Chapter 390
Chapter 390
Third Person's POV
Blake turned around sharply, his eyes pausing for a moment as he saw the woman behind him.
The next second, he reached out and grabbed her wrist, saying, "Don't come out here."
Catherine felt the warmth of Blake's palm and her heart softened.
Sure enough, Blake quickly dropped the cigarette in his hand onto the damp floor beside him, where it was extinguished.
Catherine was almost forcibly pulled back inside by Blake. The next second, he closed the door, shutting out the cold.
His palm was warm, but he radiated a chill all over.
Catherine's face was pale from the cold, but she still whispered, "Are you cold? You should take a shower quickly."
"Hmm, let's go. Are the kids asleep?" Blake nodded and asked gently.
"Yeah, they're getting harder to put to bed these days," Catherine said with a sweet smile.
Blake gently touched her long hair and said softly, "You've really been working hard. The older the kids get, the harder they might be to manage."
"What I'm doing is nothing compared to you. I can see you're not in a good mood," Catherine said, looking at his face with concern.
The two walked into the bedroom. Blake reached out and unbuttoned his suit jacket, taking it off and placing it on the back of the sofa beside him. Then he turned around, wrapped his arms around Catherine's slender waist, and gently held her back.
He said, "Yeah, I've been a bit down lately. There are some things I want to resolve quickly, but for various reasons, I can't."
"Is there anything I can do to help?" Catherine leaned gently into his embrace, feeling like Blake was intentionally hiding something from her.
"Catherine, taking care of the two kids is the biggest help you can give me!" Blake said gently, placing a soft kiss on her forehead. "I need to make this decision on my own. Don't worry about me. I know what to do."
"I can't help but worry," Catherine sighed softly. "Are we really getting engaged the day after tomorrow? I just feel uneasy, like it's too rushed and something might go wrong again."
Blake reached out and gently patted her back, as if to comfort her. "Don't worry, nothing will go wrong. I'll have people keeping an eye on things."
Catherine, of course, believed he had the capability to handle everything. She smiled slightly and said, "Maybe I'm overthinking it. The more I care about something, the more I tend to worry."
"It's okay. Just don't think about it," Blake chuckled, his eyes full of affection.
Catherine let out a soft breath and mentioned something that had been bothering her. "Tonight, Nick kept staring at me. It was really annoying."
"I saw that too. If it weren't for Emerson being there, I'd really like to have someone gouge his eyes out!" Blake's tone was icy, like the freezing cold outside. Whether Nick was doing it on purpose or just couldn't control himself, Blake was furious. Being stared at so boldly in his own home was the ultimate humiliation.
"How could he be such a person?" Catherine was also fed up with him.
"He used to always try to take things from me. I wonder if he's trying to take you away too. His ambition is way too big," Blake was upset because Nick's gaze at Catherine didn't seem like a joke but was very serious. It was precisely because Nick was seriously checking her out that Blake felt even more uneasy.
"Don't worry. I'd rather die than ever like him," Catherine made such a strong vow to reassure Blake.
"Of course I know that. I've never doubted you, Catherine. Don't think about it anymore. I'll make him regret it," Blake, not wanting Catherine to be troubled by this, held her face in his hands and looked at her gently to comfort her.
Catherine nodded. "I can stop thinking about it. I don't want to waste time on it."
Blake chuckled, seeming a bit happier. "Good, then let's not mention him again. I'll get him back for it sooner or later."
"Forget it, that's illegal. Besides, your grandparents would never let you do that. I'm already happy that you care so much about me," Catherine was amused by his words but felt content inside.
The next morning, the news of Blake and Catherine's engagement was leaked. The reason it got out wasn't because some nosy journalist dug it up, but because Blake's invitations had gone out early in the morning.
Naturally, those who received the invitations would start chatting about it, and some media outlets took the opportunity to report on it.
However, during the reporting, they didn't overly hype the engagement party. They just stuck to the facts.
Nowadays, media reporters are all very shrewd. They know whose dirt they can dig up without limits and whose they absolutely dare not touch, even if given a hundred chances.
Blake's scandals never stayed online for more than an hour before being wiped clean.
So, if someone foolishly wrote negative things about him, the consequences would be more than just losing their job. It could drag their entire company down and even lead to jail time.
He was truly someone not to be messed with.
