The Cliffhanger
The Cliffhanger
Hanna’s phone buzzed late into the night, the harsh sound of the notification sending a jolt of panic through her. She glanced at the screen, her stomach flipping when she saw the name.
Mark: You’re playing a dangerous game, Hanna. Are you sure you’re ready for the consequences?
Her pulse quickened as she read the message, the ominous tone sending a wave of dread through her. She knew exactly what he meant. Mark was no longer just a shadow in the background—he was actively making his move, and it was personal.
Before Hanna could respond, her phone buzzed again. This time, the message came with a photo attached. Her heart stopped as she saw the image. It was a picture of Finn and Emily, sitting in a car together, taken through a window.
The image was clear, too clear, and the implications were chilling. Hanna’s breath caught in her throat as the weight of what Mark had done hit her. He wasn’t just targeting her anymore. He was threatening her friends, the people she loved most.
She quickly typed out a response, her hands shaking, but she couldn’t bring herself to hit send. What do I do now? she thought, staring at the screen, her mind spinning with fear and uncertainty. How far is he willing to go to destroy me?
Hanna threw herself onto her bed, the phone still in her hand, as her thoughts raced. She had tried to protect Finn and Emily, tried to keep them out of this mess, but now, it was too late. Mark had crossed a line, and this time, Hanna wasn’t sure she could stop him.
She wanted to call Finn, to warn him, to ask him to stay safe, but she knew deep down that there was only so much she could do. Mark was too dangerous, too clever. No one was safe as long as he was out there, lurking in the shadows, waiting for the perfect moment to strike.
A chill ran down Hanna’s spine as she realized the full extent of what was happening. This wasn’t just about taking down Ciara anymore. It was about survival. And the stakes had never been higher.
As she stared at the photo of Finn and Emily, her thoughts turned dark. How can I protect them? How can I protect anyone when Mark is always one step ahead?
Hanna closed her eyes, gripping the phone tightly, trying to block out the fear that threatened to overwhelm her. But as the darkness crept in, one thing was clear: the war was far from over. And this time, the consequences of losing might be more than she could bear.
She sent one final message to Mark, her fingers trembling as she typed.
Hanna: I won’t let you win. I’ll stop you, no matter what it takes.
But even as she sent it, Hanna couldn’t shake the feeling that she was already too late. The storm was coming, and she was about to be caught in its eye.
