Never Just Friends

Healing Wounds

Healing Wounds

With Ciara finally out of the picture, it felt like a weight had been lifted from Hanna’s shoulders. The ever-present tension that had dominated her life began to fade, leaving room for her to focus on the things—and the people—she had neglected. Chief among them was Jacob.

Their interactions, once marked by awkward silences and unspoken grievances, began to shift. Hanna made an effort to reach out more, and Jacob, to her relief, responded in kind. It wasn’t an overnight transformation, but bit by bit, their conversations became less strained. The walls that had grown between them over the past few months started to come down, brick by brick.

One crisp evening, as the last hints of sunset streaked the sky, Hanna and Jacob found themselves sitting on the porch, wrapped in the quiet comfort of familiarity. A warm breeze carried the scent of fallen leaves, and the soft glow of the porch light cast long shadows across the wooden steps.

Jacob leaned back against the railing, stretching his legs out as he looked over at her. “You really handled yourself well,” he said, his voice carrying a note of admiration that caught her off guard.

Hanna glanced at him, surprised but grateful. “Thanks,” she said softly, a small smile tugging at her lips. “I couldn’t have done it without you.”

His expression softened, and for a moment, the air between them felt lighter. Jacob’s usual guarded demeanor slipped, replaced by a rare smile that hinted at pride—not just in her, but maybe in himself too. “We make a pretty good team,” he said, his voice steady, but with just enough warmth to feel like a compliment.
