Chapter 35
Luoluo An stared at the official document Luo En had handed over, then shifted his gaze to Luo En himself.
The surrounding Felyns hadn't mobbed Luo En and his group in endless layers—after all, if these folks wanted to bolt, they could just let them go.
"What the heck is this?" Luoluo An asked, flipping the document upside down to peer at it.
"It's the official proof that I'm the lord of this territory," Luo En said, clearly annoyed.
Luoluo An leaned in close to the document and scrutinized it seriously for a full minute before yelling, "Susu An! Get over here quick! I can't read!"
A Felyn girl wearing a flower crown leaped out from the crowd and kicked Luoluo An flying with one foot. "If you can't read, why didn't you let me handle it sooner?"
Susu An picked the document up off the ground. "Sorry about that—Luoluo An's a total dimwit."
Unlike the other Felyns, who came off like a bunch of street toughs, she had a refined air about her.
"You clearly can't read a lick, but you always act like you know what's what," she said, using her stubby little legs to shove Luoluo An aside. "You always have to make everything more complicated."
"Easy with my document there," Luo En said, his heart aching at the sight of the dust on it.
Back when he'd been on the run for his life, Luo En had never let it get so much as a drop of blood or a speck of dirt on it.
And now, in just a few minutes, both sides were caked in grime.
Susu An brushed the dust off. "Normar Empire Duke Lady Mercury... hereby grants twenty thousand mu of land, centered on Windbird Town... to Baron Luo En."
"The Normar Empire?" Luoluo An, sprawled on the ground, rubbed his swelling cheek and asked.
"Luoluo An, you're a hopeless idiot—we're already in the Normar Empire right here," Susu An said. She wasn't about to waste her breath explaining the basics to someone with a head as empty as his.
"But where's Windbird Town?" Susu An flipped the document over and over, still not getting where it meant.
"It's this town," Luo En said, clearing his throat.
"Here? This is Windbird Town? But this is just ruins!" Susu An said, stunned.
She handed the document back to Luo En soon enough, though. She'd read it through and could confirm the guy in front of her was a bona fide baron from the Normar Empire.
Assuming the thing wasn't forged, he really was the lord of this territory.
But!
Even if Luo En was the lord around here, what did that have to do with them?
"We've been living here for ages—this is our turf," Susu An said, waving a hand dismissively. "We don't give a damn if you're a lord or not."
"If you're here to take the place away, we're not agreeing to that," she added. Sure, she was the reasonable one, but there was no way they'd give up their hard-won home just because some random lord popped up out of nowhere.
"These Felyns have a point," Lilian said. At some point, she'd sidled up to stand with the Felyns. "Why on earth would we hand over our turf to some lord who just shows up out of the blue?"
"Miss Lilian, what are you doing?"
"Oh, nothing. I just think these cute little creatures are making total sense."
"You're my maid."
"Yeah, well, Mr. Luo En, you haven't even paid me yet."
"Isn't it supposed to be free?"
"Maids don't work for free. You owe me one gold coin a month in salary, Mr. Luo En."
Question marks multiplied over Luo En's head as he started seriously wondering what the point of coming to this place even was.
Moruna actually found the Felyns pretty adorable too, but she was Lord Luo En's die-hard fan. There was no way she'd switch sides.
If it came down to it, Lord Luo En was way cuter than any of these Felyns.
"This place is ours!" the Felyns chorused.
"Exactly—this place belongs to them," Lilian said, fully backing the Felyns' claim.
Luo En plopped down on a nearby rock, temporarily throwing in the towel on figuring out what his dragon maid was up to.
"I never said this place isn't yours," Luo En said, clasping his hands together and speaking measuredly.
"What? But aren't you here to steal our turf?" Luoluo An's eyes went wide as he gawked at Luo En in disbelief. "Then what are you even here for?"
"I want to know who's your decision-maker," Luo En said with a sigh, turning straight to Susu An.
"Decision-maker?" Susu An blinked, then it clicked. "Oh, you mean who's our boss, right?"
"Our boss is Daddy Susuya!" Susu An declared proudly.
"That's right—our big boss is Daddy Susuya!" the other Felyns chimed in together.
Susu An raised her stubby little arm and hollered, "Hey, someone drag Daddy Susuya out here!"
It wasn't long before a Felyn with a white mustache was shoved into view.
Luo En's expression turned a bit odd at the sight of Daddy Susuya.
Aside from the extra whiskers, he honestly couldn't spot any difference between an old Felyn and a young one.
"Daddy Susuya! These guys are trying to take our turf!" Luoluo An lunged at Daddy Susuya and shouted.
"Quit your yapping," Daddy Susuya said. The moment he appeared, he swung his cane and sent Luoluo An flying. "I already know what's going on."
"You're the new lord of this territory, right?" Daddy Susuya asked, pinching his little mustache.
Luo En was sizing him up, but the feeling was mutual—Daddy Susuya was giving Luo En the once-over too.
"So, new lord, what exactly do you want from us right now?" Daddy Susuya asked bluntly.
Luo En adopted a grave expression. "I just need a place to stay."
Forget all this talk of territories for the moment—he desperately needed somewhere to crash.
"No problem!" Daddy Susuya said without asking for anything in return, agreeing on the spot.
"You agreed just like that?" Luo En hadn't expected the guy to be quite so straightforward.
"Yeah! Daddy! How could you agree so fast!?" Luoluo An yelled from where he lay on the ground.
"This guy's a lord—if he kicks the bucket here, we'll be in deep trouble," Daddy Susuya said, jabbing Luoluo An's belly none too gently with his cane.
"Why would we be in trouble if he dies?" Luoluo An clutched his head.
Daddy Susuya froze mid-motion, falling silent.
Susu An, off to one side, looked pensive, as if she understood why Daddy Susuya had so readily agreed to let Luo En stay.
Right now, the people of the Normar Empire were turning a blind eye to them, but if Luo En wound up dead here, they'd probably just find some flimsy excuse to wipe them all out.
"You wouldn't try to murder me in the middle of the night, would you?" Luo En ventured.
"Mr. Luo En, rest assured—probably not," said Lilian, who was standing with the Felyn Race, uttering words that were hard for Luo En to take at face value.
"We wouldn't pull any sneaky stunts like that," Daddy Susuya said, arching a brow. "Besides, we've got zero interest in all that fighting and killing anyway."
