Chapter 105: The Secret of the Gravity Chamber
Chapter 105: The Secret of the Gravity Chamber
Miss Cynthia?" Genevieve was also clearly taken aback by Cynthia's sudden appearance.
"I have some great news for everyone," Mr. Carter announced. "The school has decided to go all-in and fully support your participation in The Jade State League."
"And that's not all..."
Mr. Carter turned his gaze toward Cynthia. After receiving a subtle nod from her, he continued, "Grandmaster Muse is also willing to guide you and provide some much-needed assistance."
"Are you for real?" Jett gasped, sharply drawing in a breath of cold air.
Just yesterday, he had been completely down in the dumps over failing the trial of The Scroll of Martial Heart-Tempering. And today, he was actually going to receive personal guidance from Grandmaster Muse?
How could such an insane stroke of luck fall into his lap?
"I'm not dreaming, am I?" Jett stared at Cynthia in utter disbelief.
Even in his wildest dreams, he wouldn't have dared to imagine a scenario like this.
"Of course you're not dreaming," Cynthia chuckled softly. "But, if you really want to thank someone, you should be thanking Fly."
"He's the one who convinced my father to step in as your coach for The Jade State League."
The moment those words dropped, Jett's pupils dilated in wild shock. Genevieve's face was painted with absolute astonishment, and even the perpetually haughty 'Emperor' Valerius couldn't hide the look of sheer surprise flashing across his features.
Jett even reached down and gave his own thigh a vicious pinch.
Ouch! That stings!
This really isn't a dream!
This is actually happening!
"Fly... how in the world did you pull that off?" Every Beast Warrior who grew up in Star City had been influenced by Grandmaster Muse to some extent, treating him as either an idol or a legendary milestone to chase. Jett was no exception; he had been a die-hard fan of the Grandmaster since he was a kid.
He knew better than anyone just how many wealthy scions would kill for a single word of advice from Grandmaster Muse, yet always walked away empty-handed.
Rumor had it that someone had once offered the astronomical price of a hundred thousand a lesson, and even that wasn't enough to move the Grandmaster.
Yet Fly, who had merely met Grandmaster Muse once, had somehow managed to directly persuade the man to become their tournament coach.
Wasn't that just a little too absurdly impressive?
When Jett had first heard about the Apprenticeship Contract, he assumed that Grandmaster Muse must have been somewhat dissatisfied with Fly upon meeting him in person. He figured the Grandmaster just felt awkward about going back on his word after personally selecting Fly, so he intentionally set an outrageous condition to force Fly to back down on his own.
But if that were truly the case, there would be absolutely no reason for Grandmaster Muse to step up as their coach now. He could have just left Fly to fend for himself.
When you eliminate all the impossible answers, whatever remains, no matter how unbelievable, must be the truth.
Could it be that Grandmaster Muse genuinely believes Fly can win the championship in The Jade State League?
Jett's mind was reeling, turbulent as a stormy sea, completely unable to settle down.
Just how incredibly highly does Grandmaster Muse think of Fly?
Filled with uncontainable excitement, Jett threw a punch into the air. "This is incredible, Fly! It's Grandmaster Muse! We're saved!"

"No, wait..."
"We really owe this all to you, Fly."
For a moment, Jett was so hyped up he was practically babbling.
But, Mr. Carter's good news didn't stop there.
"You can all follow me to the Gravity Chamber to begin your training right now."
"Additionally, during the preparation period for the League, you are completely excused from all your regular classes."
"The school's leadership had a meeting and decided that you should focus all your time and energy purely on preparing for The Jade State League."
"As for the coursework you'll miss, specialized tutors will be arranged to help you catch up one-on-one later."
As he relayed the news, Mr. Carter's own voice steadily grew more animated.
After all, he had played no small part in making this happen. Upon hearing about the Apprenticeship Contract, he had gone straight to Dean Sterling, rallied all the homeroom teachers of the freshman year, and even dragged Principal Selene Penn along to petition The Board of Directors.
If not for that, Fly wouldn't have had the chance to demonstrate his strength in front of the Directors, and Grand Elder Alden wouldn't have been able to definitively set the tone, demanding that the school fully back Fly's team for The Jade State League.
Mr. Carter couldn't help but mentally pat himself on the back for a job well done.
"That's Mr. Carter for you!" Fly, tactful as always, shot his homeroom teacher an appreciative thumbs-up.
"Alright, follow me." Mr. Carter nodded with smug satisfaction before leading Fly and the others in the direction of the Gravity Chamber.
The Gravity Chamber was a facility that required formal application to use. Normally, quite a few upperclassmen could be found training inside.
Taking that into account, Mr. Carter chose to strike while the iron was hot. Seizing the early hour while the facility was still relatively empty, he brought Fly's group straight over.
Cynthia, mentioning she had other matters to attend to, parted ways with them for now. She instructed Fly and the team to get acquainted with the Gravity Chamber first, and to contact her once they were settled in.
It didn't take long for the group to arrive at Star City High's Gravity Chamber. It was a four-story building nestled in the southwest corner of the campus, connected to the main academic area. It was usually quite peaceful around here, with only a handful of training-obsessed students regularly coming and going.
"Morning, Mr. Ross." After signaling for Fly and the others to wait off to the side, Mr. Carter stepped forward to greet the elderly gatekeeper.
"Oh? Mr. Carter, what brings you here so early today?" Seeing him, a kindly smile blossomed across Mr. Ross's face.
"Just prepping for The Jade State League, you know."
"You know as well as I do that the quality of this year's freshmen is simply outstanding. We've got three students with Mythical Species Beast Totems alone, and another one who was just taken in as a personal disciple by Grandmaster Muse."
"You might not believe me when I say this, but I actually think we might snatch the championship this time around."
Mr. Carter chuckled as he spoke, looking for all the world like a kid who had just gotten his hands on an incredibly rare toy and was eagerly showing it off to anyone who would listen.
Seeing this, Fly and the others tactfully stepped forward to greet Old Man Ross as well.
"Oh, oh! I know you."
However, to Fly's surprise, the moment he offered his greeting, the elderly gatekeeper beamed with joy and pointed a finger right at him.
"You're the student from that short video! The one who practically single-handedly crushed Ironpeak Academy at the Freshman Invitational and brought the championship trophy home to Star City High, right?"
"I never thought I'd get to meet you in the flesh today!"
Old Man Ross grew more and more delighted as he spoke. He then whipped out his phone and warmly asked if he could take a photo with Fly.
"My grandkid is a massive fan of yours. Would you mind taking a picture with me? I'd love to show it to him when I get home to make his day."
"Uh, well..." Although Fly didn't exactly mind this sort of overly friendly approach, he wasn't a celebrity or a public figure by any stretch of the imagination. Dealing with this kind of sudden attention made him feel more than a little awkward.
Still, awkwardness aside, Fly could genuinely feel Old Man Ross's enthusiasm.
Maybe Old Man Ross isn't really that much of a fan himself. He probably just wants to have something cool to talk about with his grandkid... Fly mused inwardly.
And so, he stood next to Old Man Ross and humored him for a few photos.
"Right then, you kids are here to use the Gravity Chamber, aren't you?" Old Man Ross chuckled mischievously. "Let me let you in on a little secret. The school recently opened up a few new Gravity Chambers, built with the absolute latest tech and the highest specifications."
"Come on, I'll take you there. The training efficiency is leaps and bounds better than the old ones."
Mr. Carter couldn't help but blink in surprise. He was the homeroom teacher of the freshman Rocket Class, for crying out loud. How come he hadn't heard a single peep about the school opening new Gravity Chambers?
What had started as just a simple exchange of pleasantries had unexpectedly yielded a massive windfall.
Seeing Mr. Carter's baffled expression, Old Man Ross let out a hearty laugh. "Of course you wouldn't know! You teachers aren't the ones in charge of renovations, are you?"
"Besides, these new Gravity Chambers weren't commissioned by the school leadership. They were specifically requested by the kids in the Student Council. That's why there was never a campus-wide announcement."
"Only an old gatekeeper like me, watching the doors day in and day out, would catch wind of something like this."
Old Man Ross explained with a wink.
Hearing this, a flicker of surprise flashed across Fly's eyes.
This Student Council...
They actually wield that kind of authority?
