Chapter 691: Jacques’ house
Chapter 691: Jacques’ house
After Coco said those words, she stomped her way down to the first floor and settled herself beside Kairo.
The husbands and the hybrid shared a look, quickly noticing the sour expression on Coco’s face, but they didn’t bother saying anything because they didn’t want to make her even upset.
What could have happened though?
After a few seconds, Cleora descended the stairs, a look of discomfort and sadness on her features.
It was obvious for the onlookers that Coco and Cleora had a disagreement, but Cleora seemed like she looked rather guilty and sheepish than the woman who is of lesser status than her.
Bob and Marie stared at the Duchess, finding her furrowed eyebrows somewhat confusing.
She’s displeased with Coco, isn’t she? Why hasn’t she ordered for her men to take Coco away? And why does she look like she’s the one in the wrong out of the two of them?
Cleora is the Duchess, so she makes no mistake.
Yet, for some reason, she kept shooting a hopeful and apologetic glance on Coco’s way.
Coco kept her gaze away from Cleora though.
Bob cleared his throat and approached Cleora, who was standing three steps away from Zaque who was standing right in front of Coco.
"Your Grace, when can I start with my work?" The craftsman asked, making Cleora look at him.
"Right away." Cleora stated, her face switching from hopeful to blank in a blink. "And if you may, start working on the furniture for the first floor."
"I understand, Your Grace." Bob said, lowering his head. "I will start right away."
Then, he turned to Coco and kept his head lowered. "My lady, may I talk to you about the furnishings of this lovely abode?"
Coco simply smiled and nodded her head. "With pleasure."
Without shooting a glance at Cleora’s way, Coco grabbed Heiren’s wrist and tugged him towards Bob, following right behind him as he made his way inside the kitchen.
Heiren flinched and stumbled, but he quickly recovered and tried to keep up with Coco’s pace.
Now, it’s just Cleora, Coco’s husbands and soon-to-be husband, Coco’s friends, and Marie left in the empty room right beside the staircase.
Cleora sighed. "It seems like I won’t be forgiven any time soon."
Jacques and Zaque shared a glance, both of them asking each other what may have happened for Cleora to say such a thing, but neither knew so they were left wondering.
"Anyway, you must start with Jacques’ house right away as well." Cleora stated and lifted her gaze, staring directly at Marie.
The young woman flinched and fervently nodded her head. "Yes, Madam!"
Cleora looked away and walked past all of them, making her way to the front doors. "Follow me. I’ll give you a tour at Jacques’ house. It’s right on the corner down the street."
The Otherworlder Street only has a couple of houses lined across each other— two houses on the right side and two other houses in front.
The street itself doesn’t have any occupants yet, but there were a couple of newly built houses right before one could enter the Otherworlder Street and the last house that didn’t have an occupant will be given to Jacques and her husbands.
Cleora led the four of them down the street, ignoring the way Jacques kept throwing a questioning glance at her direction.
After passing by the house beside Coco’s house, they walked around the corner— which was on their left, and walked a bit more to get to the closed gates ahead of them.
Unlike the modern houses they saw a few seconds ago, the house Cleora led them to were a lot more similar to the common houses of the world.
Cleora stopped in front of the gate and brought out a key from her sleeve, which she retrieved from her personal inventory just a second ago, then pushed the key into the keyhole.
"This will be your house." Cleora hummed and pushed the gates open, turning her head to smile at Jacques.
The house was significantly smaller than Coco’s.
However, it’s bigger than their house back at Yogusho Village.
Besides, the fact that she will be receiving a free house from Coco’s mother was already a lot to take in and she was more than thankful for the woman for giving this much to her, her husband, and her soon-to-be husband.
"Thank you." Jacques mumbled, lowering her head and bowing to Cleora, her voice laced with sincere gratitude. "Just bringing us here to protect us is enough, but you went far and beyond."
Renaldo and Jonathan quickly lowered their heads, expressing their gratitude in their silent ways.
"It’s my job." Cleora stated, refusing to look at Jacques and her companions. "Raise your heads, children. Doing such a thing would only make Coco angrier at me."
Marie tilted her head, eyebrows furrowing in confusion. Coco? Isn’t that Bob’s new employer?
Actually, isn’t the Duchess their employer? But the ones they’re working on are the people who are important to her?
Marie scratched her head. Eh, it’s not my business.. I just want the money and experience.
So, she turned her head away and decided to look at the exterior of the house she will be helping to make it homey, already checking out what could be put on where.
On the other hand, Jacques and the mediators raised their heads.
"Coco’s mad at you?" Renaldo asked, unable to stop the words from leaving his mother and making the other two whip their heads to look at him, eyes wide in shock.
Aren’t they supposed to keep their noses out of the mother and daughter business? Why is Renaldo asking such things?!
"She is." Cleora mumbled, her gaze softening. "I did something that made her upset, so now, I must look for her sisters and make it up to the three of them before Coco decides to drift away from me."
Jonathan stared and huffed. "I don’t think she will do that."
