Chapter 465
Chapter 465
Half a year later, Ruby’s dream building was finally complete. Her new office stood at the top floor—a wide, bright space with tall glass windows that opened to the view of the village. The walls were minimal, painted in soft cream, with elegant plants and bookshelves that gave the room a calm, welcoming air. The golden red evening light spilled in through the glass, wrapping everything in a gentle glow.
Ruby sat at her desk, reading over a few reports. The office was quiet; everyone had already gone home for the day. The silence was peaceful. She stretched a little and reached for her cup of tea when she heard a knock at the door.
"Come in," she said without looking up.
The door opened, and when she glanced up, she saw Adrian standing there. He had his usual calm expression, his robe slightly loose, the faint tiredness in his eyes softened by the light from the window.
"Hey," he said, stepping closer.
Ruby smiled faintly. "You’re still here? I thought everyone had left already."
He stopped in front of her desk, a faint smirk touching his lips. "Well, I’m not an employee," he said in his low, teasing tone. "I’m your husband."
Ruby raised an eyebrow at him, amused. "Oh really? And what brings my husband to my office so late?"
Instead of answering, Adrian leaned down, resting his hands on the edge of her desk, his face close enough that she could see the small tired lines near his eyes. "To remind you to rest," he murmured softly. "You’ve been working nonstop again."
Ruby smiled at him, warmth spreading through her chest. "You always say that."
"Because you never listen," he said gently. He reached out and tucked a strand of hair behind her ear, his touch careful, protective. "You deserve to rest sometimes."
She looked up at him, her heart softening. "And what about you? You’ve been with me through everything, working beside me every day."
He smiled quietly. "Then maybe we both deserve a break."
The air between them grew quiet but full of warmth. Ruby rose slowly from her chair, her eyes locked with his. Adrian’s arms wrapped around her shoulders, pulling her close, his heartbeat steady against her chest.
Without another word, he leaned down and kissed her. The touch was gentle at first, then deepened as if he couldn’t hold back anymore. Ruby’s fingers slid into his hair, holding him there, her breath catching as she let him take control.
Later that evening, Adrian leaned back in her executive chair looking completely satisfied, while Ruby rolled her eyes at him with a faint smile as she straightened her desk. She gathered the scattered files, switched off her computer, and sighed softly. "Let’s go home. Everyone’s probably waiting for us," she said, her tone half playful, half tired.
"Fine," Adrian said, standing up, his usual calm confidence slipping back into place. He followed her out of the office, and together they stepped into the cool evening air.
When they reached home, Ruby didn’t even get a chance to take off her shoes before a familiar figure came running toward her. "Wife!" Milo’s bright voice filled the hall. He wrapped his arms around her tightly, burying his face in her neck. Ruby smiled and gently patted his soft hair. "Milo, I missed you too," she said warmly.
Kaelan and Karl were sprawled on the couch, the Soulstream TV flickering in front of them. Kaelan looked up first and gave her a knowing wink that made Ruby chuckle softly. Karl, on the other hand, was far too focused on his show to notice anything. His eyes were wide, completely absorbed in whatever drama was playing on screen.
"Wife, this episode is insane!" Karl finally said without looking away. "If they end it on a cliffhanger again, I swear I’ll—"
Ruby laughed under her breath and shook her head. "I see some things never change."
Milo tugged her sleeve eagerly. "Come, wife! I made something new! You have to see!"
"Alright, alright," Ruby said, letting him pull her along. He led her straight to his room, where canvases leaned against the walls and the faint smell of paint filled the air.
"Look!" Milo said proudly, pointing at his newest painting on the easel. It was a bright, beautiful landscape with glowing skies and tiny floating lanterns.
Ruby’s eyes softened. "Milo... it’s beautiful," she said sincerely, brushing her fingers lightly over the edge of the frame.
Behind them, Adrian’s voice drifted faintly from down the hallway. "I’m going to change," he said casually before disappearing into their room.
Ruby smiled, looking at Milo again. "You’ve gotten so much better, sweetheart. Every painting you make feels more alive."
Milo’s cheeks flushed pink. "Because you always say nice things, wife," he said shyly, and Ruby couldn’t help but hug him again, her heart feeling full after a long day.
Ruby had already told them everything—how she had transmigrated from the modern world into this one. At first, none of them spoke, their faces frozen in disbelief. Karl had nearly dropped the snack bowl from his hands, his mouth hanging open. Adrian had stared at her quietly, trying to connect every strange event from the past months. Julian had simply blinked several times, his calm face shifting into gentle confusion. And Kaelan was looking shocked.
"You mean... you came from another world?" Karl finally said, his voice almost trembling. "Like those stories on Soulstream?"
Ruby nodded with a small smile. "Yes. I don’t know how it happened, but that’s the truth."
Milo’s eyes had gone round as moons. "So your world... doesn’t have ghosts or witches?" he asked, leaning closer with childlike wonder.
Ruby chuckled softly. "No. Just humans, machines, and... a lot of noise."
Karl gasped dramatically. "No ghosts? No witches? No magic?? How boring!" He sat back on the couch, fanning himself. "Wife, you must’ve suffered!"
Julian smiled faintly at that, shaking his head. "She built her own world there too, I’m sure," he said warmly.
After that night, everyone began asking questions whenever they could. Karl wanted to know what humans did for fun, Milo wanted to know if people could really fly on machines, and Kaelan was quietly curious about human art and how their films were made.
But Milo... Milo had been the most affected. The thought of Ruby living under a different sky, surrounded by machines and city lights, had stayed in his heart for days. One evening, while everyone was busy, he set up his easel by the window and began to paint. The night outside was calm, but in his painting, the sky was alive—filled with stars shaped like tiny lamps, city lights glowing like fireflies, and a strange, deep blue that made you feel both lost and safe.
When he showed it to Ruby, she froze. "Milo... this is the night sky of my world," she whispered, her eyes glistening.
He smiled shyly. "I imagined it," he said softly.
That painting became his most loved work. When it was displayed at the gallery, it caught everyone’s attention. Collectors came from far cities, calling it The Sky Between Two Worlds. It sold for a huge price, and soon Milo’s name was being mentioned everywhere.
The house filled with joy that week. Ruby had hugged Milo tightly, Karl had danced around the living room shouting that they should all "retire rich," and even Adrian had allowed himself a rare, proud smile.
Meanwhile, Julian’s path was changing too. He had received his formal letter of admission from the Healers’ Academy. Next month, he would begin his education to become a certified doctor—a goal that made Ruby’s eyes sparkle with pride.
As the days passed, life at home felt peaceful yet alive. Everyone was growing, building their own dreams.
