My Wife is a Hidden Big Shot

Chapter 293 - 285: Inferior in Skill, Lost the Fight

Chapter 293 - 285: Inferior in Skill, Lost the Fight

As the first ray of sunlight broke through the pitch-black night, it was as if a tear had been ripped across the horizon, lighting up half the sky.

Aurora Sinclair sat on a bench outside the hospital, watching the distant sunrise. A storm of emotions churned within her, refusing to settle.

The despair and numbness in Marshall Shaw’s eyes disturbed her deeply, reminding her of the people in the slums of Masovia.

"Thinking about Marshall Shaw?" Alvin Morgan’s voice suddenly rang out.

Aurora stiffened for a moment, then turned and buried herself in his arms.

"What will happen to him?"

Alvin Morgan raised a hand to cradle her head. "The law is unforgiving. No matter how much resentment you hold in your heart, you can’t cross certain lines."

"But what he said..."

"The world may seem unfair, but there’s a reason for the way things are. You don’t have to agree with all of it, but don’t dismiss it entirely. Even though Kevin Whitlock was promoted quickly over the past five years, he could never attain Marshall Shaw’s position—not even with his outstanding abilities."

"Why?"

"Those are the rules that bind the Great Families. They can enjoy certain privileges, but they can’t hold excessive authority. The Whitlock Family already has an inspector, so they won’t be allowed another high-ranking position."

Alvin Morgan’s gaze was serene, without a single ripple. He suddenly took her hand, pushed up her sleeve, and looked at her arm.

"Where did you get this scar?"

Aurora’s expression grew awkward, and she seemed reluctant to say more.

"Please tell me."

"I was outmatched. I lost a fight."

The human traffickers who came to Sunstone back then were no ordinary criminals. They were all Level One Killers from The Shadow. They had come to Sunstone searching for the child their master had taken.

Leigh had followed the medicinal scent on Titus Miles, leading Aurora straight to their main base. Inside, they rescued members of the Martial Affairs Bureau who had been ambushed and taken to a lab.

But as they were leaving, they encountered an incredibly powerful individual. He wore a silver mask and was stronger than her.

He also had a very unique weapon. She remembered that both she and one of the agents from the Martial Affairs Bureau had been wounded in the arm by it.

Then, her power erupted, and she lost control.

She tried to suppress it, but her mind was filled with a demonic voice. "Why do you suppress your true nature? You’re not like the others. You have the power of a God within you..."

After that, she couldn’t remember anything. All she recalled was the cold... scorpion painted on the man’s silver mask.

A scorpion...

Aurora suddenly froze. She shot her head up to look at Alvin. "Morgan, the person who hurt me back then... his mask had a scorpion on it."

According to Marshall Shaw’s confession, his contact was a high-level figure in The Shadow Organization. Even The Spider Woman had to call this person "Master."

He didn’t know who the person was, because they always appeared wearing a silver mask and spoke through a voice changer, making it impossible to determine their gender.

The only exception was at Maple Leaf Valley. That was when he heard the person’s real voice—the voice of a young man.

The sea breeze, carrying the salty tang of the ocean, brought much-needed relief from the scorching heat.

Throngs of tourists were spread out across Solis Beach.

Beneath a large beach umbrella, a young woman in a swim dress and sun sleeves was rubbing ointment onto a man lying face down on a lounge chair.

The man had fair skin and a lean but well-proportioned build, with plenty of defined muscle where it counted.

"What is this ointment?" Alvin asked calmly, trying to ignore the strange sensation spreading through his body.

The ointment felt cool and refreshing, like a medicated balm. It had a pleasant fragrance with a hint of a calming effect.

It was the person applying it, however, who was making him feel hot and flustered.

"Leigh said it’s for internal injuries." After Aurora finished with his lower back, she told him to turn over. "Time for the front."

"Ahem... Aurora, could you go get me a bottle of water?"

"Hm?"

"I’m a little thirsty..."

After Aurora left, Alvin breathed a sigh of relief, immediately scrambling up and pulling on his nearby swim trunks.

Elsewhere, Arthur Lockwood, who was playing beach volleyball nearby, shouted, "Aurora, come play with us!"

Aurora shook her head. "I’m going to get water. Do you guys want anything?"

"I’ll take an ice-cold, white peach-flavored soda! Thanks!"

"I want an iced watermelon juice..."

"Aurora, wait for me! I’ll go too!" Leigh came running over, her feet bare.

After a month-long break, the first match of the playoffs was scheduled to take place in Harbor City.

Arthur Lockwood had insisted that Aurora Sinclair and Flynn Morgan participate in order to make a strong showing in the first match.

So, he had brought all of DAF’s competing members to Harbor City two weeks early to get familiar with the venue and train together.

The idea was sound, but reality was a different story.

Led by the shamelessly doting Alvin Morgan, who spoiled his girlfriend without end, the team had barely dropped their bags before running off to the beach to play.

Once Leigh had pulled Aurora away from the others, she whispered, "Our senior said the inspection team arrives in Veridia today. But Lockwood insisted you join the training camp right now. Do you think the Lockwood Family is planning something?"

She had a serious expression that looked amusingly out of place on her youthful face.

Aurora flicked her on the forehead. "It was Morgan’s idea."

"Why?" Leigh asked, rubbing her forehead with a pout.

"Morgan doesn’t want to deal with the Whitlocks."

Even though Marshall Shaw’s capture meant the mole The Shadow Organization had planted in the Martial Affairs Bureau was rooted out, Kevin Whitlock was still suspended and discharged for dereliction of duty.

Now, they were just waiting for him to recover before he stood trial. If he got off lightly, he would be sentenced to less than five years in prison.

Because of this, Matriarch Whitlock was raising hell. She went to the Morgan family’s estate every day to wail and cause a scene. Arthur Whitlock, though furious himself, did nothing to stop her. This infuriated Master Morgan and Yvonne Whitlock, so they simply had Alvin take Aurora away from Kingsford to let things blow over.

Of course, that was only one of the reasons. Aurora’s eyes flickered as she glanced at a particular building in the distance.

"Aurora, Leigh..."

They looked up at the sound of the voice to see Elias Lennox walking over. He was wearing sunglasses and swim trunks, his chest bare, with an arm slung around a stunning blonde in a bikini.

Leigh pouted and turned away in disapproval to use the vending machine.

"Elias, who are they?" the woman asked first.

Her voice was haughty, laced with a sense of superiority.

"They’re like little sisters to me..." Elias explained with a smile, releasing the woman’s waist and standing more formally.

Aurora gave the blonde a curious look. She had deep-set, dark gray eyes, a high-bridged nose, and a tall, voluptuous figure.

"This is Alice from the GOI Team. She’s here in Veridia on vacation and decided to stop by and see me..."

"Your girlfriend?" Aurora asked.

Elias faltered for a second, then a smirk played on his lips. "She’s just a friend."

"Oh..." Aurora nodded.

From behind them, Leigh twisted the knife. "Jean says guys who say that are usually players."

Elias chuckled and ruffled her hair. "You little smart-aleck."

"Pay up," Leigh said, rolling her eyes and pointing to the QR code on the machine.

Chuckling, Elias took out his phone to pay, then leaned closer to her. "So, this Jean of yours... does she have a boyfriend?"

"Nope. But you don’t stand a chance."

"Why not?"

"You’re not her type. See that guy over there on the beach, the one buried in the sand with a goofy grin on his face?"

Elias stroked his chin as he looked over, a teasing smile on his face. "Glenn Lockwood?"

"Jean was the one who buried him."

"Sounds like she’s in high demand... Mmph—" Before he could finish, Alice suddenly grabbed his face and kissed him.

The two of them immediately started making out, completely oblivious to the two young women standing right beside them.

The two girls were stunned speechless.

Snapping out of it, Aurora slapped a hand over Leigh’s eyes and started pulling her away.

Leigh’s cheeks flushed as she mumbled, "It’s not like I’ve never seen a kiss before! Darius Lynch has kissing scenes in his movies..."

Just then, a pair of large hands scooped her up, tossed her over a shoulder, and carried her off.

"Mr. Dixon, we haven’t gotten the drinks yet...!"
