Chapter 684: Chapter 668: Provocation from a Traitor

“Finding the Ghost Vein would be convenient, but Qin Liuxi wasn’t truly ignoring the laws of yin-yang and reincarnation. He still had to snatch the person from the hands of the Ghost Messenger, so it wouldn’t do for Quan Jing to delay with the poison.”

“I’m going to look through the collection at Qingping Temple’s Immortal Ascension Tower.” Qin Liuxi left Wei Xie in charge of Feichang Dao and set out of the city towards the Daoist Temple with two disciples.

Qingping Temple was scarce with devotees in the afternoon.

Wuwei had just finished interpreting a fortune for a devotee and returned to the main hall when he saw a man wearing a dark cyan robe and a hood entering.

“Good sir, one must remove their hat upon entering the hall, as a sign of respect for the divinities,” Wuwei approached and looked at the man.

The man took off his hood, revealing a face marred with scars, and grinned, “Is this face a gesture of respect to the divinities too?”

A cross mark on the face; if not the Black Robed Man Sha Yuanzi, then who else?

As Wuwei’s gaze met his deep and murky eyes, he frowned and said, “Blessings to the Infinite, are you here to offer incense or to light candles?”

“I’m just here to look around,” Sha Yuanzi raised his head to look at the golden statue of the Grandmaster Ancestor and instinctively lifted his hand to cover his eyes and stepped back.

Wuwei, feeling even stranger inside, watched Sha Yuanzi without making a sound.

This man’s presence was extremely uncomfortable for him, very dark and carried heavy yin energy.

Despite that, Wuwei did not consider the possibility of an evil presence because if it was merely evil, let alone entering the hall, it wouldn’t dare enter the boundaries of Qingping Temple. So long as he had been at the Qingping Temple, not even a shadow of a ghost had been seen, not to mention on the mountain peaks behind their own home.

Thinking of the unfathomable powers of Qin Liuxi, Wuwei thought that if he was a ghost, it would not dare to wander on her territory, lest it be annihilated.

Those who know the times are outstanding, and so are ghosts.

Hence, Wuwei didn’t think of the man as an evil spirit in human skin. He just felt this person was strange and carried heavy yin energy, likely bearing significant sins.

Yet Wuwei was unaware that Sha Yuanzi was also internally screaming and feeling extremely uncomfortable.

Merely by making eye contact with the Grandmaster Ancestor, he felt as though all guise was stripped away under those dignified eyes, finding nowhere to hide, trembling.

He wanted to flee.

“Good sir?” Wuwei reached out his hand.

Sha Yuanzi grabbed his hand tightly, glaring back with his cold eyes.

Wuwei’s complexion changed, attempting to retract his hand, his gaze also turning wary. Was this man a hitman from the Martial World?

Releasing his grip, Sha Yuanzi said, “I heard Qingping Temple is very efficacious, and Master Buqiu here is quite skilled—is she around?”

“The Junior Temple Master is not around, other Daoists are, and the temple master is as well. Whatever the good sir wishes to ask, we can accommodate,” Wuwei specifically brought up Master Chi Yuan.

Sha Yuanzi said, “What about you? Can you read faces?”

“Do you wish to have your face read?” Wuwei said, “I only have a rudimentary understanding, but Daoist Qingyuan from within the temple is a bit more proficient than I am.”

“No need, you’ll do the reading for me,” Sha Yuanzi glanced at the golden statue of the Grandmaster Ancestor, “Somewhere else.”

If he stayed in this hall any longer, he couldn’t suppress his restlessness.

Wuwei led him out of the main hall to the rear hall and asked for his birth dates.

Sha Yuanzi shook his head: “I don’t know.”

He had been picked up by his master from the burial ground and did not know his own origins; it was something he never cared about.

Wuwei frowned, unsure if he genuinely did not know or was intentionally testing him.

“Can’t do face reading without birth dates?” Sha Yuanzi glared at him sidelong.

Wuwei chuckled inwardly, thinking if their temple’s little Grandmaster were here, the man in front of them wouldn’t be able to act so arrogantly—he’d be dead!

“Then the humble Daoist will casually make some observations. Good people, just listen,” he said, carefully examining Sha Yuanzi’s facial features, frowning and saying, “The palace representing your parents is dark and collapsed without light, indicating both parents are deceased, and kinship is thin. Your nose bridge is misaligned, bending to the sides, signifying that you have left your hometown since childhood. However, your Taiyin Moon Corner is slightly protruding; were you adopted?”

Sha Yuanzi’s eyes flickered slightly, “My parents are dead?”

“The face reading suggests so; the palace of your parent’s features scrambled patterns and scars, your parents…” Wuwei hesitated for a moment before saying, “It seems they met with violent deaths.”

Sha Yuanzi was stunned.

Violent deaths?

Wuwei was adept at reading expressions and noticing that he had said something that resonated, he continued, “The humble Daoist only has a superficial understanding of Face Reading. Good people, please take it as you will, or perhaps the humble Daoist can invite another Daoist to read your face for you?”

“No need.” Sha Yuanzi pulled out a silver coin and tossed it over, “I can walk around the Daoist Temple, right?”

“The humble Daoist will guide the good person,” Wuwei said. He didn’t know the background of this person, and who knows what he might do if he roamed around on his own.

Sha Yuanzi looked at him with a smile that wasn’t quite a smile, “The people of Qingping Temple are quite cautious, aren’t they?”

Hearing this, Wuwei felt something was off. Just as he was about to say something, the other party reached out to slap his forehead.

Infinite Heavenly Venerate, Laozi is finished; this person surely has a ghost.

“Someone…,” Wuwei opened his mouth to shout, then collapsed softly onto the table, passing out. Just before losing consciousness, he had only one thought.

To capsize in one’s own Daoist Temple, would the little Grandmaster kick me out?

Sha Yuanzi walked out gracefully, his eyes on the five-story Star-picking Tower. Just as he was about to walk that way, he suddenly felt a chill on his back and swiftly turned around, releasing the Extreme Yin Soul Chain in his hand as he turned.

Master Chi Yuan deftly wielded his horsetail whisk, wrapping it around that soul chain and yanking it, his gaze sharp, “Who are you? How dare you trespass into Qingping Temple.”

When Sha Yuanzi saw him, his lips moved slightly, and the soul chain seemed to let out a high-pitched scream, as several Evil Souls emerged from the chain, lunging at Master Chi Yuan to bite and tear at him.

Master Chi Yuan’s face remained composed, as he stomped his foot and made a Sealing gesture: “From no extremities of heaven and earth, I borrow the powers of the universe, protect my true self, Mei Fire unsheathed, Break!”

A burst of golden light seemed to emanate from his body, repelling those shrieking Evil Souls.

“Heavenly Thunder descends, fires of earth arise, drive away worldly evils, by command of the law, order.”

Before the Evil Souls had a chance to recover, Master Chi Yuan drew another talisman in the Void and launched it towards them.

Piercing screams echoed through the rear hall.

Sha Yuanzi’s eyes shone brightly, and with a flick of his hand, he shot a barrage of Pear Blossom Needles at Master Chi Yuan.

Master Chi Yuan hastily retreated, and just at that moment, Daoist Qingyuan approached quickly. Seeing this, Sha Yuanzi chanted a spell and instantly vanished using a shadow-stealing technique.

Master Chi Yuan was about to pursue when he felt a piercing cold pain in his shoulder. Looking down, he found two Pear Blossom Needles embedded there, the yin energy slowly infiltrating his body.

He removed the needles, pressed a couple of acupoints, and drew an Evil Suppression Talisman on the punctured spot to extract the yin energy.

Looking up in the direction where Sha Yuanzi had disappeared, Master Chi Yuan’s expression turned somewhat ugly.

“Temple master, are you alright?” Daoist Qingyuan ran over and asked, “Who was that person who dared to cause trouble in Qingping Temple?”

“He is a former betrayer of Qingping Temple,” said Master Chi Yuan with a darkened expression. That man just now, he was probably the disciple adopted by Chi Zhenzi, showing himself so brazenly at Qingping Temple. Was it to tell him that Chi Zhenzi was still alive, or was it a provocation?

Daoist Qingyuan’s brow furrowed.

“Go check on Wuwei,” Master Chi Yuan walked into the rear hall and quickly came to Wuwei’s side. After examining him, it turned out that he was only afflicted by a simple Soul Scattering Technique, which caused him to fall into a deep sleep.

Daoist Qingyuan was enraged, “This is outrageous, so audacious.”

“Who is being audacious?” Qin Liuxi entered from outside. Seeing the situation, her cool gaze narrowed.
