Chapter 53 The Strange Things About the Church
Chapter 53 The Strange Things About the Church
The baptism ceremony was not located too far from the entrance.
About one-fifth of the way up the stairs, they reached the corner where the ceremony would take place.
The two walked around the corner and along a short path through the woods until they came to a magnificent church.
This church is more than twice the size of the abandoned church where Su Tu disguised himself as a human.
Judging from its height, it is at least 50 meters high.
If you include the towering cross on the top of the church, it would probably be about 10 meters taller.
Even though Su Tu had seen it more than once, seeing it again still stirred up some emotions in his heart.
The church is really rich and powerful; sometimes their churches are even more luxurious than royal palaces.
Since Su Tu had been there four times and was quite familiar with the route, he inexplicably became Eve's tour guide.
This is the sacred site of the empire, and Eve, as an imperial princess, has naturally visited it.
The church here could be considered their core headquarters.
Even though Eve is a princess, she cannot enter this church unless there is something very important to discuss.
So she had indeed seen the cathedral, but she wasn't familiar with the interior.
This is also why she silently followed behind Su Tu.
Of course, even without Su Tu, someone would have been there to guide her to the place where the ceremony would take place at the cathedral entrance.
However, compared to those strange church members, she felt more at ease with Su Tu, who was a calamity.
The two arrived at the entrance of the pristine white cathedral and immediately saw two rows of people standing on either side of the entrance.
They were dressed in white priestly robes with hoods, their heads slightly lowered so as not to look directly at Su Tu and his companion.
As the two passed by these people, they could vaguely hear them muttering something to themselves.
Su Tu didn't know the specifics, nor could he understand their obscure language.
This situation caused Su Tu to frown slightly.
According to the original owner's memories, this situation did not occur during the previous baptism ceremonies held here.
Usually, a few church members dressed in black robes wait at the door.
When they see people arriving, they will go forward and lead them to the designated location to wait for the baptism ceremony to begin.
But now, why has the black robe turned into a white robe, and why is he bowing his head and chanting obscure and difficult incantations?
Su Tu was puzzled and glanced at Eve beside him without showing any emotion, wanting to see how she would react.
She was an imperial princess, and she certainly knew far more than he, who had been confined to his room for many years.
Upon seeing the strange expression on Eve's face, Su Tu knew that his guess was correct.
Eve must know something about the current situation.
However, there were too many people around, so Su Tu planned to find an opportunity to be alone with the two of them and try to get more information out of them.
Just as Su Tu was pondering, a person dressed in a black priest's robe walked out of the church and stopped in front of Su Tu and his companion.
"Your Highness, Mr. Su Tu, I will now lead you to the place where the baptism ceremony will take place."
The church member in front of him had been keeping his head down since he appeared, making it impossible for Su Tu to see his face clearly.
However, his slightly aged voice also gave a rough idea of the church member's age.
The only thing that puzzled Su Tu was why the old man was wearing a black robe, while the members standing on either side were wearing white robes.
Before Su Tu could figure it out, the old man in black robes who had just come out turned around and went into the church first.
Seeing this, the two could only follow behind each other and go inside together.
In this church, neither Su Tu's status as the second son of a duke nor Eve's status as a princess seemed to have any effect.
They walked behind the white priests, not surrounded by many people, nor did they feel any respect from the old man.
However, neither of them reacted much to this.
Su Tu was already used to being alone, while Eve understood that her status as a princess was useless in the church.
Not to mention that the two of them are now entering the church as victims of calamity, to receive baptism.
The church was not dark; it was very bright.
Sunlight streamed into the church through the huge glass windows on both sides of the main hall.
Unlike the churches Su Tu had seen, the hall on the first floor did not have rows of chairs.
It was very spacious, with no unnecessary decorations, and you could see the entire hall at a glance.
At the far end of the hall stands a huge stone statue.
She held a flower in both hands against her chest, her head slightly lowered, as if she were praying for something.
If there are no surprises, this stone statue should be the church's goddess of hope—Erbius.
However, according to my previous memory, the baptism ceremony was not held in the church hall.
So Su Tu only glanced at the stone statue and didn't pay much attention to it, following the old man towards the passage at the end.
Not far from the corner of the passage, there is a staircase leading underground.
The baptism ceremony takes place at the end of this staircase.
Like the Aishir Treasure, the top of the stairs leads to a huge underground palace.
However, there was no stone coffin inside the palace; it was completely empty.
"Mr. Su Tu, Princess Eve, due to some special reasons, this year's christening ceremony will have to wait until everyone arrives before taking place."
After leading the two to the underground palace, the old man in black robes turned to them and spoke slowly.
Upon hearing this, both Su Tu and Eve visibly furrowed their brows slightly.
The two were genuinely puzzled about having their baptisms together this year.
According to Su Tu's memory, the baptism ceremony in previous years was always conducted separately.
No one else is allowed to be present when one person is performing the ceremony.
But things changed this year, and with the two rows of white-robed church members at the entrance, he felt something was off.
It seems that the church members are hiding something.
Fortunately, Su Tu came to this baptism ceremony this year with a purpose.
It would be very beneficial for him to undergo a baptism of all calamities at the same time.
At least you can see all the people who are performing the ceremony at once.
As for the reason Eve frowned, it was different from Su Tu's.
This was her first time attending a baptism ceremony, and she was unaware of the members in black robes.
However, she was aware that the ceremony was conducted separately.
Before she arrived, her father had already sent someone to inform her of the entire process of the ceremony.
But what is happening now is different from the description given by my father.
Of course, despite their doubts, neither of them said anything.
On the surface, both of them nodded slightly, indicating that they understood.
Seeing this, the old man nodded slightly in response, and then continued speaking:
"To ensure everyone's identity is kept confidential, I will create a fog later, so don't worry."
After saying this, he turned and left with Eve to greet the next person who would come.
Not long after the two of them left, a thin mist began to spread throughout the underground palace.
The field of vision gradually became blurred, and visibility was reduced to less than one meter.
I could barely see my own five fingers when I reached out.
This was bad news for Su Tu.
