Chapter 409: Front desk woman and Neo
Chapter 409: Front desk woman and Neo
As promised, Captain Orlan did scold the guards for their behavior towards Coco.
He didn’t do it after she left to get the other monster though, he did it once she had to leave to go back to the hunter guild with the first flying pig she killed.
She planned to make two trips to go to the hunter guild and as usual, the people looked at her with astonishment when she walked through the door with the flying pig perched snugly on her shoulders.
The woman by the front desk looked terrified when she saw Coco, but for a different reason.
"Madam Coco!" She gasped, rounding the desk. "You didn’t clip the mission you chose, did you?! You’re supposed to clip it to the person at the desk this morning so someone would have gone with you to help you carry the monsters!"
Coco blinked and stopped in her tracks. "I was supposed to.. Uh, clip it?"
No one told her about what she should do.. But she was also at fault for not asking anyone in the guild this morning because she was in a hurry to get away from her work friends.
"I’m sorry." She apologized as soon as the woman got to her. "I wasn’t informed of what I should do."
The woman, who has white hair and beautiful deep blue eyes, ran up to her and looked at the flying pig she had on her shoulders. "This one is quite big.. Ah, oh well, I’ll take care of your mission myself."
"Am I causing you trouble?" Coco asked, frowning.
She felt really bad at the fact that she had bothered someone for not being meticulous with this hunter thing, but it also made her realize that she’s not working for the monsters she hunts to be killed by her friend anymore.
"Yes, but it’s okay." The woman said softly and started to walk back to the desk. "Please follow me."
"I’m really sorry." Coco apologized again, the corner of her lips curling further down, unable to stop herself from feeling upset at the trouble she caused.
"It’s okay, madam!" The woman tried to reassure her again. "I can take care of it in a minute!"
True to the woman’s word, whatever she needed to do was done in just under three minutes— actually, no, it was just approximately a minute.
All she did was take the mission from Coco and slip it on a strange device that looked similar to a paper shredder.
After that, a couple of minutes passed and then the door behind the front desk creaked open, revealing a muscular man who looked like he had just woken up from a deep slumber due to his wild bed hair.
Coco stared at the man and the man turned to her, only for his eyes to go wide once he saw the flying pig on her shoulders.
"Oh, dear." The man mumbled and frowned. "So you’re Coco."
"What’s that supposed to mean?!" The garden fairy exclaimed, feeling quite offended for Coco’s sake and pointed an accusing finger towards the man.
"Yes, that’s me." Coco affirmed, shooting him a friendly smile that she could muster.
"Great, I’m glad that I’m the one who you got." The man sighed deeply and rounded the desk, his hand reaching out to grab the pig off her shoulders.
"This one’s.." The man grunted as he hauled the pig over his shoulder with a little effort compared to Coco’s.. Struggle. "Is quite heavy.. Just how did you manage to carry this? Where did you come from? The forest? And walked all the way here?"
Coco nodded her head and scratched the back of her neck, feeling quite embarrassed for some reason.
"She has another flying pig to get." The woman behind the desk called out, making the man turn to her with a bewildered look in his face.
"Are you kidding me?" He blurted out.
"No." The woman hummed and nudged her towards Coco. "She picked a B-rank mission off the mission board."
"Missions have ranks?" Coco raised an eyebrow, blinking.
This time, both of them snapped their attention towards Coco, eyes wide in surprise.
"You didn’t know?" The woman questioned, her voice slightly rising in volume which caused other people to turn their heads in their direction.
Upon seeing this, the man sighed. "I’ll go and put this at the back, then we’ll go out to get another."
The woman opened her mouth to speak, but Coco had beaten her.
"Actually, I’ve already caught two, but I have to leave the second one at the office of the captain by the gates because I can’t carry two of them at the same time." Coco said, informing the man.
"Captain?"
"Who?"
They both asked at the same time, confused as to who she was talking about.
"Captain Orlan? The captain of the order of the knights?" Coco mused, tilting her head in confusion. "Is he not well-known—"
"You know the captain?!" The man exclaimed, his grip on the pig tightening.
Coco jumped in her spot and stared at him with wide eyes, startled by the sudden raise of his voice. "Ye.. Yes? Is there any Captain Orlan around here?"
"No, but how?!" The man gaped at her, blinking owlishly.
"Am I supposed to answer that or..?" Coco frowned, not liking that they were asking too many questions.
The man shook his head when he realized what Coco was implying and quickly backed down. "No, no, no, no— that’s not what I meant."
"Just move, Neo." The woman behind the desk sighed and waved him off. "I’ll take care of her."
"What?" The man, who is now named Neo, asked.
"You take the pig from the Captain’s office while I look for the book Madam Coco will need to know about the guild." The woman stated bluntly. "So go."
"Book?" Lala questioned, taking the word out of Coco’s mouth.
Neo didn’t waste any breath and immediately moved, his footsteps loud, but quick as he left the front desk.
