Chapter 8: This Place is Called Earth
Lucia stared longingly at the food as the brave hero Xia Li put it away.
She dared not be angry, nor speak.
Living under another’s roof, that’s probably what her current situation was like.
Normally, an evil dragon wouldn’t back down.
To get what they wanted, evil dragons could be completely unreasonable.
But the key was, she couldn’t beat Xia Li.
If she could, she would have already pounced on him like an evil dragon, flattened this brave hero under her feet, and then threatened him to cook for her.
Unfortunately, this strange place had no magic power, she couldn’t use magic, and she couldn’t transform into a dragon.
If Lucia pounced on him, she would most likely be pinned to the ground and rubbed against it by the brave hero Xia Li. So, after thinking about it, she decided to forget it.
Lucia clenched her little fists, enduring it, and walked back to the sofa with a pitter-patter of her slippers.
Xia Li also came over after cleaning up the trash.
Lucia’s gaze fell on the brave hero, watching him sit directly beside her. Although Lucia was still sulking, she still retracted her feet, making some room for the brave hero.
The sofa in the living room was very small, just a two-seater. Xia Li didn’t think it was a problem when he lived alone, but when Lucia was added, he felt it was a bit crowded.
“Wh-what are you doing?”
Lucia saw Xia Li take a rectangular black box from somewhere and then press it gently.
“&%…&*@#……”
A series of messy sounds almost made Lucia’s hair stand on end.
Her eyes quickly scanned the living room before finally locking onto the source of the sound.
A bigger metal box.
Also rectangular, but very flat.
The sound Lucia heard came from this box, and the surface of the box was even more magical.
It actually glowed!
“What kind of top-level magic is this!”
Lucia exclaimed.
From bewilderment to shock, then to excitement at the appearance of new magic.
The expression on Lucia’s face changed unpredictably. Finally, she opened her mouth slightly, her bright eyes reflecting the fluorescent light from the TV screen.
Somehow, seeing her pure and excited eyes, Xia Li thought of himself when he first went to the cinema.
He probably had the same expression back then.
Xia Li could empathize with Lucia’s reaction. He smiled subtly and explained to Lucia.
“This is a television, an invention of humans in this world.”
“Television chicken…”
Lucia stared blankly at the colorful lights emanating from the metal box. Those lights were more magical than magic, forming one stunning picture after another under Lucia’s gaze.
“Is it an animal?” Lucia said innocently.
After all, the picture was moving, so it could be an animal, right?
“It’s not an animal… you could say it’s a magic tool? This magic tool is somewhat similar to a crystal ball that records images. It can play back things that have happened.”
“But it doesn’t consume magic power, but electricity,” Xia Li explained.
Lucia blinked, staring at the TV for a long time without moving her eyes.
She had seen plenty of crystal balls that recorded images, but this was the first time she had seen one with sound.
Moreover, its playback time was very long. It had been more than ten minutes since Xia Li turned it on, far exceeding the limit of the crystal ball’s image recording.
“This is actually not magic?”
Lucia pondered for a moment with a sullen face.
Xia Li said it didn’t consume magic power, but electricity.
But electricity was also a kind of magic…
Except for the naturally formed lightning in the sky, all electricity came from magic. This kind of magic was not only extremely fast, but it couldn’t be stored like fire magic and water magic. Electric magic was something difficult to capture.
“Has human research on magic reached this level?” Lucia exclaimed in surprise.
How long had it been since she had been in contact with the human world? There had been earth-shaking changes here.
Not only were there skyscrapers that stretched as far as the eye could see, but there was also food cooked to perfection, protective magic on bread packaging, glowing metal boxes, and even larger metal boxes that could move quickly.
It was truly shocking to a dragon!
“Lucia.”
Just as Lucia was so surprised by the speed of development in the human world that she couldn’t close her mouth, Xia Li beside her suddenly called her name again.
“Huh?”
Xia Li’s tone this time was a bit serious, as if he had something important to say.
Lucia tilted her head and looked over, seeing Xia Li’s more solemn expression.
“What…”
Lucia curled her toes.
This brave hero…
Could he really be thinking about *that*!
He really did have ulterior motives!
Did he just feed her and now he was revealing his true colors?
No way, even human nobles would at least go through a wedding ceremony when marrying a dragon, how could Xia Li not prepare anything?
And, she hadn’t even been in a relationship yet, she couldn’t get pregnant before marriage!
Just as Lucia’s thoughts were racing ten thousand miles away, Xia Li’s words snapped her back to reality.
◈◈◈
“This place…”
“Is not the world you know.”
The television chicken beside them was making loud noises. Lucia looked into Xia Li’s eyes, each syllable coming out of his mouth with perfect clarity, reaching her ears.
The magic tool called a “light bulb” above their heads flickered.
A moth was circling the light bulb, its shadow casting the entire space in a hazy state.
Lucia blinked and tilted her head again.
“…Huh?”
What was Xia Li talking about?
Lucia understood the meaning of every word he said.
But when the words were strung together, she couldn’t understand them.
“What do you mean by ‘not the world I know’?”
Lucia didn’t understand.
Xia Li’s words were beyond her comprehension.
Xia Li looked into her eyes, exhaled, and asked, “Aren’t you curious why you can’t use magic?”
“Because of spatial limitations?”
Lucia thought for a moment and then said, “There’s a kind of magic that can restrict magic. It can make magic power disappear within a specific area, making it impossible to use magic or perceive magic power.
Some human countries like to use this method to capture giant dragons. Without magic power, giant dragons can’t transform into human form, and giant dragons who have already transformed into human form can’t transform back.
As long as they can lock the giant dragon in human form, they can greatly increase the capture rate.
It’s just like my current state.”
“So, you think you’re inside some kind of magic circle?” Xia Li asked.
“Yes!” Lucia nodded very affirmatively.
Xia Li looked into Lucia’s eyes silently.
For some reason, he didn’t even want to tell her the truth now.
If Lucia knew the truth, knew that she had come to another world, a world without magic power and where magic power was impossible.
She would probably feel despair and fear, right?
Dragons were inherently lonely, and now, she was the only one left in this world.
If they really couldn’t find magic power to send her back…
Then this loneliness would accompany her for her long life.
Xia Li took a deep breath.
He didn’t want to say it, but he had to.
This was a fact that Lucia had to accept.
Xia Li not only had to tell her this truth, but also the rules of human society in this world, and how she should abide by the rules to survive.
Now, before she got to know this new world, he had to let her know.
She had already left the Azure Continent that she was familiar with.
“Your dragon eyes can see magic that’s being activated, right?”
Xia Li suddenly stood up from the sofa.
Lucia nodded. Looking at Xia Li’s serious look, she suddenly felt a chill down her spine.
She stood up with Xia Li and then walked together to the balcony outside the living room.
The rain was still falling outside, and the wind on the balcony blew their hair around.
Xia Li didn’t care how the rain was hitting his face. He pulled Lucia to the window.
Below the railing of the balcony was a panoramic view of the residential complex, and the height of the third floor provided an unobstructed view.
Lucia stood on tiptoe and looked down. The light bulbs standing by the road emitted a faint white light in the night.
“Look up.”
Then, following Xia Li’s instructions, Lucia raised her head.
There, the night sky was covered with dark clouds, and the lights of the entire human city were reflected in the pitch-black night sky.
Lucia widened her dragon pupils, and following the falling raindrops, her vision seemed to pierce through the clouds, looking at the farther and higher sky.
But…
She couldn’t sense any magic power.
Even if it was restricted by magic, even if she was in a magic circle, this magic circle couldn’t cover the entire sky, nor could it affect the entire world.
There was no magic of this range on the Azure Continent. Even if there was, there couldn’t be any life that possessed the power to activate such magic.
Unless…
This wasn’t the world Lucia knew at all.
“This place is called ‘Earth’. It’s my hometown.”
Xia Li stood beside Lucia and said, word by word.
