Chapter 1092 - 1088: Don’t Let Compassion Run Wild
"Yo, another one. Is she your friend?" The man just started to step towards Sophie Smith, but Irene Morton grabbed his wrist."I don’t know her." Her tone was somewhat cold, with a hint of detachment.
"Irene, what exactly do you want to do?" Sophie walked over, directly pushing away the man hugging Irene. The man, who was somewhat drunk, was caught off guard by Sophie’s push and stumbled to the ground.
"Where the hell did you come from? How dare you lay a hand on me?" The man’s rage flared up instantly, and he grabbed Sophie’s wrist forcefully. Despite his drunkenness, his strength was considerable, and Sophie bit her lip, her face turning pale from the pain.
People around had been staring at her for quite a while, but no one seemed to recognize her. Maybe they were drunk and unclear-minded, or perhaps in this remote, noisy, and even outdated chaotic area, it was understandable for them not to be familiar with her.
"Let me go!" Sophie struggled for a while, only to receive even more violence in return. The man raised his hand and slapped her hard across the face.
Sophie’s body was knocked to the side, and seeing the situation escalating, Irene realized things were going wrong.
"Hey, don’t bother with her. I’m really not that familiar with her. Let’s go to my place, just ignore her." Irene anxiously tugged on the man’s sleeve.
"Why not take her with us? With so many of my brothers, are you sure you can handle it alone?" The man laughed maliciously.
Irene’s body went rigid and icy, as she clenched her fists tightly, her body slightly trembling.
"I think it’s better to take her with us." The man signaled with his eyes and ordered several men beside him to grab Sophie.
Sophie wanted to cry out loud, but was abruptly silenced by a man’s rough hand over her mouth. The men dragged them towards the house where Irene lived, not far away.
Irene stood at the door, her hands trembling as she inserted the key. At the moment she turned the key, she seemed to hesitate over something. With so many men standing behind her, if they really went inside together, it would likely be a dead end. Her hand stopped on the doorknob, delaying the door from opening.
"Hurry up, why are you dawdling?" The man’s voice was impatient.
Sophie stood beside her, and Irene curled her lips, but it was a rather helpless smile.
"I told you not to be overly sympathetic. Look what happened now; you might lose your own innocence. When the time comes, Brother Asher definitely won’t let me off." Irene’s voice was small, but Sophie heard her words clearly.
Sophie had to admit, at this moment, her feelings were a mess of panic, like a wall surrounding them, making any chance of escape impossible.
Finally, Irene opened the door, gripping Sophie’s hand tightly. Sophie was somewhat surprised, not knowing what she intended to do. "This time, let’s just say I’m paying for my past mistakes."
Sophie was increasingly confused. What on earth was she talking about?
Before she could react, Irene forcefully pushed her into the room and then shut the door, turning the key in the opposite direction a few times to lock it from the outside.
"What are you doing?" The men grew wary, reaching out to snatch the key from Irene’s hand. Irene raised her hand and threw the key outside.
"Are you messing with me?" The man seemed angered by her actions, his drunkenness clearing, and he reached out, gripping her neck tightly.
