Chapter 486 - 483: Joining Forces Against the Enemy
Chapter 486 - 483: Joining Forces Against the Enemy
Bai Daqing said with a stern face, "Sikong Yi's escape is a hidden danger to me. As long as he remains at large, I will not have peace of mind."
"Shouldn't the Human Emperor have already issued a manhunt for Sikong Yi by now?" Gao Fei asked.
"He has," Bai Daqing nodded, "but is it of any use? Not in the least! If Sikong Yi has decided to hide himself and not come out, no one will be able to find him."
"This is troublesome," Gao Fei frowned deeply. Sikong Yi was like a sharp sword hanging over Gao Fei's head, never knowing when it would fall. Sikong Yi had to be eliminated; keeping him alive was like a ticking time bomb.
"Forget it, let's not think about him anymore," Bai Daqing waved his hand. "If he has escaped, then so be it! I believe that sooner or later, we will catch him!"
"Sir, you must be careful. I'm worried that Sikong Yi might strike at you."
"He wouldn't dare!"
"Expect the best, but prepare for the worst."
"Don't worry, I'll be fine."
After chatting for a bit more, the two left side by side.
...
The carriage left Eastern Spirit City, and after traveling westward for over a hundred li, a group of men in black quickly approached.
Sikong Yi was startled, "Someone is getting close..."
"There's no need to panic, Your Highness," Ah Xiong waved his hand and smiled. "They're our own people."
"Our own people?"
"They're sent by the King of Xichu."
"Oh." Sikong Yi's hanging heart gradually relaxed. Now that his cultivation was sealed, even an ordinary person could kill him, so he was extremely nervous. Any little movement startled him. Since leaving Eastern Spirit City, Sikong Yi had been trying to break the seal within his body, but to no avail. The seal personally set by the Human Emperor was not something Sikong Yi could undo, let alone Ah Xiong.
The carriage stopped, and Ah Xiong lifted the curtain and stepped out.
"Sir," dozens of men in black paid their respects with a fist salute, their tone very respectful.
"You've worked hard," Ah Xiong chuckled.
"Serving you is worth every bit of hardship," the men in black said in unison.
"Let's get moving," Ah Xiong waved his hand. "No matter what happens, ensure the safety of our distinguished guest on the carriage," he said before returning to the cabin.
The coachman drove the carriage quickly, with dozens of men in black as escorts.
Inside the carriage.
"These men in black were sent by the King of Xichu to protect you," Ah Xiong explained.
Sikong Yi nodded, "The King of Xichu is thoughtful."
After a short discussion, Ah Xiong said no more and leaned against the carriage, closing his eyes to rest.
...
One month later.
The carriage entered Xichu City, and after passing through more than a dozen streets, it stopped in front of the grand entrance to the Xichu royal residence.
"My lord, we have arrived." Ah Xiong lifted the curtain and, supporting a visibly exhausted Sikong Yi, helped him down from the carriage.
"Brother Sikong, we've been waiting for you for so long! You've finally arrived!"
Three men dressed in lavish attire and exuding an imposing aura came out from the royal residence.
"King of Xichu, King of Dingnan, King of Zhenbei..." Sikong Yi was stunned, "How come you are all together?"
"I called them here," said King Zhao Batu of Xichu as he came forward and clasped Sikong Yi's somewhat cold hand, "Come, let's talk inside." As he spoke, Zhao Batu pulled Sikong Yi into the royal residence, with the Kings of Dingnan and Zhenbei following behind.
They passed through the garden and a long corridor, eventually arriving at a large hall.
"Please, have a seat." Zhao Batu ushered Sikong Yi and the others to sit down, then summoned a servant to bring tea.
"King of Xichu, what's really going on?" Sikong Yi asked.
"Don't rush." Zhao Batu waved his hand and smiled, "First, drink some tea and rest, then I'll explain to you." Then, picking up his tea cup, Zhao Batu continued, "This is the finest Yuncai tea, procured from overseas; ordinary people can't get a taste of it."
Sikong Yi grimaced, "I'm really not in the mood for tea right now."
"Brother Sikong, I know you're anxious," Zhao Batu said with a smile, "Actually, I'm quite anxious myself. Just a month ago, the Emperor issued an order for the three of us to meet him in Eastern Spirit City... After receiving the order, we were stunned. Wasn't the Emperor in closed-door cultivation? How did he come out? Later, when we inquired, we learnt that you had run into trouble, and I immediately arranged to rescue you." Zhao Batu briefly recounted the events.
"The Emperor wishes to see you?" Sikong Yi furrowed his brows, "What does he want?"
"Certainly nothing good," Duanmu Lengqiu, the King of Dingnan, interjected, "Over the years, we've done some unsavoury things, and the Emperor must have found out. If he is summoning us, it's definitely to punish us."
"After discussing it among ourselves, we decided not to go," said Li He, the King of Zhenbei. "We don't want to end up like Brother Sikong, stripped of our posts and investigated."
Sikong Yi's eyebrows shot up, "You are defying the Emperor's orders! Aren't you afraid of the Emperor's wrath?"
"Afraid!" Zhao Batu nodded, "Of course we are afraid! But if you think we will meekly surrender, we simply can't do it." Then he added, "We are no longer the insignificant figures of before; we are princes who command the winds and summon the rain. With just a stomp, the Human Territory trembles; we've grown accustomed to living above others. To be reduced to prisoners, that is something we cannot accept."
"King of Xichu is right," Duanmu Lengqiu, the King of Dingnan, said emphatically, "To expect us to become prisoners is downright impossible."
"I would rather die than become a prisoner," said Li He, the King of Zhenbei, coldly.
"I admire your courage," Sikong Yi sighed deeply, "Your bravery is truly commendable! But have you considered that openly defying the Emperor will surely not go unpunished by him? He will certainly issue an order to strip you of your princely titles and then dispatch armies to subdue you, or even... the Emperor himself might personally come to apprehend you."
"Brother Sikong, if you were in our shoes, what would you choose?" Zhao Batu asked, "Would you resist, or surrender without a fight?"
"I..." Sikong Yi was at a loss for words.
"Resisting gives a sliver of hope for survival, while surrendering means becoming a prisoner and spending the remainder of your days in a dark, damp cell – or in a more severe case, losing your life," Zhao Batu said deliberately.
Upon hearing the word "cell," Sikong Yi shivered involuntarily. He had only spent a day in a cell, and that alone was unbearable! A cell was truly no place for a human to stay!
"Brother Sikong, do you know why I rescued you?" Zhao Batu said slowly, "Because I couldn't bear to see you become a prisoner. I hope you can pull yourself together and join us in standing against the Emperor."
"Brother Sikong, state your position," urged Duanmu Lengqiu, the King of Dingnan.
"I believe that if the four of us join forces, we will certainly be able to withstand the Emperor's wrath," said Li He, the King of Zhenbei, with resolve.
In the span of just a few moments, Sikong Yi had thought through much and undergone a significant change of heart. He took a deep breath and declared, "Fine! I will join you!"
"Hahaha..." Zhao Batu burst into loud laughter, "I knew Brother Sikong would agree! The four of us brothers working together will surely carve out an earth-shattering legacy!"
