Never Just Friends

A Heated Argument

A Heated Argument

That evening, Finn showed up at Hanna’s house, his truck’s engine still rumbling in the driveway when he stormed through the door. His jaw was tight, and the storm in his eyes was evident, reflecting the anger that had been building all day. The sight of him, usually so composed, only deepened the tension in Hanna’s chest. She had felt the weight of the day’s events drag on, but seeing Finn like this made her own frustration bubble to the surface.

“This is getting out of hand,” Finn said, his voice tight as he paced back and forth across her room, his hands running through his hair in agitation. “How can she keep doing this to you? To us? This has to stop.”

Hanna sat on the edge of her bed, watching him as his anger filled the room. She knew how much this was affecting him. She could see it in the way he clenched his fists and how his eyes flickered with that dark, almost predatory frustration. But she also knew that reacting emotionally to Ciara’s latest stunt would only make things worse.

“I know,” Hanna said quietly, her voice heavy with the weight of the situation. “But what are we supposed to do? Ciara always finds a way to twist everything. No matter what we do, she always seems to be one step ahead.”

Finn stopped pacing and turned to face her, his expression hardening. “She’s not going to win, Hanna,” he said firmly, his voice sharp like a knife. “I won’t let her.”

His words were filled with an unwavering resolve, but Hanna could see the frustration and helplessness swirling beneath the surface. It hurt her to see him this way, because she could feel that same helplessness creeping into her own heart. But she had to keep calm. They couldn’t let Ciara turn this into something even bigger than it needed to be.

She stood up, crossing the room to him, and placed a gentle hand on his arm. “Finn, we have to be smart about this,” she said softly, trying to bring some sense of control back into the situation. “If we react emotionally, we’re just playing into her hands. She wants to see us lose our cool. She wants us to make mistakes.”

Finn’s body stiffened under her touch, but his eyes softened slightly. He sighed, rubbing his hand over his face in frustration. “I just hate that she’s doing this to you. To us.” His voice was raw, filled with the ache of wanting to protect her from the cruelty she was facing.

Hanna stepped closer, her heart swelling with empathy for him. She knew he hated feeling like he couldn’t do anything to stop the barrage of rumors and manipulation. And as much as she appreciated his fierce loyalty, she also knew that he couldn’t shoulder all of this by himself. She had to be strong, too. For both of them.

“I know,” she whispered, her hand moving to his chest, gently resting over his heart. “But we’ll get through it. Together. We always do.”

Finn looked down at her, his stormy expression softening, and for a moment, the tension between them seemed to dissipate. The world outside, the rumors, the whispers, seemed to fade away in the quiet of the room. He wrapped his arms around her, pulling her into a tight embrace. The rush of warmth from his body was like a balm for the ache in her chest.

As Finn held her, Hanna let herself lean into him fully, her face resting against his chest. The steady rhythm of his heartbeat soothed her, grounding her in the moment. She closed her eyes, letting the world outside slip away for just a while, allowing herself to breathe in the calm they created together.

“I hate that she’s making us feel like this,” Finn muttered into her hair, his voice muffled but still full of emotion. “I don’t want her to take away everything we’ve built. Everything we are.”

Hanna lifted her head slightly to meet his gaze. “She won’t,” she said, her voice low but filled with determination. “Not as long as we stand together. We’re stronger than her games, Finn. We’ve been through worse, and we’ll get through this, too.”

Finn’s eyes softened, a glimmer of relief easing the tension in his expression. “You’re right,” he whispered, his lips brushing against her forehead. “I just don’t know what I’d do if something happened to you because of her.”

Hanna smiled, her heart aching at the intensity of his love and protectiveness. “You don’t have to worry,” she whispered back, her hands gently cupping his face. “I’m here. And I’m not going anywhere. We’re in this together.”

They stood there, wrapped in each other’s arms, letting the silence speak for them. The storm outside—the one stirred up by Ciara—could wait. For now, Hanna and Finn had each other, and that was all they needed. The world could turn upside down, but they would face it side by side.

As they finally pulled apart, Finn’s hand lingered on hers, his fingers tracing the outline of her knuckles as if he needed to feel her there, to keep her close.

“We’ll fight this together,” he said, his voice steady again. “And we’ll win.”

Hanna nodded, a small, resolute smile on her lips. “Together.”

As they sat down on her bed, the weight of the world outside still heavy on their shoulders, they knew that the battle was far from over. But in this moment, with Finn beside her, Hanna felt a quiet strength that gave her the courage to face whatever came next.
