Chapter 431
Chapter 431
Sunny's probing and provocation at the company today already made Mirabel realize something was wrong.
She didn't expect Sunny to stoop to such underhanded tactics, even hiring fake cops to extract information from her. What's worse, she actually confessed her true feelings.
"Sunny, why don't you just die?" Mirabel seethed with hatred, gritting her teeth and flinging the script in her hand.
Leo and Sunny were still at the company. Leo ordered some food.
Upon opening it, Sunny found it filled with her favorite foods, which momentarily stunned her.
Seeing her holding the chopsticks but not eating, Leo quirked his lips. "Don't get emotional yet. Lately, my taste aligns with yours. What you love, I love too."
The happiness that had welled up inside Sunny sank back down.
Maybe she was overthinking things.
Ever since she met Leo, she'd become more and more sentimental, which wasn't a good thing.
Lost in thought, Leo murmured, "Eat up. You must be hungry."
"Right!" Sunny snapped out of her daze and focused on her meal.
Leo glanced at her and said gently, "Don't worry. They should have gotten the information by now. We'll know the truth soon."
Sunny's face tensed again. She sighed softly and asked, "Am I really that hated?"
Leo was amused by her question. He playfully tugged her hair. "What's wrong? Being with me making you unhappy?"
"Nah. Meeting you has been the happiest thing in my life," Sunny replied earnestly. She wasn't one for beating around the bush.
Leo's smile deepened. "Maybe. You know, there are plenty of women after me, but I'm with you now. Of course, they're mad at you."
Sunny's face flushed slightly. Leo was so narcissistic.
"If being with you means getting hurt, I might have to consider breaking up. I'm afraid of death and pain!" Sunny said, trying to undermine his confidence.
Leo's face immediately darkened, as if wounded by her words. "I can't live without you. Other women don't have your skills. They'd be dead meat. To keep them safe, you'll just have to bear with me. Follow me, and I promise you won't regret it. Look, didn't I order all your favorite dishes?"
Sunny was amused by his serious expression and fell silent, focusing on her meal.
Leo, however, was seething inwardly. He ground out, "If it really was Mirabel, I'll make her regret."
"I know it was her!" Sunny said with conviction.
Leo's anger intensified, his face darkening further. "Then she's asking for trouble."
After dinner, the two people Leo had sent out returned with a voice recorder.
"Boss, here's what you asked for."
Leo quickly took the recorder and thanked them.
They nodded and left without saying more.
Sunny stared intently at the device, eager to hear what was on it.
Leo, even more anxious, played it as soon as the door closed.
After listening, both their faces turned grim.
"Damn!" Leo cursed.
"I've invested so much in her, and this is how she repays me? I'll show her what it means to reap what you sow."
Sunny's face turned pale, her fingers tightening. When suspicion turned to confirmed fact, with her own admission as evidence, she realized how deeply she was hated—hated enough for someone to want her dead.
Human nature could be terrifying.
She looked at Leo, angrier than she was, and knew he was hurt too.
Leo had once heavily promoted Mirabel, never expecting her to commit such a crime.
"What do we do next?" Sunny asked after a while.
"What else can we do? She tried to kidnap you—it's a matter of life and death. I won't let her near you again," Leo said, his fury barely contained. He wanted Mirabel locked up immediately for her actions.
"Okay, I'm with you on this!" Sunny was terrified of being kidnapped again. She'd experienced it once and didn't think she could handle another time.
The next day, the voice recorder was handed over to the police, and without a doubt, Mirabel was arrested at her home.
In the interrogation room, Mirabel sat expressionless. Under the weight of the law, she had to confess her entire criminal process, which stemmed from jealousy.
Everyone could feel jealousy, but some could suppress it while others paid dearly for it.
