Chapter 1245 - 683: The Story of Ghost Lake

Chapter 1245 - 683: The Story of Ghost Lake

The doctors here have already conducted a comprehensive examination on Nia and the others, but the cause of their unexplained coma remains a mystery, so the most likely possibility is that some supernatural event occurred at the ghost lake that they happened to encounter. This could explain why the doctors are having such a hard time identifying the cause from a scientific standpoint.

There are many ways to deal with supernatural events, but to resolve Nia's current condition, the only option Jimmy can think of is the church.

He held Nia's hand, then reached out to touch her face, stood up, and said to Sergeant Potter, "I need to make a call, just a moment."

After saying that, he left the ward, looked around, and since there wasn't a quiet place, he directly took the elevator downstairs to a nearby vacant lot and dialed Father Rodney's number.

Jimmy: "Father Rodney, I... I need your help."

Rodney: "What's the matter, Jimmy? What's happened?"

Jimmy: "My wife Nia fell into a coma while tackling a case. The doctors have done all the tests, but they can't find the cause of the coma. There are two other detectives like her, and they're in Newport City, Rhode Island. The incident location is at a ghost lake here."

Rodney: "You mean the ghost lake? Are you sure it's caused by a ghost?"

Jimmy: "I don't know. I just arrived at the hospital, and the doctors are out of options except to wait for them to wake up, but I'm worried if it's truly a ghost that's causing it, then we can't just wait."

Rodney: "Let me think... Did you arrive in Rhode Island today?"

Jimmy: "Yes, I got here this morning. They fell into a coma yesterday afternoon, nearly a day now. Rodney, please help me. I'm really out of options."

Rodney: "I'm not sure what happened to them. If it is indeed a ghost... I'll contact someone nearby."

Jimmy: "Thank you, Rodney. Please arrange it as soon as possible. By the way, the ring you gave me earlier, I put it on Nia. She was wearing it when the incident happened."

Rodney: "Are you sure? Is there any damage to the ring?"

Jimmy: "So far, there doesn't seem to be any change."

Rodney: "I understand. I'll arrange for someone to get there quickly. That's it."

After saying that, Rodney hung up the phone, looked up at the cross in front of him with a serious expression, made the sign of the cross with his hand, and then, while searching for a number, walked out of the church.

Jimmy is now their key focus, and a background check will naturally be done on him. From his experiences with Nia over the years and analysis of him, it's clear that Jimmy is not like other American youth. He deeply values family and loved ones.

Now that something like this happened to his wife, it's surely his top priority. Jimmy is also well-versed in supernatural events, and according to his description, there's a fairly high probability that the cause of his wife's coma is indeed a ghost. Furthermore, Rhode Island is traditionally prone to supernatural occurrences, being one of the earliest English colonies, and many tragedies happened there back then. It's just that in recent decades, supernatural events have become very rare, so there's not much attention.

In addition, although Rhode Island is part of the traditional New England region, Protestant presence isn't high, with nearly half of the residents being Catholic, which is rooted in its history.

As Rodney drove, he made phone calls and quickly confirmed the person for the task.

Jimmy returned to the ward. Sergeant Potter stayed with him for a while, then said he needed to go back to the police station to handle some matters and would return soon.

Half an hour later, Jimmy received a call: "Jimmy, this is Father Bennett from the church."

Jimmy: "Father Bennett, long time no see. Have you recovered now?"

Bennett: "Thanks for asking, I'm much better now. Father Rodney has already called me. Where are you now?"

Jimmy: "At the hospital in Newport."

Bennett: "OK, I'll come over quickly. I live in Providence."

Jimmy: "Thank you, Father Bennett."

This was truly unexpected. Jimmy originally thought Father Rodney would fly over directly from New York, and he was prepared to wait until the afternoon or evening for them to arrive. Little did he expect there to be an acquaintance in Rhode Island who could come over quickly.

An hour later, Bennett arrived at the hospital. Jimmy was surprised to see Bennett, saying, "Father Bennett, you seem to have recovered well."

Bennett had previously been possessed, and his body had been almost entirely drained of muscle and fat, nearly turning his face into a skull. Now, he just looked like a somewhat thin middle-aged man, having shed that previous wretched appearance. Wearing a priest's robe, his physique was indiscernible, but his complexion was much better.

Bennett nodded to Jimmy: "Thank you. Let's take a look at them first."

Jimmy: "Alright, please follow me."

Jimmy took Father Bennett to Nia's ward, while the other two were in different rooms, yet all shared the same comatose state.

Bennett approached Nia, lifted her eyelids to observe her eyes, then opened her mouth for a look, finding nothing unusual. He then stood straight, holding a Bible in his left hand, opened it with his right hand, and took out a badge from his pocket that Jimmy hadn't seen before, preparing to pray.
