My Maids are All Final Villainesses

Chapter 78: Border Town Dealings

Chapter 78: Border Town Dealings

The answer never came.

At least, not immediately.

Maxwell stood there, his mind still processing everything he had just seen, when suddenly—

A roar tore through the air.

It was not distant.

It was close.

Very close.

The ground trembled faintly beneath their feet as something massive moved just beyond the outer range of the unfinished wall.

Every head turned at once.

The workers froze.

The Holy Knights straightened instinctively.

Maxwell’s eyes sharpened.

Frazanna’s hand moved toward her weapon.

Another roar followed, louder this time, filled with raw aggression and hunger that made even seasoned warriors tense.

"It’s coming."

One of the Holy Knights whispered.

The presence grew stronger.

Closer.

The sound of heavy footsteps echoed, each one striking the ground with force that carried through the air like a warning.

Maxwell stepped forward.

"Prepare—"

"Wait."

The voice cut through his command.

The guard knight he had been speaking to earlier raised a hand.

"There is no need."

Maxwell turned sharply.

"What?"

The guard knight’s expression remained calm.

"Do not interfere."

Maxwell’s brows furrowed.

"A beast is approaching."

"Yes."

"And you expect us to stand still?"

"Yes."

Maxwell’s patience thinned again.

"That is reckless."

The guard knight did not react.

"Trust us."

Maxwell stared at him.

"Trust you?"

Before he could say more—

The beast appeared.

It burst from the edge of the forest, its massive body tearing through branches and debris as if nothing could slow it down.

Its eyes were bloodshot.

Its breath came out in harsh bursts.

Its claws dug deep into the ground with every step.

A Frenzied Ravager.

Maxwell recognized it instantly.

His body tensed.

"That thing is—"

He did not finish.

Because the guard knight stepped forward slightly.

"Hold your position."

The command was directed not at Maxwell—

But at the knights behind him.

And they obeyed.

Maxwell’s eyes widened slightly.

"They’re not even preparing to fight directly..."

He watched closely.

The guard knight raised his hand.

Then signaled.

From within the gate—

More guard knights emerged.

Not rushing.

Not panicking.

They moved with purpose.

Calm.

Controlled.

They spread out.

Each one taking a position around the incoming beast.

Maxwell frowned.

"What are they doing..."

Frazanna watched carefully.

"They’re not engaging."

The beast roared again, charging forward.

But instead of meeting it head-on—

The guard knights moved.

They circled it.

Not too close.

Not too far.

Just enough to keep its attention divided.

The beast turned sharply, trying to focus on one target.

Then another.

Then another.

Its movements grew erratic.

Its aggression spiked.

But it could not lock onto a single opponent.

"They’re confusing it..."

One of the Holy Knights whispered.

Maxwell’s gaze sharpened.

"Not just confusing..."

He leaned forward slightly.

"They’re controlling its movement."

Every step the beast took was guided.

Every turn it made was influenced.

The guard knights moved like a coordinated unit, each action calculated to direct the beast where they wanted it to go.

Then—

Another roar.

From the opposite side.

Maxwell froze.

"There’s another one?"

Frazanna’s eyes widened.

"It can’t be..."

But it was.

A second beast emerged.

Larger.

More aggressive.

Its body carried scars from countless battles.

Its eyes burned with a deeper rage.

A Bonebreaker Colossus.

The Holy Knights stiffened.

"That’s worse..."

One of them muttered.

"That one is worse..."

Maxwell’s heart pounded once.

Twice.

"This is getting out of control."

He stepped forward.

"We need to—"

"Stop."

The guard knight’s voice cut in again.

Maxwell turned sharply.

"You expect us to do nothing while two of those—"

"Watch."

The guard knight’s tone did not change.

"Just watch."

Maxwell clenched his fists.

But he stopped.

Because something about the situation—

Something about the way the guards were moving—

Made him hesitate.

He forced himself to observe.

The second beast charged.

But instead of letting it collide with the first immediately—

The guard knights adjusted.

They repositioned.

They guided both beasts.

Separately.

Carefully.

Slowly.

Until—

They aligned.

Maxwell’s eyes widened.

"No..."

The realization hit him.

"They’re making them meet..."

The first beast turned.

The second beast charged.

And in the next moment—

They collided.

The impact echoed like thunder.

The ground shook.

Dust rose into the air.

Both beasts roared, their voices clashing in a chaotic burst of rage.

Then—

They attacked each other.

Claws tore into flesh.

Fangs sank deep.

Blood sprayed across the ground.

The Frenzied Ravager lunged forward, biting into the Colossus’s side.

The Colossus responded with a crushing strike, its massive limb slamming into the Ravager’s body with enough force to send it sliding across the dirt.

The battle escalated instantly.

There was no hesitation.

No restraint.

Only pure violence.

Maxwell stared.

"They’re..."

Frazanna finished his thought.

"Letting them kill each other."

The Holy Knights could not look away.

Every movement of the beasts carried destructive force.

Every strike could have ended a lesser opponent instantly.

But against each other—

They endured.

They fought.

They tore into one another without stopping.

The Ravager leaped again, claws slicing across the Colossus’s face.

The Colossus roared, grabbing the Ravager mid-air and slamming it into the ground.

The impact cracked the earth beneath them.

The Ravager writhed, then twisted, biting into the Colossus’s arm.

Blood poured.

The Colossus howled, shaking violently, trying to tear the Ravager off.

Maxwell’s breathing slowed.

His mind struggled to keep up.

"This..."

He swallowed.

"This is insane..."

The guard knights remained in position.

Watching.

Waiting.

Not interfering.

Not stepping in.

They allowed the fight to continue.

Allowed the beasts to exhaust themselves.

Allowed the damage to build.

Time passed.

Minutes that felt much longer.

The battle grew more brutal.

More desperate.

The beasts slowed.

Their movements lost precision.

Their attacks became heavier.

Slower.

But still deadly.

Blood covered the ground.

Their bodies were torn.

Their breathing labored.

Yet they continued.

Driven by instinct.

Driven by rage.

Until—

Finally—

They faltered.

The Ravager stumbled.

The Colossus dropped to one knee.

Both creatures were still alive.

But barely.

Their strength had been drained.

Their bodies pushed beyond their limits.

Maxwell’s eyes remained fixed on them.

"They’re finished..."

The guard knight raised his hand again.

This time—

The signal changed.

The guard knights moved.

In perfect unison.

They stepped forward.

Spears raised.

No hesitation.

No wasted motion.

They closed the distance.

And then—

They threw.

The spears cut through the air with precision.

One struck the Ravager’s throat.

Another pierced its chest.

More followed.

Each finding its mark.

The Ravager let out a final, broken sound before collapsing completely.

At the same time—

The Colossus was struck.

Spears embedded deep into its body.

One pierced through its eye.

Another into its heart.

It roared once.

Then fell.

Silence followed.

Heavy.

Complete.

Maxwell stood still.

His thoughts blank.

The Holy Knights behind him could barely breathe.

One of them whispered.

"They..."

Another finished.

"They killed both..."

Frazanna’s gaze remained fixed on the fallen beasts.

Her voice came out quietly.

"With almost no effort..."

Maxwell did not respond.

He simply watched.

Because what he had just seen—

Was not normal.

Not at all.
