Never Just Friends

Hanna and Finn’s New Chapter

Hanna and Finn’s New Chapter

With the tension of the past finally behind them, Hanna and Finn embraced the chance to rebuild their relationship. It was as though a cloud had lifted, and they were free to rediscover the ease and joy that had brought them together in the first place. Their days became a series of small adventures, filled with laughter and quiet moments that felt as significant as grand gestures.

They wandered the city with no set plans, letting curiosity guide them. Some days, they would stumble upon a bustling market, where they’d sample fresh pastries and tease each other over who found the best street food. Other days, they sought out quieter spots—hidden parks, cobblestone alleys, or benches overlooking the canal—places where the world seemed to slow down just for them.

One crisp afternoon, as they meandered down a narrow street lined with ivy-covered buildings, Finn stopped in his tracks. His eyes lit up as he spotted a quaint little bookstore tucked between a bakery and a flower shop. The wooden sign above the door read Second Chapter, and the large window displayed an assortment of books that seemed to beckon them inside.

“This,” Finn declared, holding the door open for Hanna, “is where we’ll find your next guilty pleasure read.”

“Or maybe yours,” she quipped, stepping inside.

The scent of old paper and polished wood wrapped around them like a warm hug. The space was small but cozy, with towering shelves that seemed to reach the ceiling. A ladder leaned precariously against one of the shelves, and a sleepy tabby cat snoozed atop a stack of books by the counter.

They immediately began wandering, splitting off to explore different sections. Finn lingered in Adventure and Sports History, occasionally calling out ridiculous book titles to make Hanna laugh.

“Hey,” he said, holding up a paperback with a rugged man in a flannel shirt on the cover. “Think this guy could take me in a fight?”

Hanna peeked over and smirked. “Not with that haircut. He’d lose on principle.”

Meanwhile, Hanna gravitated toward the poetry section, thumbing through delicate pages of old collections. But she couldn’t resist wandering over to the Romance shelf, where Finn soon found her holding a book with a sweeping love story set in the Arctic.

“Classic Hanna,” he teased, plucking the book from her hands to read the blurb. “Skating through life and into romance.”

“Classic Finn,” she shot back, grabbing a thick manual from the Sports section. “Hockey for Beginners. I thought you might finally want to learn what icing is.”

“Touché,” he said with a grin, bowing dramatically.

After an hour of playful banter and browsing, they each bought a book for the other. Finn insisted on buying her the Arctic romance, and Hanna countered by slipping the hockey manual into the pile at checkout.

They carried their purchases to the café next door, settling into a cozy booth by the window. The smell of freshly brewed coffee mingled with the faint scent of books they had tucked under the table. Outside, people hurried by, bundled against the chill, but inside, it felt like their own little world.

Finn leaned back in his seat, watching Hanna as she stirred her coffee. “You know,” he said, his voice soft but teasing, “you’re my favorite person.”

Hanna paused, looking up at him, her heart swelling at the simplicity of his words. “You’re mine too,” she replied, her voice warm with sincerity.

Finn grinned, breaking the moment with a playful wink. “Even if I don’t know what icing is?”

Hanna laughed, shaking her head. “Especially because of that.
