Chapter 89: The Arrival Of The Middle-Ranked Tribes [Part 2]
As everyone waited for what would happen next, another representative shared his thoughts on the topic.
"I also think that the tribute is not enough," Theron, the representative of the Grimfang Tribe, commented. "But instead of taking all the Raptors we saw on the way here, I’ll be fine with each tribe being given one. How about it? I’m pretty generous, right?"
"Well, I do agree it’s not enough." Silas, the representative of the Ironhide Tribe, smiled. "Even if each tribe gets one Raptor each, it won’t be enough. But since I feel merciful today, how about you just give us a few pretty ladies to make us happy?"
Varus laughed after hearing Sylas’ suggestion. The two of them were good friends, so they understood each other’s line of thought.
"Yes, a dozen girls will be enough," Varus said. His gaze shifted towards Yuni, who was being shielded by Leone.
But knowing that she was Ulric’s daughter, he decided it wasn’t worth it to antagonize him. Because of that, he shifted his attention toward the next prettiest lady who caught his eye.
He made his move, grabbing the arm of a young lady who happened to be Kael’s granddaughter. She was also the same lady whom the old man had presented to Leone as a bed warmer, which he politely rejected.
Her name was Aria. The moment she was grabbed by Varus, she immediately cried out in panic.
In response, Kael gritted his teeth and took a step forward to plead for his granddaughter’s release. But before he could do anything to save his granddaughter, Leone had already moved and grabbed onto Varus’ arm.
"Let her go," Leone said with barely restrained anger.
Varus chuckled before giving the young man a backhand blow, aimed at his mask, without even a warning.
Leone barely managed to defend himself, and the blow pushed him back. If not for Yuni moving in to catch him, he might have fallen on the ground due to the strength of Varus’ blow.
"It seems you still don’t understand the situation, huh?" Varus sneered. "I’ve tried to be generous, but by doing so, you might think that our Bloodtusk Tribe is a pushover. Ragan! Capture that girl for me!"
Varus pointed at Yuni, and Ragan didn’t hesitate to move to grab her. He had always fantasized about pinning the beautiful woman under his body.
But since Varus wanted her, Ragan decided to play along and have her once the representative got bored of her.
However, before Ragan could even touch Yuni, a hand grabbed his arm, stopping him in place.
"Ulric, are you defying the order of the Bloodtusk Tribe?!" Ragan shouted in anger when he realized that it was Ulric who got in his way.
But rather than an answer, what Ragan got instead was Ulric’s fist that landed directly on his face, breaking his nose.
Gromm and the representatives of the other tribes were shocked by the sudden turn of events.
A moment later, Jason lunged at Varus and punched the side of his face, making him stagger back.
"Y-You dare?!" Varus shouted in anger and disbelief. "Are you mad?!"
But before he could even do anything, the Aslanians led by Lynceus and Rufus pounced at him and let their fists do the talking.
Leone had been kind to them, and seeing him get hurt made all of them attack without thinking about the consequences!
The Aslanians were now Rank 2 Warriors. While they are still weaker than Ulric, they were the second strongest fighting force of the alliance.
After seeing their leader dogpiled, Varus’ subordinates tried to help, unsheathing their weapons in preparation to fight.
However, that was a mistake since not long after they took out their weapons, dozens of spears surrounded them.
"Don’t move," Otto, the new Chieftain of the Black Wolf Tribe, said coldly. "You have all broken the Barbarian Creed. No one may hurt the chieftain of another tribe unless they are at war. We are not at war with the middle-ranked tribes, yet a lowly grunt dared to hurt our chieftain? You must think you’re all above the law, huh?!"
It was only then that the warriors and representatives remembered the rule set by the very first Barbarian King who united all the tribes in the west.
The rules he had set had become the law that all other barbarian tribes followed, especially those who aspired to challenge his position to become the next Barbarian King.
"E-Even so, he is a messenger sent by our tribe!" one of Varus’s subordinates retorted. "Messengers are not allowed to be harmed, even in times of war!"
Otto didn’t reply because the warrior was right. They had laws set in place, so the tribes, especially the low-ranking tribes, would have the bare minimum of rights when facing off against stronger tribes.
While they were talking, Ragan’s shout reached their ears.
"Ahhhhhhh! Stop!" Ragan screamed. "Forgive me! Forgive me, Ulric!"
Ulric didn’t hesitate to break the hand that Ragan used to touch his daughter. A second later, he broke the bastard’s leg, making him collapse on the ground screaming.
As for Varus, he was beaten black and blue as well. Jason also broke the bastard’s right leg, preventing him from running away.
"Y-You bastards! Are you not afraid of our retaliation?!" Varus shouted in anger and humiliation. "I’ll kill you all! Our tribe will kill you all!"
"Is that so?" Leone walked up to Varus, and looked down on him.
He had promised himself that he would endure for the sake of his kingdom. However, the moment Varus looked at Yuni with lustful eyes and grabbed onto Aria against his will, he felt something inside him snap.
He could still remember how Varus and his men surrounded Yuni while she was protecting the members of her tribe. It was very obvious what they planned to do to her once they disarmed her.
A fate that was worse than death.
And remembering that scene, Leone knew that he and Varus couldn’t co-exist under the same sky.
"Jason, he talks too much," Leone said in a voice filled with killing intent. "Cut off his tongue."
"Y-You bastard! You won’t get away with thi—arghhhh!" Varus couldn’t finish whatever he was going to say next because Jason pried his mouth open using brute strength, only to then cut off his tongue just as Leone had ordered him to!
"Stooop!" A warrior from the Bloodtusk Tribe shouted. "If you do this, our tribe will go to war with you! You can’t hurt a messenger!"
"Is that so?" Leone replied with contempt. "Kael, what is the punishment for hurting the chieftain of another tribe without any valid reason? Without them being at war against each other?"
"Death!" Kael didn’t hesitate to mince his words. "Death by Barbarian Law!"
Leone grabbed the spear of Rufus who had moved to his side in order to protect him.
With a roar filled with hate and anger, Leone stabbed Varus’ back. A feat done easily for the Aslanians had pinned him on the ground.
"Arghhhhhhh!" A scream escaped Varus’ bloody lips as Leone pierced him from behind.
However, it didn’t stop there. Leone stabbed him over and over again. Each time he did, a roar escaped his lips as if he had become a wild animal that only wanted to kill.
Deep inside, he knew he couldn’t allow Varus to live.
As long as there was a slim chance that the vision he saw could happen, then Varus needed to die no matter what!
