My five ghostly husbands

Chapter 467

Chapter 467

"Do you remember the new house rituals, wife?" Julian asked with a teasing smile, his tone light and warm.

Ruby chuckled softly. "Of course I do. The house owner has to wait until the wind blows. It means the house spirit has accepted you," she said, her eyes glimmering with amusement.

Karl burst into laughter. "Oh, I remember how long you waited for the wind last time in our old house! You looked so tired you were about to fall!"

Everyone joined in laughing—Angeline and her husband, Pillu, and even Kaelan’s parents, who had come to celebrate the completion of their new home. The yard was filled with laughter, the pink tree petals swirling gently around them.

Ruby smiled and walked to the front steps, sitting gracefully as the breeze around her stayed still. Minutes turned into an hour, and still, no wind came. Karl kept pacing dramatically. "Maybe the spirit’s shy," he muttered.

"Maybe it’s testing your patience," Adrian said dryly.

Ruby sighed with a playful smile. "Then I’ll wait as long as it takes."

Almost an hour and a half later, just as everyone began teasing her to give up, a soft gust of wind rolled through the garden. It brushed against Ruby’s hair, carrying the scent of the pink blossoms.

"Ah!" Karl shouted, his eyes lighting up. "The wind! The spirit accepted us!"

Everyone burst into cheerful claps and laughter. Ruby stood up with a relieved smile, her hair dancing in the wind. "Finally," she said with a happy sigh.

After that, they all moved inside, where Julian prepared for the second ritual—the offering of the nine candles.

He carefully placed nine candles on the altar table in the main hall, their golden light flickering beautifully. "The nine candles represent warmth, protection, clarity, peace, dreams, wisdom, health, and patience," Julian explained. "If any of them extinguish on their own, it means the house spirit is dissatisfied."

Ruby nodded, her heart filled with both excitement and a hint of nervousness. She remembered how, in their old house, the candles for Health and Peace had kept going out no matter how many times they relit them.

Kaelan stepped forward, holding the long matchstick. His movements were calm and graceful as he lit each candle one by one. The faint golden light filled the air with a warm glow. Everyone gathered around silently, watching closely.

Ruby clasped her hands together. The flames flickered gently, steady and bright. But then, her heart skipped a beat when she saw the Peace candle tremble and nearly go out.

"Oh no..." Milo whispered softly, his hands tightening around his robe.

But before anyone could react, the flame suddenly flared back to life—stronger than before, shining brightly as if declaring victory.

A soft gasp went through the crowd, followed by cheers.

"See?" Karl said proudly, puffing out his chest. "Even the spirits can’t say no to our wife!"

Everyone laughed, clapping their hands as Ruby smiled with visible relief. The nine candles burned brightly and steadily, their warm light filling the entire room with peace and calm.

"It means the house spirit is satisfied," Julian said with a gentle smile.

Ruby turned slowly, looking around at her family—Kaelan’s proud smile, Karl’s happy face, Adrian’s quiet contentment, Milo’s sparkling eyes, and Julian’s calm warmth. The air around them felt alive, full of warmth and belonging.

"Welcome home," Kaelan whispered softly beside her.

Ruby smiled, her eyes glistening as she nodded. "Welcome home," she echoed.

Everyone clapped again, the laughter and happiness echoing through their beautiful new house—bright candles, soft petals, and a family finally complete.

It was evening when Julian went inside the house alone to look around carefully.

The sky outside had turned golden-red, and soft light poured through the tall windows, painting the marble floor in warm shades. The air smelled faintly of flowers and wood—the kind of scent that made a house feel alive.

Julian walked through the main hall, his footsteps echoing softly. The hall looked grand yet peaceful. Cream curtains swayed gently with the wind, and the chandelier above glimmered faintly in the dim light. A large painting hung on the wall—a family portrait painted by Milo. Ruby had kept it there, right where everyone could see it first.

He smiled a little as his eyes moved across the room. The furniture was simple but elegant—soft cream sofas, a polished table, and small flower pots placed neatly near the corners. Everything here carried Ruby’s calm and warmth.

He went further inside, reaching the dining room. The long table was already set with plates and vases filled with fresh blossoms. Through the wide window, he could see the garden outside, glowing under the sunset. The pink petals from the trees drifted down slowly, landing on the grass like soft snow.

Julian took a slow breath. The place already felt full of life.

He turned toward the kitchen, where clean jars lined the shelves. The faint smell of tea and cinnamon lingered, and he could almost imagine Karl and Milo talking here while cooking together.

He climbed the stairs next. The wooden steps creaked lightly under his feet. Upstairs, the hallway was warm and filled with golden light.

He stopped at Ruby’s room first. The door was slightly open. Inside, the evening light fell gently on her writing desk, where a vase of flowers stood beside her open notebook. The bed was tidy, the curtains half-drawn, and the air carried her faint perfume mixed with the scent of petals from outside.

Julian smiled quietly. "She really built something special," he murmured.

He checked each of the rooms one by one—Karl’s room filled with acting notes and costumes, Milo’s full of colorful paintings, Adrian’s neatly organized with books and files, and Kaelan’s, where sketches and script papers covered the desk.

Lastly, Julian walked to the healing room Ruby had made for him. The shelves were already arranged with bottles and herbs. A soft glow from the window touched the table at the center, and for a moment, he just stood there in silence.

The house was peaceful, bright, and full of warmth. It didn’t just feel like a home—it felt like a promise of calm days ahead.

Julian smiled faintly and whispered, "Wife has made this house perfect."

"Do you like it?" a soft voice asked from behind, followed by the gentle weight of arms wrapping around his waist.

Julian turned slightly, a faint smile already forming on his lips when he realized who it was. "Wife..." he whispered, his voice warm and quiet.

Ruby rested her chin lightly against his shoulder, her breath brushing his neck. "You were walking around for so long," she said softly. "I thought maybe you didn’t like it."

Julian chuckled under his breath. "Like it?" he murmured, turning a little more toward her. "I love it. Every corner feels like you." His words were simple, but the way he said them carried the kind of warmth that made Ruby’s heart flutter.

She smiled and looked up at him, then blinked in surprise. "Wait..." she said softly, standing on her toes a little. "You’ve grown taller, haven’t you?"

Julian’s eyes glimmered in the dim light. "Hmm," he hummed teasingly, lowering his head slightly so their faces were close. "Maybe I did... or maybe you’ve just gotten smaller."

Ruby laughed quietly, the sound soft and sweet, echoing in the peaceful evening air. "Oh really?" she said, pretending to glare at him.

"Really," he said back, his voice almost a whisper now.

For a moment, they stood there in the golden light seeping through the window—the soft wind from the garden carrying the scent of flowers inside. Julian slowly turned in her arms, wrapping his own around her shoulders. Their eyes met, calm and close, and neither of them spoke for a long while.

"I’m proud of you," Julian finally said, his forehead resting gently against hers. "This house... everything. You built it all."

Ruby’s fingers brushed against his cheek. "I didn’t build it alone," she said softly. "You were with me... all of you were."

Julian smiled and kissed her forehead tenderly. "Then let’s stay here... all of us. Forever."

Ruby’s lips curved into a gentle smile as she leaned closer. The sunset bathed them in warm light, and outside, the pink petals swayed in the wind like a silent blessing.
