My five ghostly husbands

Chapter 463

Chapter 463

Adrian sighed, pinching the bridge of his nose. "If everyone stays beside her, what’s the point of separate rooms?"

Karl blinked and pointed at him. "To make it look fair, obviously!"

Julian let out a quiet laugh. "Fair? You mean crowded," he said.

Milo tilted his head innocently. "Then maybe we can make one big room and all sleep together?"

Ruby gave him a patient smile. "Milo, that’s just our current house."

Karl gasped dramatically. "Then what’s the point of building a new one, wife?!"

Ruby rolled her eyes, trying not to laugh. "Because I want space to breathe, Karl. You take all the air in the room when you talk too much."

Everyone burst out laughing except Karl, who looked betrayed. "Wife! My words are precious!"

Adrian muttered under his breath, "That’s one way to describe noise pollution."

Ruby chuckled softly as Karl glared at Adrian, Milo giggled behind his sleeve, and Julian just smiled with quiet amusement.

Kaelan, who had been quietly watching their playful argument, finally spoke, his tone calm and thoughtful. "How about this," he said with a small smile. "We make one big hall in the center with everyone’s rooms around it. That way, no one feels left out, and wife can see everyone whenever she wants."

Everyone turned to look at him, blinking in surprise.

Karl’s eyes widened. "Wait, that actually sounds perfect!" he said, pointing at Kaelan dramatically. "Brother Kai, you’re a genius! A pretty genius!"

Milo’s eyes sparkled. "Yes! We can all eat and talk together in the hall every day!" he said happily, already imagining it.

Julian nodded approvingly. "That’s a good idea. It keeps us close but still gives everyone space."

Adrian glanced at Kaelan with a rare smile. "Practical and balanced. I like it."

Ruby looked at Kaelan warmly, her lips curving into a soft smile. "That’s a lovely idea, Kaelan. It sounds like a real home."

Kaelan’s ears turned faintly red at her words, but he smiled shyly. "I just thought... if we’re building a home, it should be one where everyone feels together. Not just a house full of rooms."

Karl leaned over with a teasing grin. "Ahhh, so romantic and wise! Wife, we should make him chief of design!"

Ruby laughed, shaking her head. "Fine, he can help with the plans, but you’ll all be helping with the work too."

The room filled with laughter again.

"It’s late, guys. Everyone should retire to their rooms," Ruby said with a tired yawn, rubbing her eyes. Everyone nodded, and one by one they began heading off—Karl grumbling softly, Milo half-asleep and clinging to Julian’s sleeve, and Adrian reminding them to lock the door before going.

Ruby stretched her arms and turned toward Kaelan. "Come on," she said softly. He nodded and followed her inside her room.

Kaelan glanced around once they entered. The room was cozy, small, warm, and filled with a soft scent of lavender. He went to the common bathroom to change his clothes, running his hand through his hair as he looked at himself in the mirror. Compared to the large, grand rooms he had lived in all his life, this little house felt so different. Yet somehow, it also felt more alive, more peaceful. Since I’m her husband now, he thought, I want to grow beside her too... build everything together.

When he came back to the room, Ruby was sitting on the bed, brushing her hair, her face glowing faintly in the soft light. She looked up as he walked closer and smiled, though a bit awkwardly. She patted the space next to her on the bed.

Kaelan didn’t hesitate. He climbed on and lay beside her, his movements careful but calm. For a while, silence filled the room.

"How are you feeling?" Ruby asked quietly, turning her head to look at him.

"Well, much better than before," he said, smiling back. His blue eyes reflected the warm lamplight.

He turned his gaze to the ceiling, his tone soft. "Do you know?"

"Hmm?" Ruby hummed, curious.

"When I was in the coma, I saw a beautiful dream," he said, his lips curving into a faint smile that reached his eyes.

Ruby’s eyes widened slightly. "Oh? What kind of dream?" she asked gently. She had always wondered what it was like for someone lost between life and death.

"Well," Kaelan began slowly, "it was bright. Everything around me was light and soft. I felt weightless, like I was floating. There was no pain, no worry—just peace. I didn’t want to wake up."

Ruby listened quietly, her heart tightening at his words.

"I met a lot of people there," he continued softly. "Their faces... I couldn’t recognize them, but they didn’t feel like strangers. They asked me if I wanted anything." He paused, closing his eyes for a moment as if seeing it again.

"I said I wanted peace," Kaelan continued softly, his voice calm and distant, as if he could still see that place behind his eyelids. "Then they took me somewhere—a big open space filled with white and light yellow clouds. It was warm, quiet, and everything around me glowed softly. I stayed there for a while. It felt endless, but peaceful."

Ruby listened quietly, her hands resting still on her lap, afraid that even breathing too loud would break his words.

Kaelan’s gaze stayed fixed on the ceiling, his tone even lower now. "And then I heard a voice. It wasn’t anyone I knew. It was calm but firm. It said, ’Wake up. It’s not your time yet. Go back.’"

He exhaled slowly, his eyes glimmering faintly under the lamplight. "I didn’t want to at first. It felt too peaceful there. But then everything around me started fading, and before I knew it, I was opening my eyes in the hospital."

Ruby’s throat tightened as she looked at him. "Maybe that voice was sent to bring you back," she whispered.

Kaelan smiled.

Ruby looked at him too, her lips curving into a soft, warm smile. The awkwardness between them faded, replaced by a quiet comfort.

"Get some rest," she said gently.

He nodded, closing his eyes. "Goodnight, Ruby."

"Goodnight, Kaelan," she whispered back, turning off the lamp.
