy, leaving only a head-sized clump. Bennett, eyebrows furrowed, shifted the grip on his cross, wielding it like a Longsword as Father Horton had in Dallas, thrusting it towards the water mass before immediately stepping aside, allowing the water mass to miss its target.
The water mass did not fall to the ground but looped around after overshooting and rushed back again. Jimmy was well aware of Bennett the Priest's close combat abilities, but he wasn't sure if Bennett had fully recovered after being possessed. While Bennett engaged in close combat with the water mass, Jimmy took out all his spare bullets from the holster, reloaded both his revolvers, and awaited the opportunity to shoot.
