Nightblade (Darkest night)

Chapter 232 232: Strange place

Chapter 232 232: Strange place

Emily dreamt of a darkness. Endless, all-encompassing darkness.

She stood in a dark mist in a starless void completely and utterly alone.

But that wasn't entirely right.

Looking down at her corporeal self, her lips parted in surprise.

Her hands were a whispy and smoky haze

"Why am I translucent? Did I die?"

The memory of the silver eyes was fresh in her mind.

"Is this supposed to be the afterlife?"

After lifemoments, she felt a deep profound regret.

The thoughts of all the things that she wouldn't be able to do.

" Well…"

She looked up scrutinizing her surroundings.

Her last memory was that she'd been fighting, had just barely held on for her life.

Then—she'd felt it.

A searing pain unlike anything she'd ever felt, so much so that her head felt like it was splitting in two.

"What's happening?"

She suppressed a groan. For a brief moment, her vision doubled, almost as though she was seeing the world from two different perspectives.

Her powers started glitching, her ability rebelling for a few moments, fighting against her, then within her a strange change occurred.

Deep within her something slowly awoke from its slumber.

It was something she'd never felt before.

Power surged through her body.

Raw, unbridled, and unchained power coursing through every single fibre of her being.

The mark on her hand throbbed painfully pulsating.

The agony reached a fever-pitch then the pain ebbed and faded swallowed up in the cacophony of chaos that her body had become. Everything that had happened after that was a blur.

The darkness in the starless void seemed to stretch on endlessly.

There was no horizon.

In the periphery of her vision, she could feel things, creatures moving in the dark.

Despite her attempts, she failed to, see them.

After some time, she abruptly stopped, staring at an unmoving figure in the distance.

Like her, the figure was shrouded in wisps of white smoke that slowly drifted around its translucent body.

Emily ran or rather drifted forward with all her might.

"Hey! "

" Hello!"

The figure remained unmoving for a few moments then slowly turned, giving her a listless stare.

Emily abruptly stopped in her tracks, frowning slightly.

" Anthony?"

The figure before was undoubtedly Anthony Grant.

The smoky strands of hair on his head drifted eerily in the void, his clothes swirling in a ghostly wind.

He turned fully staring at her.

No—

Through her.

It was quite creepy and eerie.

And then he slowly began to vanish.

Emily's eyes widened.

" No! Wait! Wait!"

She rushed forward but somehow she failed to reach the dissolving figure.

The distance between them only kept on increasing.

No that wasn't it.

It simply remained the same despite her best efforts. In the end, he completely vanished leaving her completely and utterly alone once more in the empty Void.

For a while, she continued drifting around aimlessly in the darkness.

Strangely the darkness was soothing and familiar, and yet foreign to her, all at her sane time.

She drifted aimlessly around until eventually she came to a stop.

"Why am I here? What is this place anyway?

Almost in response, the space around rippled then transformed.

Suddenly she found herself in a different place.

Emily woke up with a start.

Despite her grogginess and disorientation, the place felt strangely familiar and yet foreign at the same time.

"Where…."

From the look of things, she was in a large wooden bed, covered with…

" Are those feathers?!"

Squinting slightly she blinked several times, focusing on getting her bearings.

The room she was in was shrouded completely in darkness but somehow she could see everything down to the smallest detail. Except the world was in dreary shades of Grey.

"Crap!"

She failed to get out of bed on her first attempt.

The limbs of her body felt heavy and awkward.

Her body felt strangely different and unfamiliar but familiar at the same time.

"How did this even happen…"

Without warning, her body suddenly moved on it's oitsetting out of the large bed.

When her feet hit the floor she suddenly felt slightly disoriented.

She swayed suddenly, grabbing at the wall for support.

"Damn it!"

Her eyes widened slightly.

" I didn't say that…who said that…what the hell is going on…"

She staggered forward stopping in front of a large mirror.

"A mirror? How did I know this was here?"

Her hands reached forward, grabbing at the table on which the large mirror was mounted.

"Hey stop! What do you think you're doing?"

Ignoring her shouts, her body fumbled around for a bit, gritting its teeth in seeming frustration.

" You're frustrated?! I'm the one who should be frustrated!"

After a while, it managed to light a match.

Suddenly, a soft golden glow flooded the room blinding her vision for a few moments.

Her body stared into the mirror with a strange intensity.

Emily gasped at the sight of her reflection.

Which turned out not to be her reflection.

Instead of emerald eyes, a pair of dark brown eyes stared back at her.

A tall figure with dark shoulder-length hair and broad shoulders stood in front of the mirror.

The figure was shirtless and he wore dark leather pants that snugly clung to his lean figure.

Emily felt a faint flutter in her incorporeal chest.

Lean muscles rolled under his skin drawing taut as he ran a hand through his messy hair.

" Wait?! He?! How is this possible?"

"Stop thinking so loudly!" A disgruntled voice spoke into her mind.

Her eyes widened slightly.

With the light on, she suddenly realized that in the darkness, she wasn't able to make out the colour of the room.

It was like nothing she'd seen before.

The floor was made of wooden floorboards and a leather rug.

In one corner of the room, a wooden chair and table sat with several rolls of parchment messily strewn across their surface.

The slight scent of old parchment and dried ink lingered in the air.

For a few moments, she stared back in silence.

Then eventually her lips curled into a smile.

She felt something shift in her subconscious, gently but firmly pushing her away.

Suddenly she lost what little control she had over the body, instantly relegated to the role of an observer."

After a few moments, her mouth moved on its own.

"Hello, Emily."
