Never Just Friends

A Line Crossed

A Line Crossed

The drive home from the pier felt like the longest of Hanna’s life. The cool night air blew through the cracked window, but it did nothing to quell the storm raging in her mind. Ciara’s words kept replaying, each one more cryptic and menacing than the last. “I haven’t even started yet,” Ciara had said with that cruel smile, and now, Hanna couldn’t shake the feeling that something far worse was coming.

Her mind spun in circles, each thought dragging her deeper into the mess Ciara had created. She had gone to the pier hoping for answers, but instead, she had received more uncertainty, more threats. What was Ciara planning next? And why was she so determined to drag Finn into it?

Hanna knew one thing for certain—Ciara was playing a long game, and she wasn’t going to stop until she had completely destroyed everything Hanna cared about.

By the time she pulled into her driveway, she felt the weight of the evening crashing down on her. She was exhausted—physically, mentally, emotionally. It wasn’t just the confrontation with Ciara that wore her down; it was the constant fear, the never-ending cycle of manipulation and lies. It felt like there was no way out, no escape from the web Ciara had spun.

She stepped out of the car, her legs heavy as she walked toward the door. As she reached for her phone to check for any messages, it buzzed in her hand. She paused, a knot tightening in her stomach as she saw the text notification.

It was from Elordi.

Elordi: Heard you had a little meeting with the queen. Need backup?

Hanna couldn’t help but roll her eyes at his choice of words. Elordi was always one to keep things casual, even when the stakes were high. But as much as she resented his smug attitude, there was no denying that his resources had been useful. He had given her the tools to fight back against Ciara’s twisted games. She didn’t trust him, not completely, but he had a way of getting things done.

Hanna: I’ll let you know.

She set the phone down, letting out a long breath, her thoughts racing. She didn’t want to involve Elordi any more than she had to, but at this point, it seemed like she had no choice. What was Ciara planning? What kind of damage would she do next?

Just as she was about to head inside, her phone buzzed again. This time, it was a message from Finn.

Finn: Are you okay? Haven’t heard from you.

Hanna’s chest tightened. She hadn’t wanted to worry him, not after everything that had happened between them. She had tried so hard to keep things together, to make sure Ciara didn’t destroy what they had. But now, after the confrontation at the pier, she wasn’t sure if she could keep up the act any longer.

She hesitated before typing back.

Hanna: I’m okay. Just tired. Can we talk tomorrow?

The reply came almost instantly, and for a brief moment, she allowed herself to feel a glimmer of relief.

Finn: Of course. Always.

Hanna set her phone down, letting out a shaky breath. The weight of it all settled on her again, and she could feel the tightness in her chest grow. She hated how Ciara had managed to wedge herself between them, planting seeds of doubt in every interaction, every moment. It wasn’t just the rumors or the posts—it was the way Ciara had manipulated everything, twisting Finn’s perception of her, making it harder for him to trust her.

And no matter how hard Hanna tried to hold onto the love they shared, it felt like it was slipping through her fingers. She wanted to believe that they could overcome this, that they could face whatever was coming together, but Ciara’s shadow loomed large, darkening everything in its path.

Hanna walked into the house, her feet dragging as she collapsed onto the couch. She stared at the ceiling, the exhaustion settling over her like a heavy weight. She had to keep going. She couldn’t give up. Not now.

But as she lay there, the fear began to creep in once more. What would happen if Finn couldn’t forgive her? What if Ciara’s lies had already done too much damage?

She closed her eyes, willing herself to stop thinking, to stop worrying. But no matter how hard she tried, the knot in her stomach wouldn’t go away.
