Chapter 384 - 381: Face-to-Face Confrontation
"Thump!"
The curtain was flung open, and Ding Dalin, who had just left, ran back in, his expression frantic: "Sir, there's been an incident!"
"What happened?" Cao Buwei asked, puzzled.
"Guess who I just saw?"
"Who?"
"Gao Fei."
"Uh? What! Gao Fei! How is that possible! Are you sure you didn't see wrong?"
"No, I saw him clearly, it was definitely Gao Fei."
"Damn it all, he's actually still alive?"
"Besides Gao Fei, I saw someone else..."
"Who?"
"That old man, the one chasing after Gao Fei. He was caught by Gao Fei, looking half-dead."
"What? That old man was caught by Gao Fei? How is that possible? Isn't he of Nascent Soul Realm Cultivation? How could he be captured by Gao Fei?" Cao Buwei exclaimed in shock.
Ding Dalin gave a wry smile: "I can't figure it out either, I'm still dazed to this moment..."
"This is bad." Cao Buwei's expression changed: "We're in trouble! We need to quickly figure out a way to kill that old man, we can't let him rat us out."
"I also want to kill that old man, but there's no opportunity."
"If we have to, we'll force it!"
"Force it?"
"Let's go, find Gao Fei." Cao Buwei strode out of the tent.
Ding Dalin hurriedly followed.
...
"Where's Gao Fei?!" Arriving at Gao Fei's quarters, Cao Buwei discovered it was empty, not a single person in sight.
"He must be hiding!" Ding Dalin said.
"Search, search for me! We must find Gao Fei! And that old man!" Cao Buwei said angrily.
...
Outside the tent where Wan Fuchang lived.
Gao Fei, holding a dispirited-looking old man, said to the guard: "I have urgent matters to discuss with Lord Wan Fuchang, please go in and inform him."
The guard glanced at Gao Fei, then at the old man held in Gao Fei's grip, "Wait a moment." The guard turned and walked into the tent.
It didn't take long for the guard to come back out: "Go in."
"Ah, thanks for your trouble." Holding the old man, Gao Fei entered the tent, a wave of warmth enveloping him and driving away much of the chill. As Gao Fei looked up, he saw that at the far end of the tent there was a mat of grass, and Miao Kuangfeng was lying on it, his complexion somewhat pale.
Gao Fei set down the old man, clasped his fists in greeting: "Your subordinate pays respect to Lord Wan Fuchang."
Miao Kuangfeng lifted his eyelids: "What do you need?"
"Someone colluded with bandits to kill me, I seek Lord Wan Fuchang's justice," Gao Fei stated angrily.
"What did you say? Someone colluded with bandits?" Miao Kuangfeng's face darkened: "You can't talk nonsense about such things."
"I'm not talking nonsense, I'm telling the truth."
"Words are not proof, do you have evidence?"
"Yes, this old man is a bandit. He told me himself, someone paid a million Spirit Stones to hire him to kill me." Gao Fei kicked the old man: "Stop playing dead, hurry up and spill everything you know." As he spoke, Gao Fei glanced at the old man's crotch, his eyes fierce and full of murderous intent, causing the old man to involuntarily tighten his legs.
Under Gao Fei's intense gaze, the old man recounted everything that had happened in detail.
"Scoundrels!" Miao Kuangfeng roared angrily, "Colluding with bandits to murder comrades is a heinous crime! Bring Cao Buwei and Ding Dalin to me!!!" Miao Kuangfeng was truly furious. In his entire life, he had despised bandits the most, and now his own men were colluding with them, which enraged him instantly.
Seeing that Miao Kuangfeng was willing to take his side, Gao Fei immediately breathed a sigh of relief. On his way here, he had prepared himself to seek justice from the city lord Bai Daqing if Miao Kuangfeng refused to help him, as he couldn't let this matter slide.
"Right," Miao Kuangfeng, having calmed down, noticed something odd, "Did you capture this old man?"
"Uh, yes, it was me," Gao Fei nodded.
"That's quite rare," Miao Kuangfeng pulled at the corner of his mouth, "You're at the Golden Core Realm Cultivation, and he's at the Nascent Soul Stage. There's a big gap between you two. How did you capture him?"
"This old man looked down on me because of my lower cultivation, and when he wasn't paying attention, I threw three Black Spheres at him. Oh, Black Spheres are a type of explosive treasure I found in a remote mountain, and they have a very powerful blast..." Gao Fei had already thought of an excuse in advance.
"Black Spheres? What Black Spheres? Show them to me," Miao Kuangfeng expressed some interest.
"They're all used up," Gao Fei shook his head.
"Used up?" Miao Kuangfeng gave Gao Fei a once over, seemingly not quite believing him.
Just then, Cao Buwei and Ding Dalin arrived, and their presence conveniently helped Gao Fei out of his predicament.
"This subordinate greets Commander Miao," Cao Buwei and Ding Dalin saluted with their fists, "May I ask why the Commander has summoned us?"
"Do you recognize this man?" Miao Kuangfeng pointed at the old man sitting paralyzed on the ground.
"We do not," Cao Buwei and Ding Dalin shook their heads vigorously, "We have never seen him before." It was a joke to even suggest it—they would deny it even if it killed them.
The difference between them was evident at that moment: Cao Buwei was calm, showing no sign of panic, whereas Ding Dalin was slightly less composed, standing still with his calf muscles trembling slightly and a hint of panic in his eyes.
"Hey, are you blatantly lying with your eyes open?" the old man glared at Ding Dalin, "It was clearly you who found me, gave me a million Spirit Stones, and asked me to kill someone for you..."
"You're talking nonsense! You're slandering me! You're framing me!" Ding Dalin jumped up and cursed, "I've never seen you before, let alone given you any Spirit Stones!"
"A despicable coward who won't own up to his actions," the old man snorted, "Scum like you deserve to be struck by lightning the moment you step outside."
"How dare you curse me!"
"I just did curse you!"
"Old man, it seems you're tired of living!" Ding Dalin rushed towards him, about to give the old man a beating. With the old man's cultivation gone, there was no way for him to dodge. As Ding Dalin's fist was about to hit the old man's chest, a large hand reached out from the side and grabbed Ding Dalin's wrist. The owner of the hand was Gao Fei.
Gao Fei sneered, "What? Trying to kill someone to silence them?"
"Let me go!" Ding Dalin struggled violently.
"Alright, I'll let you go," Gao Fei released his grip, expelling a burst of True Qi as he did so.
"Bang!"
Ding Dalin was sent flying, tumbling twice in the air before crashing heavily to the ground, "Ouch! It hurts so much!" Ding Dalin cried out in pain.
"You dare to strike someone!" Cao Buwei took a step forward, glaring at Gao Fei, "Who gave you the nerve!"
"Wasn't Ding Dalin about to commit murder? Shouldn't I have stopped him?" Gao Fei snorted.
"Stop spouting nonsense. Ding Dalin had no intention of committing murder."
"Then why did he charge over here?"
"He was just impulsive."
"Stop talking rubbish!"
"You..."
"You what you!"
As they spoke, the two of them broke into an argument.
