Chapter 162: You Are Truly Lucky, Congratulations to Your Children
Chapter 162: You Are Truly Lucky, Congratulations to Your Children
It was impossible to tell how much time had passed.
The two extremely heavy doors of the great hall slowly swung open from the inside.
At that moment, the shrill screams of all the children inside, their very figures,
and the thick, pungent stench of blood had all vanished without a trace.
The entire great hall was empty, as if nothing had happened and no one had ever entered.
In the very center of the great hall, three immense statues of the Deities still stood.
These were, of course, the three main Deities of the White Elephant Empire.
Vishnu, one of the three, had miraculously grown a new arm.
"Not a single one was eliminated? You’re all quite lucky. Congratulations! Your children have become either Divine Children or Divine Servants."
The Order Manager said with a smile, holding a megaphone.
"This is wonderful! It’s absolutely wonderful! Our family finally has hope!"
"I sold my house for this! I endured a bumpy train ride for seven days and seven nights just to get here. None of the suffering was in vain, and all my efforts have paid off. Thank you for the Deities’ blessings!"
"My child, I am so incredibly proud of you. You must serve the Deities with all your heart!"
The parents all fell to their knees outside the hall, pressing their palms together and kowtowing repeatedly in deep reverence.
Tears of excitement streamed down their faces, and they were overcome with joy.
A palpable sense of relief also washed over them.
Many of them had come with the mentality of gamblers, having already wagered everything they had.
If their children had failed to become a Divine Child or a Divine Servant,
that desperation would have been the spark to a volcanic eruption, the final straw to break the camel’s back.
Fortunately, however, the outcome had made their gamble pay off perfectly.
And so, the parents felt nothing but devout gratitude toward the Deities of the White Elephant Empire.
’This bunch of commoners actually got chosen, just like my child,’
the wealthy, dressed in their opulent clothes, thought with resentment.
They didn’t say anything more, though. After all, these parents’ children were now Divine Children or Divine Servants,
and their status had instantly surpassed that of mere rich people. ’What good is money now? This world is ruled by the Deities.’
Meanwhile, the parents who had been kneeling and giving thanks to the Deities now stood up, holding their heads high with pride.
As for the scorn from the wealthy in their fine clothes,
they considered it nothing more than the meaningless braying of an animal on the side of the road. ’Their insults are just born of jealousy.’
’The Deities are truly fair and just. They don’t care about your background, only your talent.’
One had to wonder,
what expressions these parents would wear if they ever learned what their children had truly experienced inside the great hall of the Deities.
"Alright! Children from number 1001 to 2000, form a line! Prepare to enter and be chosen by the Deities."
The Order Manager with the megaphone yelled at the top of his lungs.
The next group of parents hurriedly pushed their children forward, urging them to get in line.
As they waited, the parents constantly drilled instructions into them: "Be on your best behavior," "be careful," "try your hardest," and so on.
And so the children formed a line. A whirlwind of emotions churned within them
as they walked, step by step, toward the resplendent golden hall ahead.
As the two heavy doors slowly shut behind them, the hall was once again plunged into silence.
’Oh Deities, please, bless my child. Let them be chosen.’
This new batch of parents also knelt, closed their eyes, and prayed with devout fervor.
...
「Great Xia Empire.」
Bald Brother was slumped on the ground, twitching uncontrollably as drool trickled from the corner of his mouth.
When he opened his eyes again, they were completely vacant.
Occasionally, a chilling, witless giggle would escape his lips.
Chu He calmly picked up a tissue and slowly wiped his palm,
before casually tossing it onto Bald Brother’s body.
Both Bald Brother’s gang of Martial Artists and the members of the Defense Team Liu Yuzhu had brought with her
felt a chill run down their spines.
Chu He had done nothing more than place his palm on the crown of Bald Brother’s head.
No one knew what had happened during that time.
But when it was over, Bald Brother had been reduced to his current state.
Anyone could see that Bald Brother wasn’t faking it.
He had suffered some kind of indescribable change at Chu He’s hands.
The transformation was terrifying. If any of them had fallen into Chu He’s hands,
they feared they would have met the same fate.
In truth, it wasn’t just the citizens of other Empires;
even many people within the Great Xia Empire were constantly speculating on just how powerful Chu He had become.
They all wondered what realm could possibly exist beyond the Emperor Realm.
"What did you find?" Liu Yuzhu asked.
"I’ve extracted all of this bald man’s memories.
I know who his handler is.
You were right; forces from other Empires are pulling the strings.
Bizarre products with side effects like these are fetching terrifyingly high prices elsewhere. That’s why these types, who value money more than their lives, are flocking here like moths to a flame."
Chu He explained, his expression one of complete understanding.
"So what’s our next move?" Liu Yuzhu asked.
"Next, I’ll go out myself and completely purge this business from the Great Xia Empire.
I’ll also tell Lu Yinxing not to trust these so-called ’Deities’ from the outside."
Chu He had a nagging feeling.
His own meteoric rise must have made some hidden powers nervous.
An invisible net was slowly being cast over the many ignorant masses of Blue Star.
That net would then pull tighter and tighter, like a frog being boiled in slowly heating water.
The people couldn’t see what was happening; they could only be slowly ensnared by this invisible net,
until they were finally strangled by it.
’Those lurking in the shadows...’
’Their goal must be to catalyze the rapid awakening of some kind of power.’
But Chu He’s intuition told him to remain skeptical about the power of these so-called Deities.
In his heart, he was more inclined to believe that no such Deities existed in this world.
But the truth of the matter required further investigation.
The most urgent task at hand, however, was to first clean up the Great Xia Empire.
"Go ahead, Mr. Chu. I’ll have people on standby to provide reinforcements at any time."
"Where will your first stop be, Mr. Chu?"
Liu Yuzhu asked.
"First stop, Great Sea City."
Chu He replied.
...
Great Sea City was the Great Xia Empire’s number one economic metropolis, wielding immense influence across all of Blue Star.
Stepping into Shanghai, the first things that met the eye were the skyscrapers soaring into the clouds, standing like giants.
Accompanying Chu He were seven members from the Defense Headquarters.
All of them were in plainclothes, so as not to alert their targets.
