Hanna and Finn’s Breaking Point
Hanna and Finn’s Breaking Point
Hanna’s anxiety over the cryptic text had been building all day, an unrelenting knot in her chest that tightened with every passing moment. By the time Finn came over that evening, the tension had reached a boiling point, and it didn’t take long for her emotions to spill over.
They were sitting in her living room, the soft glow of a single lamp doing little to offset the heavy atmosphere. Finn was pacing, his phone in hand, as he tried to reason with her.
“We should go to the police,” he said, stopping mid-step to face her. “They can trace the number or at least file a report. This isn’t something we should ignore, Hanna.”
She bristled, crossing her arms tightly over her chest. “You can’t just fix everything, Finn!” she snapped, her voice sharp and trembling.
Finn’s brow furrowed, his expression shifting from concern to frustration. “I’m not trying to fix everything,” he said, his voice rising slightly. “I’m trying to protect you. Why can’t you see that?”
“Because I don’t need protecting!” Hanna shot back, standing now, her hands clenched at her sides. “I need to figure this out on my own, without everyone trying to swoop in and take over!”
Finn’s jaw tightened, his frustration evident as he ran a hand through his hair. “This isn’t just about you anymore, Hanna! That message was a threat, and it’s not just your problem to solve. I care about you—why is that so hard for you to accept?”
Hanna’s chest heaved with emotion, her voice shaking as she shouted, “Because every time someone tries to ‘help,’ they make things worse! You think you’re helping, but you’re not—you’re just making me feel like I’m incapable of handling my own life!”
Finn took a step back, hurt flashing across his face before it hardened into something colder. “Is that what you really think? That I’m making things worse?”
Her silence was answer enough, and the weight of her words hung heavy in the air between them.
“Fine,” Finn said after a moment, his voice quieter but no less sharp. “If that’s what you want—if you don’t want me here—then say it.”
Hanna opened her mouth, but the words caught in her throat. She didn’t want him to leave, not really, but the storm of emotions inside her wouldn’t let her say otherwise.
Finn shook his head, his expression a mix of anger and disappointment. “You know what? Forget it.”
He turned and walked toward the door, his footsteps heavy against the hardwood floor.
“Finn, wait,” Hanna said, her voice softer now, the edge gone. But he didn’t stop.
