Chapter 29: Tree of Life
Chapter 29: Tree of Life
Victor naturally wouldn’t miss an opportunity like this. Anything that could make him stronger, he would make use of.
"Grandfather, I’ll try it," he said.
"Good. Soak in that pool and absorb the blood," Paul replied.
Victor nodded and stepped into the pool without removing his robe.
It was indeed hot, but easily within his tolerance.
Sitting down, he immediately began absorbing it.
It wasn’t entirely blood, but it clearly contained traces of it.
By absorbing it the same way he would absorb Spiritual Energy, Victor drew in the blood mixed within the red liquid.
It flowed into his body instantly, merging with his own blood.
DING!
(You are in the process of absorbing the Heaven Guardian Dragon Bloodline!)
A notification from the System suddenly rang out.
Victor was slightly startled upon hearing the name of the bloodline—something even his grandfather might not know.
Heaven Guardian Dragon... he wondered what kind of dragon that was.
It was said that true Dragons only existed in the Heavens. If it was called a Heaven Guardian, then perhaps it was among the very best of them.
(59% Absorbed!)
(75% Absorbed!)
The System continued to provide updates on the process.
(100% Absorbed!)
DING!
(Process complete. You have fused with the Heaven Guardian Dragon Bloodline, a Heaven-Class Bloodline with the innate technique "True Dragon Transformation," usable upon reaching 100% mastery. Even without transforming, you can convert your Spiritual Energy into parts of a dragon’s body. Mastery will automatically increase by 50% if you possess the Heaven Dragon Soul. Additionally, as long as you possess and slightly control this bloodline, you can directly seize a Heaven Dragon Soul from others without requiring special treasures.)
[Bloodline:]
Heaven Guardian Dragon (Heaven Class > 0%)
[Merit Law:]
Tyrannical War Body (Heaven Class > 55%)
Heavenly Lightning (Heaven Class > 50%)
[Technique:]
Explosion of War Aura (Locked)
Fist of Wrath (Saint Class > 100%)
True Dragon Transformation (Locked)
Victor was stunned by that final line.
Fifty percent mastery.
More importantly, he could seize someone else’s Heaven Dragon Soul without needing any external treasure—something like an Array Cube.
When he opened his eyes, he found that the pool had completely dried up, with no more liquid flowing into it.
"How do you feel?" Paul asked from above the pool.
"It feels good," Victor replied.
"You know, drawing out the potential of a Bloodline is different from comprehending a Merit Law. It’s like pulling out hidden power. Do you think you can do it?"
Sometimes, a person’s talent lay in comprehension. Other times, it lay in drawing out the potential of a Bloodline.
This could often be sensed right after acquiring a special Bloodline.
Victor tried to feel it—and it did seem like something he could do.
However, the Heaven Guardian Dragon Bloodline was simply too powerful.
Still, since he felt that he could... perhaps he truly could. This was clearly thanks to his Diamond Framework.
"I think there’s a chance," Victor answered.
"Hahaha, good, good..." Paul was delighted to hear that.
Victor then leaped out of the pool and looked around the cave again.
How could such an extraordinary Bloodline be hidden in a place like this?
"Grandfather, have you ever explored this cave further?" Victor asked.
"Yes. There’s something else hidden here..." Paul replied.
"Oh?" Victor grew curious.
"It seems to be a treasure, but from what I’ve discovered, it’s completely concealed and will only appear on its own. It cannot be found directly. Perhaps the condition is mastering this Bloodline," Paul explained.
"That seems likely..." Victor thought the same.
"Come, let’s head back first. You can train at home," Paul said.
Once again, he carried Victor along.
During the journey, Victor wondered what he needed to do to earn rewards from the System.
If he didn’t oppress others, there would be no rewards.
Upon returning to the clan, he noticed that the younger members had gathered together.
There was even a flying vessel waiting, led by Alisa, though it seemed they were still waiting for someone.
Clearly, they weren’t gathering to go to the Heaven Emperor Academy. After all, Victor would only be heading there tomorrow.
It seemed they had another destination.
Alisa approached Victor after he landed with Paul, greeting Paul first by addressing him as uncle.
"Victor, we’re heading to the Valley of Life. The Tree of Life there has just released its roots. Do you want to come?" she asked.
The Tree of Life—an ancient tree that had existed for ages.
No one could take it away. It was firmly rooted in the Valley of Life and possessed defensive power strong enough to withstand any kind of attack.
Occasionally, its roots would emerge.
If implanted into one’s body, a person could absorb Lifespan from it.
More Lifespan meant greater potential. Naturally, this made it highly contested.
However, the Tree of Life generally only allowed each person to absorb it once.
Senior generations, like Ryan Russell, had already done so and could not benefit again. Only the newer generation could.
As for how much Lifespan one could obtain, that depended on their own ability—especially their ability to seize larger roots.
"Of course!" Victor replied without hesitation.
"Then let’s go..." Alisa invited him onto the vessel.
"Grandfather, I’ll be going!" Victor said before leaving, making Paul smile.
As Victor boarded the vessel with the other youths, Emma appeared.
"Young Master, I will accompany you," she said.
It wasn’t that there were no elders present—some were even stronger than her—but this was her personal duty.
Victor nodded.
On the vessel, a sofa had been specially prepared for him by a bald elder.
He even prepared a cup and personally poured wine for Victor, clearly trying to serve him attentively.
The others couldn’t help but feel envious of the special treatment, but none dared to speak.
Even Alisa seemed to have already decided to submit to him.
Victor chose to relax and enjoy the journey, occasionally sipping his wine.
But that was only on the surface.
His body was actually at work, trying to draw out the potential of the dragon bloodline.
It was like a tug-of-war—except the opponent only needed to hold firm, while he had to pull the rope away.
Unfortunately, the opponent was simply too strong.
Willpower—and even strength—was not enough to overcome it.
Victor eventually gave up after a while.
The journey itself wasn’t long.
The Valley of Life wasn’t too far from the Russell Clan.
Soon, Victor saw a vast valley ahead, covered in lush green grass.
The air was so dense it could almost be seen.
The breeze coming from the valley was incredibly refreshing, instantly lifting one’s spirit.
At the center stood a single tree—so enormous it was beyond comprehension.
Victor looked up, only to find that it pierced through the clouds, its peak completely out of sight.
