Chapter 2525 - 842: Castia Secret History: Becoming Human_3
He pressed on:
"You said the unique species of the Shadow Elves was born overnight? Their appearance changes stem from a genetic level connection with divinity, but that doesn’t make sense. Even at the largest advancement, your experiments could only have thousands of subjects.
Where did so many relevant genes get contaminated overnight?"
"Genetic pool pollution! Murphy, Filoseer obviously hid some harsh things the elves did in secret."
Triss said hoarsely:
"Even before the birth of Lady Spider, the genetic pool of elven civilization had been polluted by their experiments with creating artificial beings! They didn’t isolate those failed ’divine offspring’ but let them return to elven society, which directly led to the large-scale influx of ’created’ genetic fragments into their society.
My God, were you all mad?
How lucky you must have been to not face mass extinction from the spread of genetic defects after pulling such harsh moves?"
"Extinction? No, quite the opposite. It is precisely because of the spread of divine offspring genes that the Elf Kingdom managed to survive crisis after crisis, freeing our kin from the slow evolution and silent decline unique to the Eternal Species, maintaining a lasting prosperity."
Filoseer shook her head and said:
"The birth and split of Shadow Elves was just an accident. After that, the Great Druids of the Castia Great Tree began to strictly control the interaction between divine offspring and ordinary elves, but the fact is, it was already too late to mend the fold after the sheep had fled.
To this day, over a third of the elves in the Castia Elf Kingdom carry various divine offspring genes. Most are recessive, with only a few lucky ones able to awaken the true divine lineage.
Even so, the Elf Kingdom has gained sufficient strength to defend the homeland from it.
This is also why the ’divine offspring’ project has been quietly advanced. Although its scale has shrunk drastically compared to hundreds of years ago, it hasn’t stopped; it continues.
King Quirion is a far-sighted ruler, hoping to continuously create new seeds and protection for the Elf Kingdom through this way.
Even after the incident with Luna, the experiments didn’t stop. Unfortunately, in this era, we have too few symbolic divine materials to collect. Continuously using Avalon’s divine genes seems to have led to a certain ’degeneration’ in generations, with fewer and fewer divine offspring awakening...
This leads to the second reason for me to have this conversation with you two: I am involved in the Black Disaster under a secret mission.
King Quirion hopes to collect some divine power from the Master of Hunting after his fall and bring it back to the Castia Great Tree, to gain new genetic seeds for the Elf Kingdom from the domains of ’Hunting’, ’Slaughter’, and ’War’."
This statement quieted the room.
It was ten seconds before Murphy said:
"I was about to mock you for playing with forces you don’t understand, but then I realized everything you’ve done over the centuries seems to show you might indeed have the ability to handle such dangerous knowledge.
Whether it’s sheer luck or true skills, I cannot agree to what you request!
The Master of Hunting has been contaminated!
You should be aware of the risks, Avalon was once contaminated and nearly lost its life, I don’t think you have enough ability to control the power granted by the subspace."
"Hmm, that refusal is well-spoken, but you needn’t be so serious, as I never intended to obey my brother’s instructions."
The Ranger General smiled and said:
"Unlike him, I am a divine offspring. I can feel Avalon’s will, my god doesn’t allow me to attempt something so dangerous. I will follow His will, but back to the initial issue, Luna’s case can no longer be delayed!
Recently, the Origin’s activities in the Elf Kingdom have become rampant.
She seems to be provoked, continuously seeking those unable to awaken their divine lineage, enticing them to join a strange organization called the ’Witch Cult’.
I foresee that no matter what Luna intends to do, she has entered the final phase of her plan, so I need your help!
We must join forces to eliminate her before she causes more terrifying impacts!"
"Is it really okay to be so ruthless?"
Murphy asked:
"You are her mother!"
"Sir, please think carefully before saying such words."
Miss Filoseer shook her head and said:
"I am the Priest of the Mother of Forest and a Ranger. My life has been dedicated to my god; I will have no love or offspring. Perhaps this sounds callous, but the fact is, in my eyes, that child Luna is a poor-quality product that must be dealt with.
She indeed has a tragic past, but that doesn’t change the sins she’s committed with her own hands!
No matter how Lady Triss feels, as the Ranger General, I must fulfill my duty to the country and its people. She is a murderer, a felonious criminal, a heretic of the worst kind. The greatest mercy for her would be an arrow through the eye!
Though I am an artificial being, I do not feel sadness or despair for my identity.
My creation purpose is noble. Throughout my growth, I never suffered any prejudice or abuse; I even had the fortune of experiencing familial warmth.
King Quirion values my talents to the extent that he truly regards me as family. My sister-in-law, the Queen of the Moon Elves, Lady Ilenea Carronode, would talk to me endlessly, and I have an adorable niece who sees me as her life mentor.
For an artificial being, this is the most perfect happiness I can envision.
To protect this happiness, I wouldn’t hesitate to stain my hands with blood.
I intended to teach Luna with the gentle approach that King Quirion used with me, but Lady Triss’s unexpected interference brought this matter to a sad end. There will no longer be a more merciful resolution to this development."
The Ranger General stood up.
She looked at Triss and said seriously:
"Take on the responsibility of being a mentor, Lady Triss!
If you indeed once viewed Luna as your daughter, if you truly wish to respond to Luna’s twisted yet terrifying affection for you... then join me in giving her release. This is better for both of us, in a sense."
