Chapter 315 315: Ch315. vs Obito

"Ah, shi-" Ren involuntarily spoke, but Obito was already dashing forward, straight at hi-, no! At Temari!

A jolt of fear surged in Ren's heart as it skipped a beat. His body snapped into motion, and his hand landed on Temari's shoulder before he even realized it. By then, Obito was already upon her, the steel of his kunai almost biting into her body, only to phase through as Ren flooded her body with his chakra and made her intangible alongside him.

He knew it was possible. But he had never done this before. The strain of untrained application of his seal nearly made him keel over. He had no doubt wasted so much of his chakra that calling himself a sensei in front of Hinata and Ino the next time they met was probably going to make him blush in embarrassment. But through sheer willpower, Ren pushed it away, only letting out a groan.

Still, his momentary falter in attention caused Ren to miss the smoke bomb Obito had dropped underneath Temari's feet before he started phasing through her.

The smoke bomb went off, flooding the area with thick clouds of smoke, and Ren heard from behind how Obito forcefully pushed against the ground, hurling himself away...

His sensory abilities snapped into action, and his eyes widened. Obito headed directly in the direction of the other Suna ninjas!

Gritting his teeth in frustration, Ren ignored Temari, whose mouth started to open. He didn't have the time or leeway to waste. Through the hand on her shoulder, he instantly inscribed a seal on the girl.

"Wha-"

And before she could even finish her first word, she disappeared as Ren hurled her through the space to give Gaara some company back in the Little Garden.

Ren was sure he was going to be hearing a lot of complaints later on, but he decided that was a problem for the future Ren. The current Ren had bigger problems to deal with!

Pivoting on his feet as his body lowered into a run, Ren went tangible again, his hands already finishing a short sequence of hand seals as he blew a short blast of wind from his mouth that immediately blew the smoke away while chasing Obito.

But the man's headstart meant he was already in front of Chiyo, who quickly positioned one of her puppets in front of her, about to block Obito's kunai swipe.

Ren's chest tightened as he understood that she had no idea about Obito's abilities and expected the puppet to block the blow. His mouth opened in warning!

... But it was too late.

Obito's kunai phased through the puppet's arm as he sidestepped it. Chiyo noticed and instantly tried to move backward, her feet shifted, her arms snapped forward in an attempt to block the incoming kunai, and even her remaining puppets shifted into motion.

Obito was faster. Chiyo could only watch in wide-eyed, astonished disbelief as her blood spurted from a large gash in her neck, painting her raised arms red with her blood.

The various weaponry of her puppets finally reached Obito and pierced his body, but he simply let go of the kunai stuck in Chiyo's neck and went intangible, making the attacks easily pass through him before he jumped to the side.

Ren arrived near Chiyo just as the old woman crumbled to the ground alongside her puppets, the kunai still stuck in her neck. He outstretched his hand, intending to seal her in a time-stasis seal in hopes that a medic could save her later!

When the kunai let out a subtle but unmistakable hiss.

On instinct, Ren went intangible just a split second before the hidden exploding tag inside the kunai exploded, creating a hail of metallic shrapnel and turning Chiyo's upper body into a rain of bloody chunks of charred meat and fractured bone.

Something in the bewildered expression Ren wore probably amused Obito to no end, because the man started laughing in amusement, pulling the intangible Ren out of his shock.

Ren's head angrily snapped toward Obito, and a blue beam of concentrated cold flames shot from the seal inscribed on his right glove, but unfortunately, Obito once again just phased through it.

Ren didn't stop. He couldn't have used this attack before for fear of hitting Chyio. Even if he didn't hit her directly, the cold beam would still grievously injure her.

Fat load of good that did him! The old bint was now dead!

Blast after blast, Ren shot blue beams at Obito, forcing him to stay intangible while he slowly moved toward the remaining Suna ninjas who were watching the fight like idiots.

To give them credit, the whole battle lasted barely five seconds so far, and they most likely had no idea what to do here. They snapped out of it quickly enough, courtesy of their Jonin-level experience, and Obito found himself under a rain of kunai and shuriken.

But he still wasn't leaving!

Ren's expression darkened as he finally reached the remaining group of ninja. The seals on his gloves burned, not made for such relentless and repeated use in a short time.

The beam was supposed to be his hidden trump card. One-hit-kill, unexpected technique. It was the quickest attack in his arsenal, which is why he was using it against Obito.

But the material was rapidly approaching its limit, and the gloves were at risk of falling apart at the seams in the next few seconds.

Feeling helpless, Ren sent one last beam at Obito before swiftly turning toward the Suna ninjas as two clones burst into existence behind him and started hurling exploding kunai at Obito to keep him busy.

"I am going to send you away." He told them, not even waiting for their reply. They were in the way. Once Ren didn't need to protect them, Obito was either going to retreat or he would continue fighting, but at any rate, Ren's current disadvantage would disappear with their presence.

Reaching out, Ren's hand landed on the nearest Suna ninja. He focused on the seal.

His free hand suddenly shot forward and grabbed the wrist of the ninja he was touching before the man's kunai could dig into his abdomen.

Ren's head snapped up in alarm, and he flushed a bit of his chakra through the man's system, freeing him from the genjutsu. But right in that instant, two other Suna ninjas attacked their comrades from behind.

One managed to evade in time despite the ambush, one now sported a new piercing straight through his kidney, but was alive, and the last one, a chunin that had no business being here, didn't even react until a kunai severed the spine at the back of his neck.

The situation instantly turned worse, and Ren couldn't help but let out an aggrieved, "Motherfucker!"

Three more clones sprang into existence around him, about to rush toward the genjutsu-controlled Suna ninjas, but before they could reach them, the ninjas hit each other in the head with the weapons they were holding, killing each other.

Ren's cold rage intensified as he teleported the ninja he was touching to the Little Garden while his three clones managed to transport the other two, still alive, Suna guys.

The corpse of the chunin was left where it was, as Ren didn't have the chakra to waste.

Finally, all obstructions were removed, and Ren could fight without worry. Turning around, he gave Obito a cold glare as two kunai popped into his hands from his storage seals on his wrists.

Both kunai were inscribed with seals with various effects; Ren was eager to try out what would and what would not work against the Uchiha bastard.

One of his clones popped out of existence... or at least, it looked like it, but in truth, he went to the Little Garden to make a plan with Gaara. Pakura might hard-counter the boy, but the boy would be a massive inconvenience for Obito once he flooded the entire battlefield with sand dust.

But just as Ren was prepared to cut loose, Obito let out a chuckle.

"Hehe~! I am done, onii-chan! See ya!" He said in his cheery, Tobi-kun voice and waved at Ren before his hand curled into a fist, and he outstretched his middle finger at Ren.

The space then swirled around Obito, and he teleported away, leaving Ren standing alone on the battlefield, staring at the empty place where Obito stood just a moment ago with a blank look and a whole lot of anger that had nowhere to go.

Ren closed his eyes and took a deep, calming breath. '... This was a draw.' He decided.

Obito and Akatsuki didn't get what they wanted and were repelled. Ren's side didn't lose. It was fine. Absolutely fine.

But his eyelid didn't cease to twitch.
