Chapter 1082 - 1078: The Final Test

Chapter 1082 - 1078: The Final Test

Irene hooked her arm through the man’s a little too tightly, losing control for a moment. Her gaze slowly shifted to the side and, sure enough, Asher Land was there too.The waiter was still in front of her trying to persuade her, saying every nice thing he could think of, basically telling them to go to another restaurant.

Asher Land’s expression was indifferent and remote. A cold sneer rose in Irene’s heart as she walked straight around the waiter and headed in their direction.

"Miss, you can’t go over there." The waiter stubbornly blocked her way.

"Those are all my friends over there. Move." Irene swept a cold glance over the person blocking her, speaking with a touch of arrogance.

Hearing they were her friends, the waiter could only back away awkwardly to the side.

"What friends? We don’t know her at all." Eva Miller cleared her throat and spoke to the waiter. Sure enough, after hearing Eva’s words, the waiter was about to go "drive" Irene away again.

"Eva Miller, you—" Irene was completely pissed off by Eva’s attitude. She shoved the waiter in front of her aside and headed straight toward Eva.

Luke Land stood up, placing himself in front of Eva to shield her.

"If you have something to say, say it properly."

"What, you’re taking her side now?"

"Heh." Luke let out a light laugh, the corners of his lips lifting. "She’s my wife now. You expect me to let you bully her?"

Irene really hadn’t followed the news in a long time. When had Luke Land actually married Eva Miller?

A chill of desolation spread through her chest. The four people sitting at the table were all in pairs, looking very happy. And her? For a bit of money, she still had to come out and keep some man company.

Eva was already geared up for an all‑out fight with Irene, but Irene didn’t explode in anger the way she’d imagined. If Eva wasn’t mistaken, there seemed to be a trace of helpless yet bitter smile at the corner of her mouth.

After going through so much by Asher Land’s side, Irene seemed to have figured some things out.

"Brother Asher, I didn’t mean to disturb you guys. It just so happens my boyfriend and I were passing by. Why don’t you give us this table and let us have some lunch?"

Boyfriend?

Sophie Smith lifted her head, her gaze landing, somewhat puzzled, on the man Irene had just called her "boyfriend."

The man looked like he was in his forties or fifties. His looks and body figure weren’t even worth mentioning. Since when had Irene Morton’s taste gotten this bad?

The man saw the Land brothers at a glance but only hesitated and didn’t dare go forward. Irene took a few steps back, grabbed the man’s hand with her small hand, and tugged him forward a bit.

"Brother Asher, this is my boyfriend, the chairman of MK Group."

Irene’s gaze stayed fixed on Asher Land. There wasn’t much fluctuation on his face; he seemed uninterested in every word coming out of her mouth.

She had no intention of giving up on talking to him. Standing here, she was obviously playing the role of the unwelcome one.

Irene decided to make one last attempt. If this final attempt failed too, she would willingly let go.

This time, she really wasn’t joking.

If he still had even the tiniest bit of feeling left for her...

She didn’t let herself think any further.

The table was a round crystal one that could seat about six or seven people. Without avoiding anything, Irene pulled out a chair and beckoned to the chairman of MK Group, telling him to sit down.

Eva Miller and Luke Land both wore puzzled expressions. They had no idea what kind of stunt Irene was trying to pull.

Without Asher Land’s permission, of course the chairman of MK Group didn’t dare take a seat.
