My husband Can Cultivate

Chapter 472 - : Want Money? Or Your Life?

"Why are you here?" Yang Qi asked coldly.

"I know you don’t like me, but my grandfather insisted I come. He heard you were going to Three Prefectures Town and knew you’d never been, so he specifically sent me to be your guide," Chen Baixiang explained.

"You’ve been to Three Prefectures Town?" Yang Qi was somewhat surprised.

"Of course. Although the town is much better than it used to be, it’s still a place where all sorts of people congregate, so it’s very dangerous. Don’t flaunt your money or treasures, or you could get yourself killed. Look at me, I even changed into ordinary sportswear and didn’t bring any of my valuable jewelry," Chen Baixiang said.

"I don’t have anything valuable." If I did, it would be hidden in the Mountain and River Map where no one could see it anyway.

Still, Yang Qi glanced at Chen Baixiang and said, "You might as well smear some soot on your face, too."

"Hehe, Mr. Yang, you have such a roundabout way of giving compliments. I admit I’m a little pretty, but aside from some sunscreen, this is my natural face. Not too bad, right?" Chen Baixiang chuckled, pleased with herself. She knew what her grandfather was thinking. Even if she couldn’t earn Yang Qi’s favor, she at least had to resolve his dislike for her.

"Of course, while this place is chaotic, there are also many great things here. I guarantee it will be a dazzling experience for you, Mr. Yang!" Chen Baixiang said excitedly. "Grandfather said you were looking for herbs over a hundred years old. There are plenty of them here. I promise it will be a feast for your eyes!"

"That’s great!" Yang Qi was pleased. After all, medicinal herbs were the scarcest and most needed resource for immortal cultivation. He now considered himself a rich man, too, having earned quite a bit from swindling the Hanfang Association.

"Also, Mr. Yang, my grandfather told me that in a place like Three Prefectures Town, you can’t be too kind. Excessive pity will only land you in difficult situations. There are too many con artists and too many people who don’t deserve sympathy. You have to remember that!" Chen Baixiang continued, "The people there don’t listen to reason. They worship force!"

"Is that so?" Yang Qi smiled. "Don’t worry. I’m no Saint, nor am I some naive young man new to the world. I know what to get involved in and what to leave alone."

"That’s good!" Chen Baixiang smiled.

Yang Qi wanted to stay alive to see Lin Qingxuan again, marry her, and grow old with her. It wouldn’t be worth it to get himself killed over some misplaced pity.

Next, Chen Baixiang told Yang Qi many other things. For instance, the current City Lord of Three Prefectures Town was a man named Jin Zizhen. It was this very Jin Zizhen who had brought order to the entire town twenty years ago and had been its ruler ever since. The legendary tales about him in Three Prefectures Town were so numerous they couldn’t be told in three days and three nights.

While they were chatting, the high-speed train arrived at the station. However, this station, despite being named Three Prefectures Town Station, was actually several miles from the town proper.

Yang Qi hailed a taxi, and he and Chen Baixiang headed toward Three Prefectures Town. Along the way, however, something happened. The taxi driver dropped them off on the side of the road. There was only a single asphalt road flanked by dense forests. Then, several cars blocked their path.

"What do you all want?" Yang Qi asked nonchalantly as he got out of the car.

"Heh, looks like we’ve got some fool who’s never been to Three Prefectures Town before! Don’t you know you have to pay a toll to enter safely?" a man with a large beard said, stepping out of an SUV while puffing on a cigar.

"We know, we know! How much?" Chen Baixiang said hurriedly. Her grandfather had told her that this stretch of road before the town was the most difficult and that it was easy to run into trouble. She couldn’t believe they had run into it on their very first visit. What awful luck.

"One hundred thousand!" the bearded man declared.

"Heh. And how much do you think your lives are worth?" Yang Qi asked with a smirk, chewing on a piece of gum.

"Huh?"

Before the bearded man could even react, Yang Qi moved, darting forward like a phantom.

BANG!

BANG!

BANG!

In just over ten seconds, more than a dozen men were sprawled on the ground, foaming at the mouth and looking utterly pathetic.

Yang Qi dusted off his clothes. "Time to pay for your lives. One hundred thousand per person. For this group... I won’t ask for too much. Just give me a million. If the money is here within ten minutes, I might spare you!" He sat on the roof of the taxi and said this with a grin.

"We’ll pay! We’ll pay!" the bearded man cried out.

We’ve really messed with a tough one this time, he thought. It’s not like we’ve encountered powerful people before, but you can usually tell who they are. Yang Qi is different. He’s just a twenty-five-year-old kid with a woman. He doesn’t look like someone who could take us all out. Too bad we still ended up in this mess.

The bearded man knew very well that in a situation like this, he had to pay up quickly; otherwise, death wouldn’t be far behind. He could clearly feel the terrifying killing intent radiating from Yang Qi. It was like looking at a Demon, absolutely horrifying.

"I’m commandeering this vehicle!" Yang Qi declared, grabbing the keys to an SUV and heading toward Three Prefectures Town.

However, just as they were about to enter the urban area, more trouble arrived. This time, there were even more people. And leading them was the very same bearded man.

"Looks like you didn’t learn your lesson," Yang Qi said with a smile. He closed the car door and told Chen Baixiang, "Close your eyes and don’t look at anything. It’ll be over soon."

A convoy of a dozen cars and nearly a hundred people quickly surrounded Yang Qi’s vehicle—far more than before.

"Kid, you dare to steal from us? You must have a death wish! You could have walked away alive for one hundred thousand, but now you’ll have to pay with your life!" the bearded man roared, glaring venomously at Yang Qi.

"How despicable," Yang Qi said, shaking his head. "But in the end, you’re just a bunch of clueless ants. What a pity."

At that moment, another group of cars could be seen driving toward Three Prefectures Town, paying no attention to the confrontation.

Is that someone I know? Yang Qi’s eyes narrowed. He recognized someone in that convoy: the woman who had acted as the matchmaker between him and Li Qiutong. She had taken a sum of money and vanished. He never expected to run into her here.

"It’s a shame about that beautiful woman. She’s going to die with some fool who doesn’t know his own limits," a man in one of the passing SUVs said with disdain. There were five people in his vehicle.

"I recognize that guy," said Jiang Shan, casually painting her nails as if she were watching a funny show. "He’s the owner of a pharmaceutical company in Kang City, pretty wealthy. I really don’t get it. All he had to do was pay to avoid disaster. Why on earth would he provoke those lunatics? They have plenty of blood on their hands."

"Yeah, I don’t get idiots like that. Is he trying to be a hero?"

Laughter erupted from the vehicle as they drove into Three Prefectures Town.
