Never Just Friends

A Dangerous Ally

A Dangerous Ally

Hanna was at her locker, trying to tune out the whispers around her as she shoved her books inside. Every day had become an exercise in navigating the ever-growing tension in the halls, where the rumors about her and Finn were spreading like wildfire. Even as she pretended not to hear the hushed voices and the side-long glances, she couldn’t escape the feeling that she was under constant scrutiny.

She was adjusting the straps on her bag when she heard the familiar sound of footsteps approaching. Hanna didn’t need to look up to know who it was. The air around her seemed to shift, the tension in the hallway sharpening as Elordi’s presence settled next to her. She could feel his eyes on her before he even spoke.

Elordi leaned against the locker beside hers, a smirk more pronounced than usual on his face. It was the kind of look that made her uneasy—something between arrogance and mischief, and it always seemed to have an underlying agenda.

“You’re going to need my help,” he said casually, his voice low enough that only she could hear it. His posture was relaxed, but there was something about his words that didn’t sit right with her.

Hanna frowned, instinctively taking a step back. “What are you talking about?” she asked, trying to keep her voice steady, though the unease was creeping into her chest.

Elordi tilted his head, his eyes scanning her face with an almost predatory interest. “Ciara’s not done with you,” he said, his words dripping with an unsettling certainty. “But I know things about her—things that could end this once and for all.”

Hanna’s heart skipped a beat. For a moment, she couldn’t quite process what he was saying. The last thing she expected was for Elordi, of all people, to offer her help in this mess. He had always been an enigma to her—someone she couldn’t fully understand or trust. His motivations were never entirely clear, and his relationship with Ciara had always seemed… complicated, to say the least.

Still, the weight of Ciara’s attacks—the rumors, the lies, the constant pressure—was pressing down on her, and she could feel herself slipping. She was running out of options.

“Things that could end this?” Hanna repeated, narrowing her eyes. “What exactly do you mean?”

Elordi’s smirk faded into something more serious. “Ciara’s playing a dangerous game, but she’s not as invincible as she thinks. I know what makes her tick, and I know how to hit her where it hurts.” His tone was colder now, calculating. “You’ve got no idea how deep she’s in with some of the people at this school. But I can help you expose her—bring everything to light. You’ll be able to make her pay for everything she’s done to you.”

Hanna’s gut tightened at his words. He was offering her a way out, a chance to strike back at Ciara, but she couldn’t shake the feeling that there was something else beneath the surface. Elordi wasn’t the type to offer help without expecting something in return. He never had been.

“Why should I trust you?” Hanna asked, her voice steady despite the unease swirling inside her. “You’ve never exactly been on my side.”

Elordi raised an eyebrow, clearly amused by her skepticism. “Trust me, I’m not doing this for you. But I have my reasons. And if you want this to end, you’ll need me. Besides, do you really have a choice?” His tone was blunt, almost dismissive, but there was a flicker of something else in his eyes—something that made Hanna pause.

She took a step back, her arms crossing in front of her as she assessed him. His words were tempting, but she knew better than to let herself be swayed by someone like him. Elordi was a master of manipulation, just like Ciara, but the difference was that Elordi played his games in the shadows, and it was hard to tell when he was bluffing or when he was serious.

“You don’t want to be in this mess,” Hanna said, trying to make herself clear. “Ciara’s bad enough. I don’t need anyone else making things worse.”

Elordi chuckled, clearly unbothered by her resistance. “I get it. You think I’m just trying to mess with you. But I’m offering you a chance to stop her. For good. It’s up to you whether you take it or not.”

Hanna hesitated, her eyes flickering over his face as she tried to read him, to figure out what was really driving him. She knew the kind of person Elordi was—cunning, unpredictable, and always with an agenda. But she also knew that Ciara wasn’t going to stop. No matter how much Hanna tried to protect herself, Ciara had a way of making her life unbearable. If Elordi truly had something that could bring Ciara down, maybe it was worth considering.

“I don’t know if I can trust you,” Hanna said, her voice quiet but firm. “But if you’re serious, then tell me what you know.”

Elordi’s smirk returned, though it was more measured this time. “Smart choice,” he said, his voice laced with something unreadable. “Let’s just say I know where the cracks in her little empire are, and I can help you find them. But you have to be willing to play dirty.”

Hanna’s heart skipped again, but this time, it wasn’t from fear. It was from the realization that, perhaps, Elordi’s help was the only option left. She wasn’t sure if it was the right decision, but it was the only one that might give her the leverage she needed to take back control of her life.

“Okay,” she said, finally breaking the silence. “Let’s talk.”

As she walked away from her locker, Elordi following close behind, Hanna couldn’t shake the feeling that she had just made a deal with the devil. She didn’t know how this would play out, or what Elordi’s true intentions were, but the storm around her was growing more intense every day, and if she wanted to survive it, she might not have a choice but to trust him—for now.
