Never Just Friends

The Aftermath

The Aftermath

After a few minutes, Finn glanced over, his brow furrowed with concern. “Hanna, are you okay?”

She looked over at him, forcing a small smile. “It was… tough,” she admitted quietly. “I knew your parents wouldn’t exactly welcome me with open arms, but… I didn’t expect it to be so intense.”

Finn sighed, running a hand through his hair, his frustration evident. “They were completely out of line. Especially my dad. I had no idea he’d take things that far.”

“It’s not your fault,” Hanna said, reaching out to place a comforting hand on his arm. “I’m just… I don’t want to be a problem for you, Finn. I don’t want to cause tension with your family.”

He glanced at her sharply, his eyes filled with resolve. “You’re not the problem, Hanna. They are. And I’m not going to let them push you away. I care about you too much to let them decide who I can and can’t be with.”

Hanna’s heart softened at his words, and she gave his hand a gentle squeeze. “I care about you too, Finn. But… I also know this isn’t easy. Your family means a lot to you.”

He nodded, his gaze fixed on the road. “They do. But so do you.” He turned to look at her, his eyes warm and steady. “You’re the one who makes me feel like myself, Hanna. I don’t feel that with anyone else—not even with my family.”

Hanna felt a rush of warmth at his words, and for the first time that night, the tension in her chest began to ease. “Thank you,” she whispered. “For standing up for me. For everything.”

They pulled up in front of her house, and Finn turned off the car, lingering for a moment as if he weren’t ready to let her go. “I’m serious, Hanna,” he murmured. “I’m not going to let them come between us. No matter what.”

Hanna’s heart swelled as she looked at him, a small smile playing at her lips. “I believe you,” she said softly. “And… I’m not going anywhere, either.”

They leaned toward each other, their foreheads touching in a quiet moment of understanding. The night had been difficult, but in this moment, Hanna felt closer to Finn than ever, their shared determination binding them together.

As she stepped out of the car, Hanna knew there would be more challenges ahead—more difficult conversations, more judgment to face. But as she looked back at Finn, watching as he gave her a reassuring smile, she felt a renewed sense of strength.
