Chapter 318 318: Short update

Chapter 318 318: Short update

I've continued to skip daily updates in favor of editing the previous chapters. Thank you to everyone who's been reading them so far. I have wanted to just drop the book but doing so without completing the whisperwind arc feels disrespectful, so I will continue until I have no more ideas for the story--I thought I could handle it, but as an author my ambitions are large and my skills aren't good enough to carry it yet.

However, to build my skills I have to finish things, so I will try my best. Thank you for being curious enough about the story to engage with it so far, even if it's imperfect.

I can't upload anything less than 1,000 words for premium users, so I'll just talk about the changes that have happened, for people who are curious:

The rewriting happened because people were asking for more in Whisperwind and wondered why it was so quick. I thought people would be bored if I stayed in one place for too long.

So I concentrated on writing more of Whisperwind instead of walking forward and just improving for the next book. At this point I've also been returning to art and streaming, so I let my mind wander for the chapters.

Having languages in Savoria made sense at the time, especially since there were beastmen and women. To make things simpler I only kept it to a few words, and Marron knows Common tongue. I hope it feels more real now.

I was surprised when people kept reading the story and my edits, and kept asking me to continue because the whisperwind arc was jarring if you were reading right up to where my edits ended.

For now I've completed up to chapter 17, and we have a bit more to go until then.

After that I think I will leave the story much of the same, because I *really* don't want to rewrite more than 300+ chapters.

I want to write full-time as an author, and this book has treated me better than my first book. But I also want to more forward and try writing something else.

However, I think it would be smarter to end this book before I get wrapped up in another project and lose steam for this all together.

Back to talking about the arc.

+

Whisperwind and Snakewater Cove will still happen, but I've filled out more chapters and hopefully gave you an understanding of the world. I think moving forward, if people really want to learn more about a specific arc, I will just write side stories for them.

Mostly I've been saving my previous chapters before I replace them, so they won't completely disappear.

With how the world has been so far, I forgot how nice it was to have an escape--to have a world I could control.

By the time I upload this, I would have updated chapter 18 now. Thank you to everyone who has interacted and shown me that there *is* interest in food-centric stories. I really enjoy writing about recipes, even if I haven't cooked them myself.

I have a very small box of recipes I can make, and Marron's early journey reflects that.

The changes have been small but meaningful, I hope. I even added a chapter about a spider tailor named Ariadne who will give Marron new clothes--because looking back, i really did just have one thought in mind, and that was editing the current chapters (prior to making them premium)

Moving forward, I think I will do the same thing--give a longer list of free chapters before I get to the premium stuff. I still have a long way to go with making satisfying hooks but similar to art, I need to finish things to get better at them :')

(and yes I am padding this out to 1000 words so I can at least post it xD)

I think I'll come back once I create a world I am excited about (and know it can carry for awhile. I wrote this without having a full grasp of what Savoria was like, and wish I thought about it more before writing this whole story on a whim.)

For now, I'm glad people have enjoyed my story enough to be curious and add it to their collections, or actually read it and leave comments. I hope to do better next time (I'm actively reading more webnovels in the FL genre, maybe I will try that? Or jump back into ML but have a different focus this time? Depends. I'll definitely listen to more system and isekai stuff before I jump back inside the genre though!

From what I discovered it's a fun genre to write in, but needs quite a bit of preparation before the writing begins. I don't have any regrets choosing to write food books though. In my heart I want to write another one, but maybe add a romance or friendship aspect down the line?

I wanted to write a book that is firmly grounded in food and the other things take second seat, but after writing more than 400 chapters I understand why people mix those in too. (also it is annoying how initially my desire was to write the everyday happenings of a chef and it evolved into saving the world, again xD)

I will just immerse myself deeper in the genres that Webnovel readers do like and see what I can do about it (I still enjoy food novels...but I need to adapt them to suit myself too.) I think that's one of the hardest things to do as an author.

But I will persevere, because it's all I know how to do. My writing will take a backseat because streaming and art are my only income at the moment, but the second I manage to build a story that interests me, I will start a new one.

As a reader, I also don't feel good when I read something and the author hasn't updated it, or informed you that they have officially dropped it. So I will try to give my characters (and you) closure before moving toward the next thing.

But for now, thank you for reading into my imperfect world as I try to navigate through it. Creating content in other ways has shown me that there is more value in finishing things than just planning endlessly. And I would like to realize it while I still have time.
