My Notoriety Spreads Throughout the World

Chapter 537 467: The Girls' Dispute

Chapter 537 467: The Girls' Dispute

Seeing everyone looking at her indifferently, Chichu Chun's bravado quickly deflated, and she huddled her shoulders:

"What's wrong, was I saying something wrong?"

"No, just a bit unexpected." Xu Xiaoyou said. "Unexpectedly, it sounds like something you would say, yet after thinking about it, it makes sense."

"Xiaoli put it well." Tang Xin clapped with a smile.

"Though, adding so much stuff, won't the taste become weird?"

"Even for a sandwich, there should be moderation. Setting goals too high and unattainable is like aiming too far above your reach. The gap between yourself and your ideal can make one lazier."

"After all, the point is to make the sandwich tasty."

"Hehe, Sister Tang, you're right." Chichu Chun lowered her head.

"Who says a sandwich is definitely going to be eaten and can't just end up on the ground, thrown in the trash, and eventually rot?" Angelina yawned.

"Strictly speaking, choices in sandwich bread exist too, like whole wheat or milk bread. Could it be considered insincere in terms of intent?" Bai Youyou pondered aloud.

"Can't you at least show some support?" Chichu Chun's mouth twitched slightly.

"Well." Angelina scratched her head, with sleepy eyes, pulled out Chichu Chun's charred sandwich from the basket, overflowing with various sugary crumbs and cream nuts, and took a big bite without caring if the jam smeared her collar.

"Rice Wine, you made this sandwich, right? Talking as if it's the truth, but in the end, you won't even eat the sandwich you made yourself, so how can you have the nerve to say that life is a sandwich?"

"Oh, seems like it, haha, I just didn't see it earlier."

Chichu Chun sweated profusely, nervously twiddling her index fingers.

"Stop making excuses for your actions all the time." Angelina looked at Chichu Chun expressionlessly, and then at Xu Xiaoyou by her side.

"Wrong is wrong, no sense of responsibility at all, always saying you're no longer a child but still as childish in many matters."

"Rice Wine, what qualifies you to say these things?"

Chichu Chun dumbly lowered her head as the sharp words of the girl echoed around her, spreading an unexplainable dull pain in her heart. She stared at the sandwich in her hand for a long time without moving.

Even now, she was still avoiding the issue with Yukawa Maki, all because of her own arrogance that led things to such an end.

Beside her, Tang Xin noticed the change in the girl's demeanor, offering neither comfort nor advice.

Xu Xiaoyou rubbed her forehead, feeling somewhat helpless.

"Isn't your emotional intelligence kind of low, Angelina?" Bai Youyou said in a normal tone.

"I have low emotional intelligence?" Angelina let out a long 'ha'. "I just find it too tiring to deal with people. Anyway, we'll all die eventually; maybe you'll die, maybe I will. Who knows what will happen tomorrow, say what you want."

"Rather than watching familiar people disappear, it's better to cut all ties from the start and have no expectations for tomorrow."

"Should I list how you were played like a fool in Corrupt Nest City, going crazy in Oasis City chasing people, causing serious damage to the city in the end?"

"Do you really think the Order Court is anything good?"

"Don't even mention the Order Court; in my eyes, justice and order in this world are a joke."

"The taller a tree grows, seemingly sheltering more people, the more nutrients it needs to draw from the soil. In the shaded areas, the weaker plants either wither or struggle for survival, seeking nourishment beneath, lest they be killed by the 'sheltering' tree."

Bai Youyou clattered her glass down: "So you're saying all those who uphold justice and order should be ridiculed?"

"They face the strange gazes of others head-on, courageously moving forward, bringing justice like light to illuminate others, helping more people see hope, trying to rebuild order in a broken world. What part of this do you find laughable?"

"Even if insignificant, although they might not change a lot, knowing there are idealists like this in the world fills people with hope. Even if the hope is faint, obscured by dust, one day it will be awakened. Those who share this hope will unite."

"The courage to live, that's what these idealists bring."

"In the darkness, if even the last glimmer doesn't exist, what will this world become?"

"A primordial forest where only the fittest survive, everyone like you, living by instinct. Is that what you want to see, Angelina?"

"At least this way, people won't suffer in the cycle of false hopes," Angelina finished her beer in one go. "If this light is delayed or never reaches them, then what's the difference from it not existing at all?"

"To live like an animal, following one's instincts brings joy, at least it spares people from spiritual agony and physical suffering, right?"

"Why should they be driven by the slogan of idealists on TV and pursue it blindly? Isn't that another form of selfishness?"

"Isn't this another form of instinctual coercion?"

"What's the difference between a false utopia and a primordial jungle?"

"At least utopia's people are moving towards ideals!"

"Enough, stop arguing!"

The previously silent Chichu Chun suddenly exploded, her shoulders heaving, and her disheveled hair covering her face.

"It's my fault, my immaturity, always avoiding problems. Just leave it, stop fighting."

After speaking, Chichu Chun turned and ran upstairs without looking back.

"Xiaoli?" Tang Xin moved aside, her face worried. She glanced at everyone and then followed upstairs.

Bai Youyou gave up on the idea of talking, just continued drinking silently.

Angelina didn't care either, drinking one glass of amber beer after another.

The two girls turned their argument into a quiet competition; neither broke the tense atmosphere, just continued drinking, Bai Youyou with her Red Pomegranate Ocean, and Angelina with malt beer, provocatively raising her eyebrows at the black-haired girl.

Time slowly passed, a beam of light refracting back and forth along the glass edges, creating a tranquil beauty of fleeting moments in Xiaowei, until the latter half of the night when both girls were knocked out drunk. Bai Youyou lay on the table, reluctantly closing her eyes, while Angelina leaned back sporting a smug look on her flushed face.

"Didn't I still win?"

Xu Xiaoyou looked helplessly at the mess on the dining table and then at Angelina.

"What are you looking at, I... won't clean up." Angelina said and fell straight down.

Tang Xin walked downstairs then, seeing the chaotic scene, shook her head with resignation, and silently started tidying up, clearing the messy table and putting scattered glasses back in place.

"How is it?" Xu Xiaoyou asked.

"Xiaoli isn't mature enough, nor are they, nor are you; none of you are worry-free." Tang Xin said with a black line hovering above her head.

"At least tonight had some results," Xu Xiaoyou helped with the clean-up, "though it deviated quite a bit from my expectations."

After everything was cleaned up, they looked at the two unconscious girls and were at a loss again.

"Didn't expect it to end this way."
