Chapter 1053 - 594: Part-Time Psychologist
Chapter 1053 - 594: Part-Time Psychologist
Psychologists have a limited number of clients they see each day, especially high-level professionals like Doctor Mary. Her number of clients is not many, but the quality is quite good, so her income is guaranteed. After all, she charges hundreds per hour as a psychological expert; not everyone can afford that.
Jimmy declined Mary's offer to make tea, saying two glasses of water would suffice. He briefly discussed the recent kidnapping case and mentioned the abnormalities Kevin observed in Elliot.
Jimmy: "Mary, do you think it would be effective for me to talk to Elliot?"
Mary: "Of course, you're right in what you said before, he's still a child. Experiencing something like this suddenly, it's normal for him to have psychological issues..."
Jimmy's phone rang, interrupting their conversation. Mary stopped mid-sentence and gestured for him to take the call.
Jimmy glanced at the number and answered, "This is Jimmy... Oh, Mr. Green, good afternoon... No need to be so formal. Okay, I'll be there on time... Goodbye."
Jimmy gestured with his phone, "Alex Green, Elliot's father, has invited me over to their place tonight."
Mary: "Well, back to the topic, I have only two pieces of advice for you. First, sense of security. Try to talk to Elliot and find out when and where he feels the safest. In that environment, his mind won't be as tense and will be relatively easier to communicate with.
Second, listening and understanding. Children's thoughts are often quite different from adults', requiring patience to let him express his feelings, while also understanding his intentions to avoid major discrepancies.
If you do these two things well, let him vent, and his mental state will naturally start to recover slowly. Being overly frightened is not irreversible; it just takes time to adjust emotionally.
Lastly, don't forget to encourage him, tell him he can come to you anytime for help and support. You and his family are his best support system."
Jimmy: "Is that all?"
Mary raised an eyebrow at Jimmy: "Does it seem simple to you?"
Jimmy: "Uh, it indeed doesn't sound very difficult."
Mary chuckled softly: "Then I'll be waiting for your good news."
Jimmy looked at Mary, feeling a bit flustered, "Uh, could you be more detailed about what topics to start with?"
Mary took a sip from her glass and only spoke after a few seconds, "It's up to you."
Oh great, saying something wrong ended up offending the expert. There's no good from that. Being too familiar with Mary, Jimmy spoke a bit too candidly without much thought.
Jimmy was also helpless, Mary practically kicked him out, telling him to get on with his business and not waste her time.
In the evening, Jimmy drove to Alex Green's apartment, rang the doorbell, and Alex himself answered the door, "Good evening, Officer Yang, thank you for coming."
Jimmy shook hands with Alex: "Mr. Green, no need to be so formal."
Sitting on the couch, Jimmy declined the coffee Alex prepared for him, requesting just a glass of ice water. As Alex went to get the water, Jimmy noticed Elliot peering from the doorway of the adjacent room, eyeing Jimmy but clinging to the doorframe, not coming out.
Jimmy stood up and waved at Elliot: "Elliot, are you okay?"
Elliot came out of the room and sat beside Jimmy. Jimmy pulled him onto the long sofa just as Alex returned with a glass, "Officer Yang."
Alex settled into a single chair next to them, watching Elliot sit closely by Jimmy's side, leaning on him. This eased Alex's mind a bit. He had already spoken with a psychologist, understanding Elliot's biggest problem now was a lack of security. Seeing Elliot find a place that made him feel secure, even if it wasn't with his father, at this point, didn't require much fuss.
Jimmy gently talked to Elliot about his school, studies, classmates, and so on. Elliot didn't reject the conversation, although, when replying, he would sneak glances at Jimmy's side.
When Jimmy sat down, he had unbuttoned his suit, and Elliot could just make out the holster with a gun under Jimmy's arm. Jimmy nodded down at it, then looked at Elliot, gently ruffled his hair, "Kid, you're not old enough to handle these things yet."
From Alex's angle, it was out of view, so he quietly asked, "What?"
Jimmy looked at Alex, pulled the jacket aside slightly to reveal, then covered the revolver again.
Elliot: "Uncle Jimmy, is everyone in the FBI like you?"
Jimmy chuckled softly, "Of course, everyone there is a good person."
Elliot pointed to the area under Jimmy's arm where the gun was holstered, "No, I mean, does everyone carry this like you do? Can I see?"
Jimmy: "Yes, everyone carries guns, although you're still too young, you shouldn't be exposed to these yet."
Elliot looked at Alex, who hesitated for a moment, then looked at Jimmy, gesturing reluctantly, "Jimmy, let him have a look, it's alright."
Jimmy looked at Alex, and upon seeing his nod, stood up and took off his suit, revealing his full set of gear.
The Glock holster on his right hip, holding a Glock and a spare magazine, the shoulder holster under his arm, with a revolver on each side. Spare bullets were on the holster, cuffs and a few wide zip ties were secured on his back, and inside his trouser pocket was a folding knife clipped on. Usually hidden by his suit, the full display was still quite impactful.
Jimmy spread his arms, turned around once, "OK?"
Elliot's eyes widened more than before. Jimmy showed them briefly before donning the suit again, better to keep it covered in this setting.
Jimmy: "A quick look is enough, can't let you play with it."
Elliot: "If I became an FBI agent, would I be able to do this too?"
Jimmy: "Of course, although it's too early for you to consider this now, you're still young, several years to go before you can join the FBI."
Jimmy ruffled Elliot's hair, gauging that the kid was probably frightened—kidnapping and a shootout. He seemed quite interested in guns and the FBI, possibly identifying the root cause of his previous lack of security here.
Elliot lowered his head, not speaking. Jimmy stood and nodded at Alex, the two moved to the adjacent study, "Mr. Green... Alex, I think I've figured out his situation. You know, I shot and killed the kidnapper in front of him, which seems to have made him even more inclined to want to use weapons for self-protection. The root of his lack of security should be this."
Alex nodded, he opened the door to glance at Elliot sitting on the sofa, then shut it, nodding in agreement, "I see it now, if that's the case... damn, he's only 10."
Alex extended his fist to hit his left hand, dealing with kids at this age was truly difficult.
Jimmy: "Sorry, you know, I'm not a psychologist. I think you might need to communicate with one to see how to handle things going forward."
Alex: "Thanks, Jimmy. At least he seemed good tonight, could you stay with him a bit longer?"
Jimmy nodded: "Of course."
Jimmy and Alex left the study and returned to sit beside Elliot on the sofa, Alex left the living room to give them space.
Elliot clearly had many questions for Jimmy, from his childhood to the FBI, he seemed curious about everything. Jimmy deliberately chose some amusing stories to entertain him, which worked well, keeping Elliot laughing for quite a while. Only when it was time for Jimmy to leave did Elliot sober up from his laughter.
But that couldn't be helped, as Jimmy couldn't stay forever. He bid farewell to both Alex and Elliot and then returned to his apartment to rest.
