Never Just Friends

A Moment of Weakness

A Moment of Weakness

The knock on Hanna’s door startled her. She wasn’t expecting anyone, and her heart sank as she thought of the day’s events. When she opened it and saw Finn standing there, the tension in her chest loosened slightly—but only for a moment.

He looked exhausted, his shoulders slumped and his eyes dark. His usual easy smile was nowhere to be found.

“Finn?” Hanna stepped aside to let him in, her concern growing.

“I couldn’t stay away,” he admitted, running a hand through his already tousled hair. “I’ve been going over everything in my head, and it’s driving me crazy.”

They moved to her bed, sitting side by side. Finn leaned forward, resting his elbows on his knees, his hands clasped tightly together. Hanna had never seen him look so unsure of himself.

“I can’t stop thinking about what Ciara’s doing to you,” Finn said, his voice low. “And to us.”

Hanna reached for his hand, her fingers slipping between his. “I’m okay, Finn. I promise.”

“No, you’re not,” Finn said, his voice cracking slightly. “None of us are. She’s tearing everything apart, and I feel… powerless. I hate it. I hate feeling like I can’t protect you.”

Hanna’s heart ached at his words, and she squeezed his hand tightly. “You are protecting me,” she said softly, her voice filled with a quiet conviction. “Just by being here.”

Finn looked at her then, his blue eyes filled with an intensity that made her breath catch. “I don’t want you to think for one second that you’re alone in this,” he said. “You’re the strongest person I know, Hanna. But even you need someone to lean on.”

Before she could respond, Finn leaned in, his lips brushing against hers in a kiss that was both tender and desperate. Hanna melted into him, her arms wrapping around his neck as she let herself fall into the moment.

The kiss deepened, their movements slow and deliberate, each touch an unspoken promise. Finn’s hands moved to her waist, pulling her closer as if he could shield her from everything weighing on her shoulders.

Hanna’s fingers tangled in his hair, her heart pounding as the rest of the world fell away. There was no Ciara, no rumors, no pain—only Finn’s steady heartbeat and the warmth of his touch.

When they finally pulled apart, Finn rested his forehead against hers, his breathing uneven. “I’m here, Hanna,” he whispered. “I’ll always be here.”

Hanna smiled through the tears that had gathered in her eyes. “I know,” she said softly.

For the first time in what felt like weeks, Hanna let herself feel something other than fear or doubt. In Finn’s arms, she found a flicker of peace, a reminder of what they were fighting for. And even though the road ahead was uncertain, in that moment, she knew they would face it together.
