Nexus Ascension: My Comprehension Defies the Heaven

Chapter 539: Jasmine’s message

Chapter 539: Jasmine’s message

"Fine, I will not mention it," Grey said with a theatrical sigh. "I am only a man who has fallen in love with an indifferent dragon maiden who refuses to accept my feelings for her."

Alissa looked at Grey speechlessly. From the playful tone of his voice, it was clear he was joking. But for some reason, a faint tinge of red appeared on Alissa’s smooth cheeks, which she quickly masked with a fierce glare.

"What are you even saying? Is this something you should just say to someone? Others will take it seriously."

"Yeah, but I know you will not." Grey spread his hands casually. "I just like teasing you. My day instantly becomes better after that," he added with a soft chuckle. "I told you, right? You look incredibly cute when you act annoyed."

The air around Alissa turned biting and chilly. A fine mist of frost formed on the floor as she began calling him names, simultaneously shooting several sharp, glittering icicles straight toward Grey.

However, no matter how hard she tried, the frozen projectiles refused to land on him.

"I possess a natural law that alters the very trajectory of probability. The chances of you hitting me with those icicles are close to zero due to that," Grey explained with a small smile.

"There is a law like that?" Alissa paused, lowering her hands in confusion.

"Of course. It is from the law crystal you obtained at the space tournament of the Pan-Cosmic Human Alliance," Grey said. "Try hitting me with an icicle now. I will not move an inch from this spot."

"Okay." Alissa nodded and shot a condensed, piercing icicle straight toward Grey. He stood firmly in his place. However, the space around him visibly warped and destabilized, causing the icy projectile to veer off course and miss his shoulder by a wide margin.

"You cheater. You destabilized the space, did you not?" Alissa accused with a snort. She knew she was being scammed. How could an absurdity like that actually exist?

Grey just smiled. He stepped forward and stretched his arm out. "Hold my hand."

"What is with you always wanting to hold my hand?" Alissa’s face became red once again.

She thought it was circumstantial before, but now it seemed like this shameless guy just wanted an excuse to hold her hand. But while she called him out for it verbally, she did not truly mind. She gently grasped his hand, awaiting what he was going to show her.

"You are now connected to my source. If I use my power, you should be able to sense it." Grey demonstrated by briefly igniting his [Source Law of Frost: Minor Succession], sending a familiar, comforting chill that Alissa easily picked up on.

The following moment, the scenery shifted violently. They arrived in the dark void of space, hovering right above the terrifying, swirling disk of a black hole’s event horizon. The crushing gravitational pull warped the distant starlight into beautiful, terrifying rings.

"What do you think you are doing? I do not want to die!" Alissa yelled, feeling speechless and terrified by the cosmic anomaly.

"Trust me." Grey laughed loudly as he and Alissa let gravity take over, falling straight toward the crushing center of the black hole. "As long as you do not let go of my hand, everything will work out."

The following instant, space-time itself tore apart. The massive black hole, the size of a small planet, simply vanished completely, erased by the shifting probability of their survival. Alissa’s eyes widened in sheer shock. She realized that Grey had not actively used any of his standard offensive or defensive powers to achieve this.

"I do not believe it," Alissa said with a lingering glare. "You always make fun of me. I have a hard time believing this is real."

Grey sighed upon hearing this. He teleported her to another chaotic region of space. Without a word of warning, he leapt straight toward the gaping, jagged maw of a sixth-rank space beast.

The colossal, scaly space beast noticed Alissa and Grey and roared, unleashing a barrage of destructive cosmic energy toward them. But one by one, the lethal attacks bent at unnatural angles, missing them by a mere inch. This time, Alissa fully confirmed the phenomenon.

It was as if the towering space beast was completely blind. Its massive claws and energy beams kept missing Grey and her by fractions of an inch, and it continued failing to land a single hit for the entire few minutes they floated there.

"No way." Alissa’s usually cold face shifted into genuine shock. "Teach me," she demanded softly. "I want to learn this law."

"It is not that easy," Grey replied with a gentle smile. "Only a certain few people possess the capability to learn it."

"Like who?" Alissa looked at Grey with visible eagerness.

"Like me, Tian Yuan, and A####," Grey replied with a brief laugh.

"What is your connection to them?" Alissa asked, her brow furrowing into a deep frown. "How do you even know the Abyssal Lord’s name?"

"We are connected in a way you cannot possibly imagine," Grey replied while slowly shaking his head. "But, we are bound by fate to battle it out."

"In the end, there can only be one of us left," Grey said, maintaining his smile. "The last one standing could either be Tian Yuan, me, or A####. And that final survivor will also be the one to enter the Ascendancy Domain as the ultimate victor."

"Who knows, I might actually die in the end. Nothing is certain in this vast reality. Even with a law that allows me to manipulate the fabric of probability, what use is it when my two destined opponents can do the exact same thing? In the end, that probability manipulation will cancel out and amount to nothing." Grey let out a dry, self-deprecating chuckle.

But just as soon as he said those words, Alissa leaned forward quickly and covered his mouth with her soft hand, shooting him a fierce glare. "Do not speak of your own death so easily."

"If it comes down to it... I-I will save you, just like I promised," Alissa blurted out. A completely embarrassed and flustered look overtook her delicate features. She could not believe she had actually let those words slip out loud.

Grey looked at Alissa strangely upon hearing this sudden confession of loyalty. "Do you like me or something, Alissa?" Grey asked, tilting his head.

"What?! No way." Alissa stammered, stepping back with a defensive glare. "Who would ever like you? You are just a... just a..." Alissa became completely tongue-tied. She could not find the right words to insult him.

Grey burst out laughing seeing her flustered state. "You look incredibly cute when you are panicking too."

"I will bite you!" Alissa threatened, baring her small white teeth with a glare.

"Alright, let us go back now," Grey said with an amused smile. With a crisp snap of his fingers, the chaotic space faded, and they were back in the peaceful safety of the Nexus domain.

After that little excursion, Alissa retreated to her room and actively began comprehending the [Myriad Law of Chaos] crystal she possessed.

Just then, Grey frowned. He felt his mind suddenly linking to a newly opened gate within the information layer.

"Yo, Chief Grey! It is me, Jasmine~" A sweet, playful, and familiar voice rang out from the other side of the connection. "Did you miss me?"
