Chapter 16 Zhou Lingyan vs. Bei Weiwei
Chapter 16 Zhou Lingyan vs. Bei Weiwei
Chen Bo laughed: "What else can I do? I'm homeless now, I can't exactly sleep on the streets. I have no income for the time being, and I don't have much money in my bank account. Sooner or later I'll run out of money, so I have to save wherever I can."
"You can..." Bei Weiwei paused halfway through her sentence, her voice becoming much softer and more tentative as she spoke again, "You can come find me. I have an apartment in the city center, which I don't usually live in. It's close to everywhere. Wouldn't it be better for you to live there than at Lingyan's place? At least... at least you won't have to face Yueqing's house every day and be reminded of her painful memories."
Goodness, that's a pretty obvious hint.
Chen Bo clicked his tongue inwardly, but maintained his innocent tone: "I'm so sorry to trouble you."
"No trouble at all!" Bei Weiwei immediately replied, her tone becoming cheerful. "The house's just sitting empty anyway, your presence will bring some life to it. Besides, you're Yueqing's boyfriend... oh no, you're my friend. If a friend's in trouble, what's wrong with me helping out?"
She added, "And there are recording studios near me. If you need to make music, I know a few professional producers I can introduce you to."
The service was absolutely impeccable.
"Thank you," Chen Bo said. "But I'm already staying at Lingyan's place, and it's fully equipped, so I won't be moving out for now."
There was a few seconds of silence on the other end of the phone.
When she spoke again, Bei Weiwei's tone was clearly tinged with disappointment: "I see... alright then. But Chen Bo, remember, if you're not comfortable here, or if that girl Lingyan bullies you, just tell me and I'll arrange a place for you."
"Okay, definitely," Chen Bo replied.
After hanging up the phone, he looked up and found Zhou Lingyan leaning against the control panel with her arms crossed, looking at him with a half-smile.
"Oh, a call from Miss Bei?" She raised an eyebrow. "What, is she trying to pick you up too?"
Chen Bo shrugged: "That person genuinely cares about their friends, unlike some others."
"Concerned?" Zhou Lingyan scoffed. "Come on, I saw through Bei Weiwei's intentions a long time ago. Before, when you were Yueqing's boyfriend, she could at least pretend, but now that you're single again, she's seizing the opportunity, isn't she?"
Chen Bo thought to himself, "These five of you are just fake best friends, aren't you?"
Zhou Lingyan walked up to Chen Bo, leaned close to his ear, and whispered, "Let me tell you a little secret, Bei Weiwei is the most looks-obsessed of the four of us. Not only are you handsome, but your face is also exactly her type. Every time she came to Yue Qing's house before, she looked at you like she wanted to eat you alive. Do you think I didn't notice?"
Chen Bo touched his face: "Is it really that exaggerated?"
"It's even more outrageous than that." Zhou Lingyan straightened up, her tone suddenly turning sour. "But speaking of which, you're quite charming. It's only been a day since the breakup, and your ex-girlfriend's arch-nemesis has taken you in, and your ex-girlfriend's best friend also wants to take you on. Teacher Chen, your market value is on the rise."
Just as Chen Bo was about to say something, his phone vibrated again.
It was another message from Bei Weiwei: "By the way, are you at Lingyan's house now? I'll come and see you, I don't have anything to do today."
Chen Bo: "..."
This young lady is incredibly proactive!
He turned his phone screen towards Zhou Lingyan: "She said she's coming over."
Zhou Lingyan glanced at it and smiled, "Come on, let me see how much she cares about you."
Bei Weiwei arrived in less than an hour.
Chen Bo was tuning his guitar in the recording studio when Zhou Lingyan went up to open the door first.
As soon as the door opened, Bei Weiwei stood there, carrying two exquisite paper bags. She wore a light pink Chanel-style suit, her long hair was slightly curled, and her makeup was exquisite. She looked both sweet and elegant.
"Lingyan!" she greeted with a smile, but her eyes involuntarily glanced into the house. "I came to see Chen Bo and brought some food with me."
Zhou Lingyan stepped aside to let her in, a smirk playing on her lips. "Oh, how thoughtful of you, bringing food. But Weiwei, aren't you going to work? I remember you had a meeting today?"
Bei Weiwei remained unfazed: "I declined; my friend's matter is more important."
As she spoke, her gaze was already fixed on Chen Bo, who was coming up from the basement.
Chen Bo wore a simple white T-shirt and black casual pants today. His hair was a little messy, but it added to his casual and handsome look.
He was holding a guitar in his hand, looking both relaxed and focused.
Bevy's eyes lit up noticeably.
"Chen Bo!" She walked quickly over and looked him up and down. "Are you alright? You look a little tired. Didn't you get enough rest?"
Chen Bo thought to himself, "I fought until three or four in the morning last night, no wonder I couldn't get a good rest."
But he said, "It's alright, I'm working on a song."
Bei Weiwei placed the paper bag she was carrying on the coffee table: "I brought you some tonics, and also some desserts from that famous dessert shop in the east of the city. Try them."
As she spoke, she naturally reached out to take Chen Bo's hand: "Come on, sit down and talk, don't stand."
Her movements and tone were so familiar, as if she were the lady of the house.
Zhou Lingyan leaned against the wall, arms crossed, watching with great interest.
Chen Bo was pulled to sit down on the sofa by Bei Weiwei, who sat right next to him, almost touching him.
"Chen Bo, are you really not considering moving in with me?" Bei Weiwei looked at him sincerely. "My place is really more convenient than here, and... and I live alone, I don't have any family, so it won't be awkward for you to move in."
That's practically saying "We can live together."
Before Chen Bo could speak, Zhou Lingyan interrupted, "Weiwei, isn't that a bit unfair? I picked her up, and you're trying to steal her away?"
Bei Weiwei turned to look at Zhou Lingyan, her smile unchanged, but her eyes held a hint of competition: "Lingyan, you can't say that. Chen Bo is a free man; it's his freedom to live wherever he wants. Besides, didn't you bring him back just to spite Yueqing? That's not fair to Chen Bo."
"Oh, so you're standing up for Chen Bo now?" Zhou Lingyan walked over, sat down on the single sofa, crossed her legs, and as she lifted her foot, a flash of red appeared.
"How am I being unfair to Chen Bo? I give him the best room, provide him with the best facilities, and even provide him with food and drink. Isn't that good enough?" Zhou Lingyan said dissatisfiedly.
"It's good, but the motives aren't pure," Bei Weiwei said. "Chen Bo needs to focus on preparing for the competition right now. Living here and facing Yueqing's house every day, how can he be in a good mood? My place is quiet and suitable for his creative work."
The two women exchanged barbs, their words sharp and pointed, a subtle tension hanging in the air.
Chen Bo sat in the middle, looking left and right, and suddenly felt that the scene was a bit ridiculous.
He cleared his throat: "Um... ladies, may I say something?"
Bei Weiwei and Zhou Lingyan looked at him at the same time.
