Chapter 2583 - 862: Hush, Listen, the Trees of the Swamp Are Speaking Transylvanian (Not Really)

Faced with the new situation in the Polluted Swamp, the quick-witted Huggesen was not only requesting support from the Divine Spirit but also trying to develop new strategies.

Since the swamp surface was unsafe, Huggesen decided to progress underground using the Transia people’s mining methods. A large number of Gnolls were sent to dig tunnels underground. However, the commotion was quickly discovered by the scouts wandering around the swamp, and after being reported to the Wolf Castle Command, a familiar underground tunnel battle re-enacted in the southern region of the Polluted Swamp.

The newbies from the Unyielding Pride guild were just the unlucky ones to first encounter the Gnoll attack. They stumbled upon the Gnolls blocking their path while completing a communication test mission. Despite being clearly outnumbered and it would’ve been wiser to retreat, the newbies recklessly charged forward, true to their player nature.

Well, with the newbies’ battle stats and their pitiful eco-friendly gear, confronting the Wolf People head-on might still be challenging, but dealing with Gnolls at the bottom of the Transia food chain posed no pressure at all.

Initially, it was just a squad of newbies being ambushed, but soon after calling for help, more guildmates rushed to support them. They easily repelled the Gnolls, but due to the newbies’ lack of technique, they had trouble quickly wiping them out. Thus, the Gnolls called in the Wolf People, who swiftly returned, and the newbies stubbornly held ground in the tunnel, unwilling to retreat due to pride.

Under extreme circumstances where both sides reinforced their ranks, what began as a skirmish turned into a frontal confrontation, which quickly escalated into localized conflict. About half an hour later, when the first batch of Jackal Wolfman Hunters joined the battle with Barbarian Soldiers, the Rushing River Knights Group’s armored knights finally arrived.

This unexpected conflict thus evolved into a small-scale battle.

The next day at noontime, as the Wolf People entered the Polluted Swamp, a senseless battle quietly erupted.

The Wolf Castle Command didn’t see this as a bad thing; they figured full-scale conflict was inevitable, so they might as well seize the initiative. Lord Qin immediately started deploying troops.

Huggesen didn’t view this as negative either. It was most frustrated by the Transia people hiding to ambush in the vast and perilous swamp; it was eager for the enemy soldiers to engage head-on. Thus, the God’s Chosen took this opportunity to dispatch nearby sweepers to approach the conflict zone.

Both sides at this time were tense, seemingly ready for a big fight.

The Artist Squad, consisting of four individuals, advanced toward the conflict site through a tunnel dug by the Gnolls. However, the tunnel’s end was not located in the battle area; instead, it was near a newly established forward camp by the Wolf People.

When Deep-fried Sweet Potato, covered in mud, crawled out from below the tunnel and peered out to check the surroundings, he witnessed a fierce Jackalman General rallying troops, shouting to provide support ahead, and the howling Throne Wolves were being saddled while the well-fed, well-hydrated Wolf People soldiers gleamed with menace.

They were also very frustrated by the terrible terrain of the Polluted Swamp. Although the Wolf People generally favored such wet, muddy environments, the carnivorous plants and various dangerous companions were unfriendly.

They hated this place!

It was as if the meat swallowed into the stomach was being digested by gastric juice, and they were that piece of meat.

"Shh, shh, shh!"

Deep-fried Sweet Potato quickly retracted his head and made a silencing motion to his three brothers inside the tunnel. They quietly backed into the darkness, gesturing and whispering:

"Outside there are at least hundreds of Wolf People, it looks like a forward operating base. If we can manage to take it out, we’ll surely be rewarded, but we need a plan; otherwise, if just the four of us rush out, we’ll be eaten alive by the Wolf People."

Deep-fried Sweet Potato rubbed his neck and said to the other three:

"Gather all the explosives we have, let’s see how much we’ve got."

The four quickly emptied their pockets, but disappointingly, the amount of explosives wasn’t nearly enough to ignite the entire camp.

They still had plenty of Butterfly Mines since all four had taken on the daily task of planting mines in the swamp. While good for ensnaring enemies, these mines couldn’t match the power of the newly issued Broad Swords for frontal damage. Besides this, each carried three magazines and some loose bullets. In this scenario, even if the Sniper God’s grace allowed them to take down one Wolf People per shot, it still wouldn’t be enough to eliminate all the baddies in the camp.

"We need to outsmart them! I think we should poison them."

The sly Fermented Tofu fiddled with a bottle of clearly dangerous poison, concocted as a Pharmacist secondary job outside of his primary role as an Iron Barrel Kid, extracted from the highly toxic plants in the Polluted Swamp. When diluted into liquid, it emitted no odd smell, and when applied to weapons, it could temporarily paralyze a Swamp Tiger.

But the suggestion was quickly dismissed.

The reason was simple—they didn’t have suitable conditions for poisoning.

Not to mention they lacked a true assassin among them who could silently sneak in, the Wolf People preparing to move out to support the front line meant they had already missed the best opportunity to poison. The Wolf People did not have the peculiar habit of drinking a cup of liquor to uplift spirits before departure and shouting "Banzai!"

"Or how about airstrike support?"

Pickle Slice fiddled with his walkie-talkie, suggesting:
