Emily’s Suspicion

Later that week, Hanna met Emily for coffee, the comfortable hum of the café providing a backdrop to their usual chatter. As soon as Hanna sat down across from her, Emily raised an eyebrow, her gaze flickering with curiosity.

“You’re different,” Emily remarked, her tone playful yet perceptive. “What’s going on?”

Hanna blinked, a little caught off guard by the sharpness of her friend’s observation. She quickly pushed her cup of coffee around the table, avoiding Emily’s gaze. “Nothing,” she said quickly, though her voice betrayed her.

“Uh-huh,” Emily said with a knowing smirk. “You and Finn finally…?”

Hanna’s cheeks flushed instantly, the heat rising in her face. She tried to play it cool, but the warmth in her expression gave her away. “What? No. I mean… yes,” she stammered, her eyes dropping to her coffee cup as if it could somehow shield her from Emily’s teasing.

“I knew it!” Emily exclaimed, her laughter bright and full of joy. “That explains the glow.”

Hanna rolled her eyes but couldn’t contain her smile. “Okay, fine,” she said, surrendering with a soft laugh. “But don’t make a big deal out of it.”

Emily leaned back in her chair, grinning from ear to ear. “I won’t. But I’m happy for you, Hanna. You deserve this.”

Hanna felt a rush of gratitude, her heart warming at Emily’s words. “Thank you,” she replied softly, her voice thick with emotion. “It’s just… everything feels right. It’s been a long time coming, you know?”

Emily’s eyes softened with understanding. “I do. You’ve been through so much, and now it feels like you’ve finally found your peace. I’m glad you have Finn to share it with.”

Hanna nodded, the truth of Emily’s words settling in her chest. “Me too,” she said, a quiet smile on her lips. “It feels like a new chapter, and I’m just… ready to see where it goes.”

As the conversation shifted to lighter topics, Hanna couldn’t help but reflect on how far she had come. The storm of the past had subsided, and for the first time in a long while, she could breathe. The future felt full of promise, and with Finn by her side, Hanna was ready for whatever came next.
