Never Just Friends

A Secret Meeting

A Secret Meeting

The school day dragged on, each tick of the clock stretching Hanna’s nerves tighter. She couldn’t stop thinking about the cryptic message from the unknown number:

Unknown Number: We need to talk. Meet me behind the old gym after school.

By the time the final bell rang, her stomach churned with anxiety. She knew it was risky—meeting an anonymous informant in a secluded spot felt like something out of a spy thriller. But her determination to take Ciara down overpowered her fear.

She made her way to the old gym, the building long abandoned and hidden behind the newer sports facilities. The late afternoon sun cast long shadows across the cracked pavement as she approached. A chill ran down her spine as she glanced around, half-expecting Ciara herself to leap out of the shadows.

“Over here,” a voice called softly.

Hanna turned to see a petite girl step out from the side of the building. Her sharp features were accentuated by a mop of dark hair that framed her face. Her piercing eyes were a mix of caution and defiance, and Hanna vaguely recognized her from around school.

“I’m Talia,” the girl said, crossing her arms and leaning against the wall.

“Talia…” Hanna frowned, trying to place the name. “Why are you helping me?”

Talia’s gaze hardened. “Because Ciara ruined my life too. And I’m tired of watching her get away with it.”

Hanna’s chest tightened at the venom in Talia’s voice. She wasn’t the only one Ciara had hurt—far from it, apparently. “What did she do to you?” Hanna asked, her voice softening.

Talia’s jaw clenched, and for a moment, it looked like she might not answer. Then she let out a bitter laugh. “Where do I even start? She made sure I lost my spot on the debate team by spreading lies about me cheating. She turned my friends against me with rumors about things I never did. She humiliated me in front of the entire school—and for what? Because I didn’t bow down to her like everyone else.”

Hanna’s heart ached as Talia’s words sank in. She knew what it felt like to have your world turned upside down by Ciara’s manipulations. “I’m sorry,” Hanna said quietly.

Talia shrugged, but her eyes betrayed the depth of her pain. “I don’t want your pity, Hanna. I want revenge. And I think you do too.”

Hanna straightened, the fire in Talia’s words sparking something inside her. “I do. I want to stop her. For good.”

Talia reached into her backpack and pulled out a worn notebook, holding it out to Hanna. “This is everything I’ve gathered on her over the past year. Things I overheard, notes I took, even stuff from her social media. I didn’t know what to do with it before, but now… I think it’s time to use it.”

Hanna took the notebook, flipping through its pages. Her breath caught as she skimmed over detailed accounts of Ciara’s schemes—plans to sabotage classmates, manipulate teachers, and spread malicious gossip. It was a goldmine of information.

“This is incredible,” Hanna said, her voice filled with awe and gratitude. “Thank you, Talia. This could change everything.”

Talia gave a small, grim smile. “Just make sure you actually use it. Ciara’s dangerous, and she’s not going to go down without a fight.”

Hanna nodded, her resolve hardening. “We’ll stop her. Together.”

For the first time in weeks, Hanna felt a glimmer of hope. With Talia’s help, she finally had the tools she needed to expose Ciara for who she truly was. But as she walked back to her car, the weight of the notebook in her hands, she couldn’t shake the feeling that this battle was far from over—and that Ciara had one last move to play.
