Never Just Friends

A Hidden Truth

A Hidden Truth

Hanna tossed and turned in her bed that night, the darkness of her room offering no relief from the turmoil inside her. The events of the day, especially the kiss with Elordi, kept replaying in her mind like an unwanted loop. She hadn’t meant for it to happen. She hadn’t meant to let herself be swayed, even for a moment, by the dangerous allure that Elordi so effortlessly exuded. But she couldn’t deny that something about it had shaken her, a crack in her resolve that had never been there before.

She stared at the ceiling, her thoughts a jumbled mess. What if Finn found out? What if Elordi’s kiss was the thing that shattered her relationship with him for good? She couldn’t imagine telling Finn about it—would he ever trust her again? The guilt sat heavy on her chest, and with each passing minute, it felt like she was sinking deeper into the quicksand of her own mistakes.

Her phone buzzed suddenly, breaking the silence. Hanna jumped slightly, half expecting another taunting message from Ciara, or worse, some new attack to push her further over the edge. But when she glanced at the screen, she saw that it was Elordi.

Elordi: Don’t overthink it, sweetheart. We’ve got bigger problems.

Hanna stared at the message, her breath catching in her throat. Her fingers hovered over the screen as a surge of conflicting emotions flooded her. Anger, confusion, guilt—it all collided at once. What did he mean by that? She had to admit, her first instinct was to ignore it, to throw her phone across the room and forget about Elordi’s games. But a part of her knew better. He wasn’t one to send a message like this without reason.

Hanna: What are you talking about?

Her finger hovered over the send button, hesitation clouding her thoughts. She didn’t want to fall into whatever trap he was setting for her, but there was no way around it now. Not when the stakes were so high, not when Ciara’s manipulations were still fresh in her mind.

Elordi: You’re not the only one Ciara’s targeting. And I don’t just mean you and Finn. She’s got more power than you think. We’re running out of time.

Hanna’s heart sank as she read the message. Her first instinct was to dismiss it, to tell Elordi to stop playing games and let her focus on what mattered. But deep down, she couldn’t shake the feeling that Elordi might be the only one who truly understood the depth of Ciara’s plan. If she was ever going to end this, she had to keep moving forward, even if it meant getting her hands dirty.

Hanna: What do you want me to do?

Elordi: Meet me tomorrow. I’ll tell you everything. We need to move quickly if we’re going to take her down.

Hanna sat up in bed, her phone still in her hands. The room felt stifling, and she had no idea what to make of Elordi’s cryptic words. Her mind raced, the weight of his message settling heavily in her chest. What if it’s too late? What if Ciara’s already won?

Her gaze fell on the small picture frame on her nightstand—an old photo of her and Finn. They were smiling, carefree, before all of this madness had started. It felt like a lifetime ago. Could they really fix things? Could she really stop Ciara and still hold on to the one person she cared about most?

Hanna sighed, running a hand through her hair. She didn’t know what to do anymore. The line between what was right and wrong was becoming increasingly blurred, and she wasn’t sure she could trust anyone, not even herself. She couldn’t keep dancing to Ciara’s tune, and she couldn’t let Elordi control the narrative either.

But right now, the truth felt like a distant dream, slipping further away as she got deeper into this dangerous game. And yet, Hanna knew she had to keep playing. There was too much at stake to back out now.

Taking a deep breath, she placed her phone down on the bed, trying to center herself. Tomorrow, she would meet Elordi. Tomorrow, they would figure out what Ciara was really up to and, hopefully, put an end to this once and for all. But as she lay back on the bed, the weight of her choices settled on her. She knew the path ahead was dangerous, but there was no turning back now.

She had crossed too many lines, and in doing so, she had to be prepared for the consequences.
